Good Morning Everyone! What are you up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, alone, in my conservatory spot. One of the girls has been up already but seems to have gone back to bed 🤷‍♀️.

The washer's on with the first of three loads, and I've had a quick tidy round - still looks like a bit of a bomb site so we'll tackle the rest together when the girls get up.

Plan for today is to put away a couple of dd1's suitcases of uni stuff & get her to clear out either a box or drawer or something since her moving boxes are still packed 🙄. I want to make a small gift for the children in my class too - I'll rope both girls in to help with this! And find a suitable small something for the supply I've been working with for the past 3 months - I don't know her very well so finding it difficult to think of something.

Dd2 has summer work for college she's working through. She's decided one task a day should mean it's all done before she starts, so she'll do something for that later on.

Dd1 has been stalking gig tickets on Ticketmaster resale for MCR tonight, and Wolf Alice tomorrow - so far she's bought none...she will probably have one or the other by this afternoon. I don't think I can justify going this time - I need to buy some birthday gifts, book a weekend in London with dd2, and carry on decorating the house upstairs 😥.

Tea tonight is lemon & herb chicken, salad and wedges - dd2's cooking. I'll have a glass or two of something while we eat 🍷.

What about all of you? 🙂

Morning morning

just thinking about putting coffee on
need to wake eldest (the joy) to do some college work

then I am slowly prepping food for this evening because there is a Very Important Football Game on that at least we don’t have to set up air beds for! later

making herb crust salmon with paprika new potatoes and salad

and a trifle, that’s partly done

oh and need to clear hosepipe because we are now under a ban so will spend forever watering plants

LasVegass · 11/07/2026 09:18

Nothing more exciting than food shop and housework 😀

Good morning!

user1469565563 · 11/07/2026 09:21

I have just watered the plants. A hosepipe ban is coming in next week, eek! Just cleaning. Thinking of putting the tent up in the garden. The grass has had it anyway!

lucysmam · 11/07/2026 09:36

@frozendaisy your tea sounds nice - I've never been keen on salmon, maybe I should try again!

I should move & water my plants really 🤔

Morning all and @lucysmam! Fairly busy day here as DP is working, and as soon as he finishes we’re driving over to my in-laws’ for a couple of nights before heading on to a wedding next week. DP is in the wedding so we’ve a lot of extra stuff to take with us, not to mention our own packing which I’ve not even started yet!! (Though I have made a comprehensive list so hoping it won’t take too long).

I need to try on a couple of dresses to make sure I’ve got suitable options for both the rehearsal and the wedding, and need to run into town for some last minute supplies. House is a tip so want to clean up before we leave too. And then hopefully we’ll arrive at my in-laws just in time for kick off for the England match. I’m tired already just thinking about it!

Kim82 · 11/07/2026 09:59

Good morning everyone, it’s an absolutely beautiful day here, we have all the windows and doors open and there’s a lovely breeze going through the house. Dh is at work, dd11 is away with her friend for the weekend, dd18 is in bed no doubt hungover as she went to a party last night and dsis and BIL are on the sofa watching the rugby. They have pulled out of their original house purchase but had an offer accepted on a new one last week which they’re excited about (they’re staying with us until the purchase goes though as they had to move out of theirs so the sale didn’t fall through!).

I was up before 7 so have done plenty already, downstairs is clean, 3rd load of washing is in the machine, bathroom is clean and I’m showered and dressed. The plan for the rest of the day is to take dsis and BIL to the airport around lunchtime as they’re off to Greece for a week, go and do the weekly shop at Tesco on the way back - I usually get it delivered but have had so much on I totally forgot and there were no slots left. I’m picking up some food for my brother too as he’s been made redundant and only has £400 per month to live on at the moment which is ridiculous! I’ll drop it off at his house and then come home, put the shopping away and clean the rest of the upstairs. I’m already shattered after a busy week at work but needs must.

Tea tonight is some sort of bbq meat with potato salad and actual salad then this evening me, dh and dd18 are off to the pub to watch the football. We’ve booked a table at a decent pub for us and some of mine and dh’s friends as I don’t fancy having to stand up all evening in this heat!

It’s the only easily available oily fish the everyone agrees on!

HahahaHaaland · 11/07/2026 10:06

Morning! Hard to think about anything other than the game tonight but had a surprisingly chilly dog walk this morning. 23c felt like a layer of frost on my skin despite wearing a sweater, what has climate change done to me?!

Have a train to catch later for a big family football watching sleepover party and in the meantime I will keep working on a Scriabin piece I’m learning 🎹 and reading a sad book to balance the excitement.

soupmaker · 11/07/2026 10:08

I’ve been up for a couple of hours pottering and had a lovely scrambled egg, mushroom and avocado on toast breakfast. DD2 been down and had some breakfast but now disappeared back into her room. DD1 and her BF still snoozing and DH in bed as he came off a night shift. Just need to clear up the kitchen and put a dark wash on house work wise today. Listening to the radio and waiting for our lovely neighbour to pop round to sort out a window as a homer. Then, long run this afternoon with or without DH and starting to get the piles organised for packing for going away to Spain on Monday. Nails already sorted, more suncreen purchased, and all the ironing done, so we’re ahead of where we usually are!

Simonjt · 11/07/2026 10:10

Good morning all, we’re having a lazy day as we’re still recovering from our holiday, the kids are almost back on normal time.

Papa is in London for a long weekend as an early birthday treat, he doesn’t know yet but he’s off to see MCR tonight, I’ve been a good husband and sent ahead his outfit to his friends.

Have a great saturday everyone!

Simonjt · 11/07/2026 10:14

Get the tickets @lucysmam!

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 11/07/2026 10:18

Just had my first cuppa in the sunshine accompanied by various hot cats and dogs. DH still in bed as he’s nights tonight and I’ve picked up a bank shift for this afternoon. I need to run the hoover around but might do it when I come home from work.
I do love these threads!

Rainbow1235 · 11/07/2026 10:25

Good morning lucysmam and to u all . I’m having a very chilled day today as this heat is way too much for me so it will be a day sat in garden with my new book once I’ve cleaned thru .have a great and safe day all 🫶

Tiddlywinks63 · 11/07/2026 10:26

Good morning @lucysmam and followers, I’ve been up since 5.30, couldn’t sleep.
I’ve hung out the washing, tidied the kitchen, bathroom and cleaned up generally.
I took bigger dog out, DH took tiddler out very early, so they’re all snoozing.
I watered the pots etc, everything is drying out so quickly, picked some courgettes and gave a few to my new neighbours (who are lovely!)
I have just started a new embroidery, hopefully it will go well, I can’t sit and do nothing, I have poor concentration for reading and television bores me 🙄
I saw the lung surgeon this week, pre-op coming up then lobectomy mid-August. To be honest I’m getting a bit scared now…..
All will be well, all will be fine I’m sure.
Have a lovely weekend x

Yamadori · 11/07/2026 10:27

I'm sitting here wondering how the hell I'm going to water 200+ bonsai trees twice a day now we've got a hosepipe ban that came in after midnight last night.

You can't just use a watering can with a rose from above, because a lot of them are deciduous and the leaves act like an umbrella. The water runs straight off. You need to be able to direct the flow up and under the foliage so it actually reaches the pot.

I've got a brilliant long-handled directional hose attachment, and watering them with that uses only about a quarter of the water that using a watering can does. In 20 minutes you could do the whole lot with practically no wastage. I can't just stop watering them, the pots are small, dry out in a flash and the trees would be stone dead in less than 24 hours. Some of them are old and really quite valuable.

Before I got it the hose, we were using anything up to 30 large watering cans every time, most of which ended up on the ground around the trees and not in their pots, and would take the best part of an hour each time. I physically can't cope with doing that in hot sunshine twice a day at my age. DH offers to do it, but he's crap at it and always misses some out.

lucysmam · 11/07/2026 10:31

@Simonjt epic gift there, I hope your DH has an amazing evening 🎶.

Good morning lucysmam and others. I woke up to fine rain and mist and its significantly cooler, thank goodness. I can't cope with heat anymore. I've had 2 coffees, 2 slices of toast and did an Aldi shop. Food is all put away and I've had a cuppa and a scone. Shortly I will strip the bed and get a washing done. Then I will remove my new hoover from its box and charge it ready to use later. Im not sure what dinner will be. I'll have salad with something, I think. Enjoy your day all

Alwaystired23 · 11/07/2026 10:32

I'm another one who loves these threads! Good morning all! I'm sitting in the garden in the shade, need to get showered but I might wait for the washing to finish first. Dh has gone to look at a new car (4 hour drive away 🙄). Ds1 is going kayaking so I need to drop him off, and ds 2 will come with me in the hope to buy some new lego.

I'm not really in to football (and I'm Welsh, so its not really a big thing where I live, in a small Welsh village), but I hope England do well today and if you are watching the football hope you have a great time!!!

lucysmam · 11/07/2026 10:34

You sound absolutely lovely and anyone would be lucky to have you as their sister ❤️ I'm gonna guess you're the eldest? Big sister vibes 🤣🌸

@Yamadori that sounds quite stressful! I hope you figure something out for your trees.

Thank you xx

We don't have much shade in our garden, and all of it is already occupied. I've pushed a lot of the trees in sun close together so they shade each other, but that just makes it harder to water them because you can't see the pots you're aiming at unless you know where to aim. Which is why DH often misses some. I was stumbling about in the dark with the hose and a torch at 11.30 last night!!

Anglian Water only announced it yesterday afternoon, so I've had no time at all to plan for it. Some of my friends have drip watering systems on a timer for their trees, and those are allowed. I just wish that specialist high-needs valuable plant collections were on their list of exemptions.🙁

Aww, thank you, that’s so lovely but I 100% know they’d do the same for me - my sister actually did and let me and the kids move in with her for 7 weeks about 9 years ago when I was waiting for my house purchase to go through. I’m just in a position to help them at the moment so it’s my turn to step up.

And no, I’m not the oldest, I’m number 3 out of 4 but I am admittedly the most organised! 😂

Morning all,

Up and about early and into the supermarket for just after 7:30. Pleased to find our favourite Bisto Best gravy on yellow sticker. Only the small jars, but £1.88 each, which is a huge saving. Got an April '27 date on, so got 5 jars, and that'll see us through to the end of the year and beyond. We're all massive gravy lovers in this house.
Last 'twixmas, they had the turkey gravy reduced for 50p a tub. I got 3 of those back then, and we're just coming to the end of them now.

Home to sit in the garden with a coffee for an hour. Cooler out there than inside, and a pleasant breeze.

Tomorrow I start a pretty intense 6-week busy season at work. Long hours and physically quite a lot. So today I'd like to get on top of a few housey bits that need doing. There's about 3 loads of washing to put away for a start!
I was away overnight Thursday/Friday, and still need to properly unpack my overnight bag from that, and put it away.
