I much prefer ‘period’. ‘Feminine’ is twee and somewhat patronising.

Prefer ‘period’ products. ‘Feminine’ sounds like they’re embarrassed to say they sell products fur that ghastly time of the month when women bleed.

Their reasoning is gender-woo fuckery, though.

Women and girls have periods.

Men don’t have periods.

Menstruation doesn’t give a fuck about how you identify.

I prefer period products but only because I hate the phrase feminine hygiene or feminine products

I'm fine with 'period', too. But it is a bit odd when you think about it. How many other things are 'periodic' without being called a period? It was probably grindingly euphemistic when it was coined, but now we are used to it.

It must be odd for Americans especially -- to have the same word for a piece of punctuation and a bodily process.

I always think of the butch women reaching for the vagisil wash when I hear feminine products years after seeing that as my partner wouldnt shut up at the time about the products name.

Can you post a link to the Waitrose press release where they are announcing this and they’re reasoning? A screenshot of some random post with no attribution doesn’t really cut it.

Trans men have periods.
They don't relate to the adjective "feminine".
Many will still menstruate.
Period Products is a reasonable compromise.
I was thinking pitchfork t'other day when what I thought was a trans woman was complaining about endometriosis. Cue a whole host of comments about not possible, no uterus etc
Turns out it was a trans man, who therefore did have a womb. They had long hair and looked male, but presentation came across as transwoman hence the mockery/ire. But they had had endo and it did make me think how much I do judge on looks alone.

No longer do we have to hide with our ‘feminine issues’.

Periods are ugly and painful and messy and it’s ridiculous to pretend otherwise.

’Feminine hygiene’ sounds like we’re lining our white panties with flower petals. We are not.

I am past periods but I hated with a passion feminine products or worse Feminine hygiene!, period products is much better for women.

It doesn’t really matter what a few people have tortuously achieved to try to escape being men. This is an issue that relates to women, no matter how typical it is of a few men to try to own the space, to gatecrash in and change the rules to suit themselves is truly typical male behaviour.
À lot of women have decentred men and male ways, and that includes men who are desperate not to be men, and along the way, make their presence felt in a disproportionate way, just like all disgruntled men.

I've called it period since 1993 when I had my first one until now when I'm approaching my last.

Exactly. This is so much better - anything that can contribute to reducing the stigma of the language around periods is a good thing.

Feminine hygiene is unnecessarily flowery, and is just an example of how women are expected to keep periods quietly to ourselves.

While I think period products is a better name it would have been nice for them to change it for women.

Wouldnt it just be easier then with the male products to simply say "female products " ??

I dont like their reasoning (because there is no such thing as a "non binary person" or "Transgender") but I also prefer the term period products tbh. Its more accurate.

? I've had to leave ocado because I didn't like their attitude to half the nation and indeed, world. I've been getting my food shop from Waitrose and I really don't want to have to leave them and get out of our new routine.
I'm very interested in what people think of it and yes I'm inclined to agree I'm not keen on feminine products either. However I don't agree with the reasoning behind it at all.
I think female products and under that banner period stuff maybe better.
At the moment I see it as waitrose bending to the trans lobby and erasing women in store.

They should be called period products because that's what they are.

Language is so important. We should be able to say periods out loud and talk about them freely. We should feel comfortable talking about our bodies and their natural behaviours without stigma or shame.

I'd complain if they were called feminine products too. Enough euphemisms! These things should not be taboo.
