What modern habits of younger generations do you hate the most? Lighthearted

Lighthearted.
What are the things that you can't stand today that just reminds you that you don't understand younger generations any more (I am 40s)? Not dieing on a hill for anything, just sharing some grumbles.

I'll go first:

Boys and men who walk around without a shirt the moment the sun is out. I am talking high street, trains, buses. Nobody wants to see you in a state you are in when you take out the bins, Steven. Bonus points for "going out" in crocs.

Crocs/flipflops + socks for anything more than taking out your bins, haha. This one is unisex, looks crap on both men and women. Ew.

My kids are ticking all these boxes, DD with her flies undone on her denim shorts, being “into” skincare, calling things aesthetic, having everything shower, DS with his alpaca hair and sagging trousers, calling me bro or brah, answering the phone without saying hello and hanging up without saying bye.
Can I add.. asking for a “rat girl dinner” (plate of random snacks) and describing everything that is annoying as “long”.

I am 45 but I quite like “rat girl dinner”.

Isn’t this an ageist thread? If you had changed younger to older in your title, the older posters would be outraged…

The difference is that us older posters are complaining with affection, not malice.

Stomping around in G string bikini bottoms with a flabby bottom. We did have g string bikinis in the 80s and 90s but you'd have to be pretty toned to wear one and you'd put on some shorts when you went to get a drink from the bar. One of the girls at the pool seemed to have a big bruise on it and didn't seem to think more coverage was required.

Sure many of us have a big arse but I am not sure what you are achieving with such an airing other than putting me off my chips..

sandalbed · 09/07/2026 22:13

@Overtheatlantic that isn’t relevant to whether something is ageist or sexist etc.

How are people classifying "younger generation here"? I'm a millennial, and a lot of the stuff described so far is not new - saying "like", owning a water bottle, taking photos etc.

Same! I’m 41 and drink water, say like and use WhatsApp in the way that annoys PPs.

My one minor peeve of people in their 20s is: it’s fine to text me saying “here” if you’re outside my flat and I’m coming down to head out somewhere, but if you want to come in to my flat you need to press the buzzer. Because that is literally how I’m going to let you in!

Oh but the younger girls of all shapes and sizes wearing what they want! For themselves and their pals and not for lads! I think this is A Good Thing.

We had a popular-with-the-young-ones festival in my city recently when it was baking hot and oh my god so many arse cheeks on show of all shapes and sizes. But man they looked like they were having fun and giving zeros shits and good for them! (Once I’d got over going through town and not knowing where to look, and then realising that was very much a me problem and not a them problem!)

Some are just so unprofessional, and I really do mean some, not all, but still it definitely feels like a generational thing. Here’s what I’ve dealt with: I had a staff member who would come and go at completely random times and never say anything to me except “hi” and “bye.” I was her boss!! When I finally sat down to talk to her, she said she thought that’s just how we operated, I go when I want, she goes when she wants. What?!?!

Another person took a leave of absence right after an unfavourable performance review and was away for four months. And just today, a different staff member failed to show up for work after already being away for five weeks. When I texted to ask if she was okay, she emailed me back and casually mentioned she’s arriving tomorrow and will be in next week. Like… wtf!?

I would never dream of acting like this in a work place, not now, not when I was young person. It blows my mind.

sandalbed · 09/07/2026 22:56

@LotsofpieOn Mns you are young if under 45 as the average user is old, hence why they think millennials are the youth!

Nousernameideaaga · 09/07/2026 22:59

“like”

😡

I don't believe it's for themselves. They can't really see their own bums. And G Strings are generally most uncomfortable for the larger lady. It's more likely to get an overall tan and look better naked. Usually for the boys. So no great feminist agenda there.

Anyhow, if their self expression is a blot on my landscape, I reserve the right to complain about it.

IfItsNotOneThingItsYourMother · 09/07/2026 23:14

like when they’re like talking and like every other like word in each like sentence is like.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 10/07/2026 07:05

Wearing headphones all the time.

malware · 10/07/2026 16:43

I would also like to add - doing every day tasks in a cack handed way because they need to be done with 2 hands but they are too attached to their phone to put it down or in their pocket.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/07/2026 17:29

Saying ‘like’ every 3 words.

TheCommonWoMan · 10/07/2026 17:57

Definitely the weird makeup/body image trends. Lips, brows etc. Plus the pouting.
Awful look.
I always hate it when the TV news shows pictures of young victims pouting - thats how they will be remembered rather than smiling.
But then I'm an old part.

LightningTree · 10/07/2026 23:23

What I hate is like people like having to use ‘like’ like every other word.
