Count Binface seems to be winning the campaign against Farage

Robert Jenrick has gone after Count Binface — apparently Farage is "used to people who've got robotic voices and a head full of rubbish."
An actual attack line. Workshopped, presumably, in a meeting. Against a bin.
The finance site that endorsed the bin has now "fact-checked" the attack: "TRUE, AND FATAL TO THE ATTACKER. The Count's head is full of rubbish, and it is the only head in this contest whose contents are fully declared."

They also fact-checked the claim that the bin is an "establishment plant" (a Labour donor offered to fund him): "Our desk attempted to draw a diagram of the establishment. It came out as a circle with a handle on top. We have filed it as a lid."
Binface's actual response to all of it: "Nigel Farage says he wants the people versus the establishment. So be it. Leave him to me."
I'm sorry, but the bin is winning this campaign on every level.

If I lived in Clacton (I don't, though I am in Essex) then Count Binface would have my vote.

The guy under the bin is actually a very intelligent, well-informed man. And he has said that if he’s voted in, he will take it seriously and do a proper job.

In every election he’s stood, he’s actually made a point of mentioning local issues eg/lights down a road that need to be properly re-phased. So in among his jokes, you can see he has actually researched the local area.

Farage has been MIA since been appointed as an MP. I hope those who voted for him before can clearly see now what a weasly man he is. This whole by-election is a joke and nothing more than an attempt to distract from his corruption.

Sadly I’m not from Clacton but I really really hope the folk that live there vote for the Count. I think they’ll get a proper MP who isn’t scared to stand up for them, and will be properly present.

Yes, given the candidates, I would vote for Binface. An intelligent guy who says he will do the job properly in the unlikely situation he gets it.

I also think it would lead to increased world wide interest in Clacton - not to be dismissed by a tourist town!

Even though it would hilarious and brilliant, he won’t win I think because the people of Clacton, at least the vox pops I've seen are focused on one topic only (the boats) and don't care about anything else as long as non whites are kept out. Farage will never fix potholes but he says all the right things about brown immigrants and that's all that matters. I hope everyone in clacton that didn't vote for farage bands together to get him out but I know thats wishful thinking.

I agree but the thing is what we're seeing IS the humiliation for Farage, even if he "wins" (slow hand clap for beating a bin).

Jon Harvey may well be smart and well-informed but he won't be breaking character. This isn't about Binface being secretly good after all. This is about Farage having to spend the summer fighting with a man pretending to be a bin alien.

I really, really hope Binface wins. And I am delighted that Farage's ridiculous decision to resign and re-stand has massively backfired on him.

I don't live in Clacton, but I've lived somewhere similar, the sort of place that gets mentioned only in terms of "named worst place to live in X" or for it being an example of working class disillusionment/Brexit. And there are serious issues with deprivation etc but it's also kind of sad because a lot of the people there are funny, intelligent, fun people to be around (regardless of voting intention) and there's good things about the place as well as smaller problems that never really get a look in. It's actually a nice place to visit for lots of reasons but all it gets are the YouTubers doing poverty safari type things. The good stuff never gets talked about

So, although it's a farce that the by-election is happening at all, Count Binface being such a huge presence is at least an opportunity to draw attention to the town with a very British, very English sense of humour (that's actually really unique) and isn't about relentless negativity. I agree if he won it could actually be good for tourism/business as it publicises the town in a positive way. Unfortunately I think Farage is still likely to win but at least the Count running gives an opportunity to talk about local quirks and I hope he does. If it was my home town, I would see Count Binfaces involvement as a good thing but of course it's not my town it's the people of Clactons.

Whilst this is true - Farage didn't actually do the job of voting in parliament, out of 650 MPs he's ranked just over 600th in terms of voting participation. He's even the worst of the Reform MPs by that measure.

Local councils don't have anything to do with immigration or asylum or boats, but Reform still made it a mainstay of the local election campaign and their supporters presumably voted for them on that basis.

To try to be even handed - it's equally daft that the Greens made Palestine a feature of some of their local election campaigning given that local authorities have no control over foreign policy or defence.

MPs are also supposed to take an actual interest in their constituency, and support constituents and businesses on local issues. That includes trying to get councils to maintain unmaintained pothole-ridden roads.

They are supposed to hold advice surgeries in their constituency so that constituents can speak to them. When was the last time Farage did that?
