I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, alone, in my conservatory spot. One of the girls has been up already but seems to have gone back to bed 🤷‍♀️.

The washer's on with the first of three loads, and I've had a quick tidy round - still looks like a bit of a bomb site so we'll tackle the rest together when the girls get up.

Plan for today is to put away a couple of dd1's suitcases of uni stuff & get her to clear out either a box or drawer or something since her moving boxes are still packed 🙄. I want to make a small gift for the children in my class too - I'll rope both girls in to help with this! And find a suitable small something for the supply I've been working with for the past 3 months - I don't know her very well so finding it difficult to think of something.

Dd2 has summer work for college she's working through. She's decided one task a day should mean it's all done before she starts, so she'll do something for that later on.

Dd1 has been stalking gig tickets on Ticketmaster resale for MCR tonight, and Wolf Alice tomorrow - so far she's bought none...she will probably have one or the other by this afternoon. I don't think I can justify going this time - I need to buy some birthday gifts, book a weekend in London with dd2, and carry on decorating the house upstairs 😥.

Tea tonight is lemon & herb chicken, salad and wedges - dd2's cooking. I'll have a glass or two of something while we eat 🍷.

What about all of you? 🙂

Morning all. DH and I have had a lovely week off while DS is on holiday.
We have eaten in lovely restaurants, stayed away a couple of nights, paddleboarded and chilled.
I think we need to retire 😂
Having a day at home today, and going to the theatre tonight. I'm still in my dressing gown!
We're eating in the theatre restaurant so no need to even think about tea.

I’ve just had a late breakfast of some home made healthy banana bread ( made with oats instead of flour and honey to sweeten it) and a black coffee and now I’m lying on my bed with the fan on. I put an ice pack on my knee while I was eating and have now transferred it to my back in an attempt to be able to mobilise shortly. I had my second knee replacement surgery 9 weeks ago, just 5 months after my first and my knee was very stiff this morning after the hot night. My back pain is down to my hips trying to realign to my new gait now that both my knees face forward - the pain is excruciating and it’s hard to weight bear.

i need to sort a few things out today, I hate a messy house and I’ve been unable to do much tidying up but I’ve had enough now and am going to put some random stuff away! I need to empty the dishwasher ( surprisingly painful due to the bending down) and place an order for my Tesco delivery tomorrow, I have no idea what I want to eat except that I don’t feel like cooking! I’ve been living on sandwiches for a couple of weeks since my back ache started so I’ll buy lots of high protein fillings and fresh fruit.

I need to do some exercises that my physio gave me last week hopefully to ease the back pain but also focus of those to increase the range of movement in my new knee, I’ve been neglecting them because most involve standing up which I cannot really do. I’m so glad I pushed myself to water all my patio pots last night, I have about 15 large ones with bushes in and a couple of troughs with bedding plants so a lot of work in this hot weather and I’ve been neglecting them a little but I dosed up on painkillers and hobbled around once it was going dark.

I plan to sit outside in the shade after my housework under my new glass verandah and listen to an audio book while doing some crochet. I’ve been making simple teddies, called trauma teddies as some police, fire and ambulance crews carry them to give to upset children. Mine are going with a friend to an orphanage in Sierra Leone where she volunteers each year, I’ve made 20 so far while recuperating from my surgeries and have another 6 ready to stuff.

Thats about all I’ll get through today, I’m so looking forward to sorting out my back pain so I can start enjoying life with my two new knees!

Our youngest DD is here with her dog - we went out for a walk at 8am so are now sat in a lovely shade/breeze on the patio with a coffee. 2 loads of washing are out on the line, beds are made and our cleaner comes on a Friday so the house is tidy/clean. After a dreadful week of no sleep, my plans are to do as little as possible for the rest of the day.

Taytocrisps · 11/07/2026 11:09

Morning @lucysmam hope you have a lovely weekend.

DD has gone to work. I'm happy to report that she now has her own car, so I didn't have to get up and drop her to work. However, she forgot that she was due in at 9, and only woke when her boss rang her to see where she was. Just as well I was awake, because I'd have had to get up anyway, to move my car, so she could get her car out of the driveway.

DCats have been fed and are having their post-breakfast snooze. It's due to be 25 degrees today, so I'll keep them in until evening. One of them doesn't cope well with the heat. I guess they can't unzip their fur coats. DCat1 is curled up beside me and DCat2 has just come over to join us.

DD's boyfriend is still here - he's in bed. He stays with me Monday - Friday, because he's doing an internship nearby. He goes home at weekends, so I'd imagine he'll head home after he has breakfast.

A friend is visiting a nearby town for the day, so I'm going to jump in the shower and drive in and meet her. It's a pity it's so hot, because there are lots of lovely walks around the castle and river. But we won't be walking anywhere in this heat. She said she'll have to come back another time, when it's not so hot Grin. A pity she's not staying tonight - she could do the walks when it cools down a bit.

Good Morning all, sat in the courtyard under a big umbrella, we have no shade at all as the entire garden is south facing without trees. There is a nice breeze though.
DH is at work today, have done two loads of washing, including the sheets. Both dry and folded and put away. Havnt remade tge beds as I cant do them on my own. DH stripped them before he went to work he will redo them when he gets in.
No breakfast as intermittent fasting but chicken salad for lunch with melon to follow.
Tea will be Fajitas about 7 when it cools down.
Neighbours music is blaring out. Its a teenager, it only happens when parents are out. Consquently its all summer when parents are at work. Its usually Morrisory or the Cure which is dire but this morning its The Cranberries which I quite like. What a teenager (think he must be at Uni now its been going on about 5 years) is doing listening to 80s music I dont know.
No football here although we live in the south of England as we are Scots, DH says hes supporting Norway anyway 😁

Good morning (just) @lucysmam and everyone. I wasn't on last week as we were on holiday and I was having far too good a time to remember what day of the week it was!

We just driven back from the north of the county where we went to a show at the theatre last night. It's a 1 1/2 hour journey so we stayed overnight in a hotel.

Sadly the theatre really isn't set up for decrepit fat people, with really steep steps and NO leg room at all, and it was VERY hot so we left at the interval. The hotel was even hotter with LOTS of shrieking, yelling and cackling going on in the street outside, so I'm very sleep deprived. Breakfast was very good though.

I've just been doing some Vinted admin and I have something I need to package up to send. Other than that I have NO plans at all - it's just too hot!

Good afternoon @lucysmam & everyone. Still in bed as we only got back from a flying visit to London at around 5am. DD17 & her GF saw MCR at Wembley on their final tour & were ecstatic. DH & I had a lot of fun with them - current GF could not be more different to DD’s highly toxic ex. DH is surprisingly refreshed after only a few hours sleep but will possibly crash later on. I’m going in the shower ( no hairwash) in a min. It was SO hot in London, especially on the tube. Just felt permanently sticky, although we ended up at the pub where we’d parked for the day & there was a wonderful cooling breeze. Nearly £15 for an AF cider & an AF lager mind you!! I keep getting messages from Vinted telling me to post my parcels so will pop to the shop once I’m dressed. There are a couple of parcels to collect too. Need pizzas for tea & a few bits for the week. I have to follow a special diet for a few days as I have a procedure 😢 I’ll do the dishwasher if DH hasn’t sorted it & the linen basket is full so a load can go on. I’ll probably sit in the garden later & read my book. The beaches will no doubt be packed. DD’s GF is staying over again. DH & I will watch the match but the girls aren’t interested. Go England!! ⚽️🇬🇧⚽️🇬🇧⚽️🇬🇧

JacknDiane · 11/07/2026 13:19

Im late to the thread, am working today, the shop has no air conditioning and its absolutely roasting, think we'll all pass out at this rate!

JacknDiane · 11/07/2026 13:19

Who is MCR?

Hello All

Late today. I was up early to walk the dog then met a friend for a catch up in town. Not seen each other for ages so was good.

Went to m and s and bought some food for the week. Their new chicken flatties range is proving a hit here with my extremely fussy children. I’m on my own for tea tonight so got myself a stew and dumplings. Nobody likes stew in my house so looking forward to that.

Another dog walk and now plan to relax for a bit and read my book. One of my cats has been missing for a day and a half but turned up hungry. He is a bit of a wanderer so try not to worry too much.

It’s a dull day and much cooler here in NE Scotland but I loving it. Huge relief.
I have a friend over for lunch tomorrow so some tidying needed. But that’s later mes problem.

TheIdlerReturns · 11/07/2026 16:45

Staying inside cos it's boiling. Watching Wimbledon. Chatting to DP who has had a nap and now doing a spot of diy while watching Wimbledon. Will venture into garden about 8pm for watering and a bit of planting up. Will be keeping an eye on the football.

Lndnmummy · 11/07/2026 16:50

Late to the party but a lovely day. I always wake up earlier than everyone and enjoyed a coffee in peace for an hour, with a lovely breeze through the kitchen windows (live in an apartment, no garden). Then I took my eldest to a trial for his sports. He is 14, so I take every chance I get to spend some time with him. My sister is staying with us for a week and she has taken my youngest to the science museum and to Mcdonalds. My OH is doing the food shop and some DIY and I am sure he is enjoying having the house to himself.

I'm just sat with a glass of rose at our local lovely wine bar (was meant to meet a friend but she had to cancel). Then I will pop to Sainsburys to get the last minute dinner bits for the game tonight.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 11/07/2026 16:56

Thislittlekitten did you have thunder and lightning last night? My friend who lives in Inverness said the rain was torrential

Crunchymum · 11/07/2026 18:02

Very late to the party this week, can't even remember last time I was on. Life has been quite hectic as it always is at the end of the school year (and I'm only a parent, not school staff)

Today is "cooler" so only 30c instead of 34c. I'm losing my mind with it now.

Took DC3 swimming earlier, that was not fun (was like unwillingly doing hot yoga) and then ran some errands - took library books back, posted some Vinted packages and had a run around the park before it got too hot.

DC1 took DC2 to an early party (it was a 6 hour party - but there was travel to the destination) and DC1 then went off to a friends.

We had an afternoon under the fans and I've just collected DC2 who is utterly exhausted after a day at the water park (inflatables / canoeing etc, excellent choice for the weather although was booked long before the heatwave). DC2 had pizza and cake at the water park, DC1 is having pizza with his mates so I'm thinking I may just bung a few Pizza Express pizza's in for DP and I later? It seems to be the theme.

DC3 is having a chilli from the freezer soon and is just drying after a shower.

Not sure how I'm going to stay awake for the game later, I'm so tired. Haven't slept properly for weeks due to the heat. Although it's still awfully hot, so I won't sleep tonight either.

Hoping for an England win but feeling a bit nervy. Haarland plays against so many of our lads, hope it doesn't give him the edge.

Echobelly · 11/07/2026 18:11

I was desperate to get out of the house where I have been WFH last 2 days and sweating my face off. Then realised I need to buy a bunch of boring stuff like socks and pants and a hat for DS going on 2-week residential in a fortnight's time and rather than buying online we can go to Brent Cross and enjoy some air con (and bubble tea) while we're at it. Mission was accomplished - once it cools down a bit after dinner, DH and I will go for walk on Hamsptead Heath with any kid who fancies joining us.

Taytocrisps · 11/07/2026 18:22

@Crunchymum 34 degrees! Wow! And I'm finding it hard to cope with 25 degrees ......

Yep it's been abysmal. Although not quite as awful as two weeks ago.

It cools down next week to high 20's 😫

Thislittlekitten · 11/07/2026 19:52

@LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand No we didn’t have any. I’d have loved that!! That’s a bit further north than where I am.

JoyceTempleSavagehere · 12/07/2026 03:45

Kim82 · 11/07/2026 10:53

Aww, thank you, that’s so lovely but I 100% know they’d do the same for me - my sister actually did and let me and the kids move in with her for 7 weeks about 9 years ago when I was waiting for my house purchase to go through. I’m just in a position to help them at the moment so it’s my turn to step up.

And no, I’m not the oldest, I’m number 3 out of 4 but I am admittedly the most organised! 😂

Well what a lovely family you come from then! ❤️
