Graduation Jellycat Bunny Emergency

Piknik · 21/07/2026 20:01

I don't have TikTok, I don't know anything about the importance of Jellycats - I am out of the loop on these sorts of trends and think all a bit sillly and a con but DS has just told me that all DDs friends will have the new Graduaction Jellycat Bunny and DD (who loves stuff like this) will be really sad if she doesn't.

So putting aside my thoughts on the matter I have been trying to find one and they are sold out everywhere. The ones on Ebay are cheaper than the real thing so clearly fake. Can anyone help me? To be fair, DD doesn't ask for much and there is no big 'gift' coming her way so I'd really like to find one if there is any chance.

ANY ideas, suggestions, links really welcome. She graduates on Friday..... yikes.

Jellycats are massively popular at the moment on Insta and TikTok etc. They're the latest must-have collectables - there's been reporting on it on the BBC etc. It's the same as any craze - people want them because they're popular, regardless of what they actually are. It'll be the next thing in due course, and people who were clamouring for a Jellycat will want something else.

I have seen the craze- my primary aged daughter loves them. But I’d be alarmed if she wanted to hold one on stage while receiving her degree certificate like a pp has seen happen or would feel really sad she didn’t have the same cuddly toy as her friends as a fully grown adult in her twenties.

husbandcallsmepickle · 23/07/2026 10:33

They're not really "the latest craze" as they've been around for years. We received several as gifts when DS was born 5.5years ago

Christmasbear1 · 23/07/2026 10:35

The fake ones are just as good as the real ones. If it doesn't come in time I would just buy a fake one to be on the safe side.

Yeah this. Did the daughter actually say she wants one?! It seems like an odd trend for adults in their twenties?! I thought they were mainly for primary aged kids. I wouldn't buy something like this for a adult. It seems childish and cringe.

But it's a status symbol - for the vast majority of teens or young adults, they're not going to be cuddling them like a ten-year-old would. It doesn't matter what the object is - these young people are showing that they have the ability and disposable income to be able to secure a desired, limited, commodity. It's no different to any other status symbol, it doesn't have to be usable or age-appropriate. As a cultural phenomenon, it's like those pointless tiny posh handbags.

Typical Mumsnet on a thread where someone is asking where to find something.

Lots of helpful answers, then loads of snide, unpleasant comments from people who clearly have no idea outside of their own lives.

I hope you find one, OP.

PartoftheBand · 22/07/2026 18:27

What a nasty and unnecessary post. What on earth is the problem with women styling their hair or wearing make up at their graduation?

I had to check whether this was in AIBU as so many of the comments were getting sneery, but this is, as you say, nasty. Imagine being an older woman who feels the need to deride women in their early 20s for how they choose to wear their hair, or for God forbid, wearing make-up.

Piknik · 23/07/2026 11:50

Ok to answer questions.

It is University Graduation. She is an intelligent, resilient young adult graduating with a First in a science.

She still wants the fucking bunny

I think it's ridiculous (as I have stated upthread), and a bit of a scam, but as I've also said, she doesn't ask for much and she really wanted this for whatever reason. She is quite sentimental (keeps every ticket/note/pressed flower in a scrap book) so it sort of aligns with her personality to want to one.

Be sneery if you want, I get it, but honestly - sometimes your DDs wishes aren't logical and you sitll want to fulfill if you can.

Fingers crossed my DPD man gets here today (I will let you all know). Thanks for all the suggestions.

Absolutely - the nastiness is off the scale and so uncalled for.

some people like different things and it’s possible to be perfectly intelligent and fancy having a cuddly toy, it’s really not hard to understand.

I hope the bunny arrives in time. Congratulations to your DD and hope she has a fantastic graduation day, with or without it! My DD is 19 and I've also bought her a couple of Jellycat toys in the last couple of years as they're a "thing", popular online, she likes them and thinks they're cute in a slightly ironic, light hearted way. She's still a bright, competent and functioning adult. The negativity and bitchiness on here is ludicrous, and says a lot more about the posters than the OP's DD, about something that, as the kids say, is really not that deep.

Piknik · 23/07/2026 13:21

Bunny has arrived!!!! 🎉 Thank you to everyone who linked me to UTILITY.

DD was ridiculously happy as she didn't think I'd ordered one (which, as we all know, is true!). It won't be sitting on a shelf or being posed on TikTok for those who said that it was a status symbol, she has given Bunny a big cuddle, told her she is on her way to Manchester and put her in her overnight bag.

Honestly the spiteful comments on here are next level:

"But I’d be alarmed if she wanted to hold one on stage while receiving her degree certificate "

Alarmed? Really?

"It does go some way to explaining why graduates are the way they are"

WTF does that even mean?

DD has worked in pubs, bars and all sorts since she was 15. She is one of the smartest, most resilient and determined people I know, and has just earned a First Class science degree. How you can judge her for wanting a particular soft toy is wild.

But judge away because we don't care. We have Bunny and we are going to watch our DD make us very proud tomorrow.

Thank you again to all the LOVELY people who helped me track one down.

Jellycat bouquets are much better than real bouquets.

Jellycats have been around for at least twenty years. The "Amuseable" range has just sent their popularity through the roof.

aliasfrog · 23/07/2026 14:00

Op I think it's lovely you bought this for her. I'm 34 and bought myself a jellycat recently because I love them. Congrats to her on her graduation!

Well, I am similar to all the things yo mentioned about your daughter, and I'm much older than her, and I LOVE my Jellycat bunnies! They just SO cute!

I don't know why you think it's a scam. Why would you think that? They're a legitimate company, you pay money and you get a product in return. I can't work out what's scammy about that. In addition, they're known for producing very high-quality and especially adorable soft toys. No scam, just lots of people enjoying a really good product.

Some people on here really need a Jellycat bunny in their lives!

CrazyMidget · 23/07/2026 14:48

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 22/07/2026 10:53

Agreed, it's a cute gift and keepsake. But not to carry on graduation day.

I'd be surprised if people were walking around with the rabbits - I thought it was a graduation gift like any other, i.e. to mark the occasion, not necessarily to take with you on the day.

Also, you might lose it.

Or it might run off. 😆

Sartre · 22/07/2026 08:53

You’d be surprised, this generation can be pretty immature and I say this as an academic. Many uni’s sell their own line of graduation bears, ours does.

Liking soft toys doesn't mean you're immature. It means you're in touch with the playful, fun side of life. I have a lot of soft toys, and I'm way more mature than I'd like.

Congrats to your dd, and on everything coming together! What a lovely ds you have, too, for alerting you to the fact that his sister wanted a bunny! Enjoy the graduation!

I collect Steiff bears and have some Jellycats too - I don’t consider them to be immature. Having said that I wouldn’t be walking around with one on my graduation day. I did, of course get the Uni Graduation bear but he was in my bag.

Exactly the same here on all counts.

I was 38 when I asked my late mum to get me a Jellycat bunny for Christmas. 😆

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 22/07/2026 11:32

Adults walking on stage clutching a stuffed bunny? Wow, this has really surprised me. It’s a cute token gift but bizarre if 21 year olds are actually going to on the stage holding them like small children would

Edited

Well, Sebastian Flyte in Brideshead Revisited walked around with a teddy.

I bought myself a giant cuddly capybara the last time I went to our local zoo / farm and I'm 46. Everyone who sees it is jealous.

He's called Barry and he lives on the landing. Sometimes he sits at the dining table.

Let people have happiness.

"Everyone who sees it is jealous." 🤣 It's sweet how well you think of Barry!

My animals don't sit at the dining table, but they do like a bit of TV....

CrazyMidget · 23/07/2026 15:01

The first time I knew about Jellycat toys was on Christmas Day 2010, when I went to church and the minister used one to illustrate his sermon! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 It wasn't a rabbit, I think it was a large dog that he referred to as Jellycat. I wish I could remember what the sermon was about, but it involved Jellycat, LMAO!

MadameEtourdie · 23/07/2026 15:03

I’m so pleased she received it. A happy ending!

Fantastic, OP! I'm so glad your bunny made it.

You're getting attached to it already..."we don't care. We have Bunny.." 🤣🤣🤣🤣

All the people saying that people just want one because they're popular are wrong. The JB bunny is a fantastic design - you have to hold one to know - and their fur is especially soft. And they're far cuter than the majority of rabbits out there.

MrsCarson · 23/07/2026 15:42

To be honest if I'd known that those Jellycat grad bunnies existed I'd have bought one for my Dd (Also science grad) She had her ceremony a week ago. Thank goodness she hadn't seen them. They are very cute. She made do with a graduation Duckie and flowers.
