It's being reported that the England match is being bought forward to 7pm Sunday evening- due to the forecasted thunder storms apparently!.

So every one can relax, kids can go to school Monday morning as planned!

It hasn’t. Don’t spread misinformation.

storminabuttercup · 04/07/2026 08:11

It will be interesting if the storms are so bad the match will need to keep stopping, something about lightning strikes with in 8 miles

could be a very long night for those watching

The one that was moved to Cardiff? Didn’t they have months of notice?

No Southampton were meant to play Hull in the play off final and there was concerns of spying. Southampton were kicked out just days before and after the fans had bought tickets, paid for hotels and transport

Supersleepysheepy · 04/07/2026 08:21

My child will be going to school as normal anyway.

So the same thing didn’t happen. Southampton cheated, got caught, and paid the price

Keepoffmyartichokes · 04/07/2026 07:36

That literally happened in May

But the fans weren’t travelling from all over North America, bad enough for Hull and Middlesbrough

ExquisitelyDressing · 04/07/2026 08:25

Anyway, it hasn’t happened

Oh great, the kickoff is at 3am in my time zone so I was planning on getting up early to watch it then heading to work at 5 as usual. Might have to be late!

@Ilikewinter

Can I suggest that you ask Mumsnet to change the title of this post.

FIFA have now confirmed that the time HASN'T changed, so your thread title is very misleading.

The point I was replying to was you had said could you imagine if it happened at Wembley. I just pointed out something similar did happen.

Last night it was being reported FIFA were in talks to move the kick off time. Hardly spreading misinformation. This morning it's going ahead at 1am UK time as originally scheduled.

Op should have asked for the post to be removed as soon as she found out it was misinformation.

LlynTegid · 04/07/2026 09:00

England are going to lose in any case. Better for them and the Mexican team that the game is in the early evening local time than the midday sun.

Quite rightly the England and Mexico teams both objected to the suggestion.

Misinformation or not the thread title was misleading and didn't even correctly reflect what was being reported in the MSM.

At the very least for the sake of late risers this AM the title needs changing.

Pinemartin4 · 04/07/2026 09:03

The match was never moved to a 7pm ko...
they were considering it due to the weather....my god! only on MN.

Not only on MN at all, it was all over mainstream media last night! This mornings announcement is a backtrack.

Why do people on here have to be so aggressive about everything?

AnnaBelIa · 04/07/2026 09:12

Looks like they are keeping the original time after all! Frustrating!

Good thing the pubs will be open till 5 a.m.!

This would be a great time for those 'weather control' conspiracists to make sure there are no storms! Surely not difficult to do? 😅

But the match was still played on the same day, just Southampton wasn’t in it. That wasn’t a rescheduling.

Edited

Yes but it wasn't the same because it wasn't the world cup with fans travelling internationally and the time didn't change so no effect on stadium staffing, security, policing etc and no difference for pubs and other related businesses.

HelenaWilson · 04/07/2026 13:26

It's not a backtrack because there was never an official announcement that it was changed and bbc at least only ever said 'could be' and 'in talks'. If people on social media choose to make up their own headlines, that's not FIFA's fault.

I’m currently IN Mexico City and there has been similar ongoing conversation irl/ on msm about weather and kick off times with midday start here seemingly confirmed. It’s not a Mumsnet thing.

Not wasn't the world cup but the kick off time did change, and some fans did travel internationally. It's fairly similar just on a smaller scale.

I'm sure it's not just a MN thing but all the headlines in the UK MSM I saw last night had a "could" or "may" caveat.

The explanation in the Guardian this AM of all this reckons the chain of events was...

  1. FIFA officials certainly started to discuss a change.
  2. Local media heard about the discussions and leaked it (which might explain what you've heard).
  3. ..But FIFA never announced a change of kick off time, they stuck with plan A.

"...
Fifa were wrong-footed when news leaked in Mexico during the afternoon that negotiations to make the switch, due to the prospect of thunderstorms and flooding on Sunday evening, were taking place but ultimately decided to keep the status quo...."

Fair enough, I'd forgotten about the kickoff time. I support a Championship side myself and did feel for all the fans and teams involved.
