It's being reported that the England match is being bought forward to 7pm Sunday evening- due to the forecasted thunder storms apparently!.

So every one can relax, kids can go to school Monday morning as planned!

Middlemarch123 · 03/07/2026 20:12

Just saw it on BBC news

WolfRamHeart · 03/07/2026 20:12

The pubs will be sad!

ExquisitelyDressing · 03/07/2026 20:26

That’s all my weekend plans upended FFS. How ridiculous at such short notice.

I don't think so IMO (as an ex publican) they would have struggled to get staff for those hours, still have had to open on time the following day for people who have no interest in football but wants a meal at lunch time. Some would have had far too much to drink before the match started and lots would/could have been drinking at home or in other pubs.

It sounds like it's not definite

Not ridiculous considering the reason concerns the weather, it's not easy to forecast thundestorms too far in advance.

Agreed...according to the Guardian who are quoting Reuters FIFA have yet to.confirm any change.

Until they are actually rolling in it’s hard to predict them at all. So now they will be playing at midday in whatever heat it is and high altitude.

I'd agree it's hard to predict the detail but I've been there a few times, from memory July is one of the wet months and PM/evening Thunderstorms are fairly frequent..

Planning an evening kick off might not have been the smartest thing to do, be interesting to see if it does get changed.

ExquisitelyDressing · 03/07/2026 21:19

I can imagine the outcry if it was at Wembley and all the ticketholders travel plans were suddenly in tatters.

GentleSheep · 04/07/2026 05:17

Well now a U-turn has happened and the match is on at 1.00 a.m. our time as was originally scheduled! So back to square one.

Such hoo hah over 90 minutes of a match that isn’t even a quarter final!

Well the time isn't changing now, unless the weather changes perhaps, but I was reading about some England fans who were flying from the US to Mexico and not expecting to arrive in time for the earlier kick off time.

That would have been annoying and I wonder if anyone jumped the gun and changed their flight? Plus if there's storms, there's the risk of flight delays anyway.

That literally happened in May

Middlemarch123 · 04/07/2026 07:50

They have now moved it back to original 1 a.m. time!

The one that was moved to Cardiff? Didn’t they have months of notice?

Thing is FIFA never moved the match timing in the first place

This all started out with stories that FIFA were considering a move.

The agencies got hold of it and they and the likes of the BBC started covering it but the headlines there were consistently "...could be moved....".

Then it got into SM, and "could" or "may" got dropped from things like thread titles..🙄

..and bingo the outrage bus got started and warmed up...

Shades of "send three and four pence we're going to a dance...."(IYKYK)

When Middlesbrough were reinstated to the playoffs ahead of Southampton. 2 days before the match.
