If you have please tell me all about it! I desperately want to go on pointless.

I applied to supermarket sweep, but never got on! I did sit in the audience of Trisha though and I was on the show (when they zoomed in on the audience) 😎

Eminybob · 18/06/2026 21:17

I was on Catchphrase and won. But it was only on stage at Butlin’s when Stephen Mulhern had his show there.

I was on a game show and won £5k! It was an absolute buzz!

I was on pointless about 8 years ago and won the trophy. It was lots of fun and a very easy process. Applied online with a work colleague. We then got invited to meet with production team and 7 other pairs. We did an hour or so of mock rounds and then they asked 3 pairs to stay behind and everyone else was thanked and sent home. We then had to record a little pitch on camera and were told we would head soon. A few weeks later we got told they wanted us and to let them know available dates etc. They paid for our travel and accomodation and we had a fab time. Filmed 2 episodes on the same day, but they pretend it's weeks later and make you changed clothes etc. All was great and I would highly recommend it to everyone.

I have, but it's not been aired yet and so I'm not allowed to say anything about it!

I went through a stage a good 30 years ago when I was a student. Was on 3 game shows. One with very small prize (£75) and a "trophy". I still have it, brass easelette if anyone remembers! One I bombed out on, for some reason I go super nervous and made loads of mistakes (100%) but I got a mug souvenir. And one evening game show where I got a reasonable prize set (tv, washing machine and a couple of hundred quid), didn't win the star prize though.

It really was a fabulous day, especially the game shows. 100% wasn't so good, very quick turnaround. But the other two you got the whole day in prep, met the hosts and celebrities and were very well looked after. All had paid travel and hotels and during filming, catering was supplied. Brilliant experience and I am so very glad it did it.

I applied for about 7 in total and got on 3. Can't remember all the ones I applied for though, early seasons of Who Want's to be a Millionaire but I think that was very oversubscribed at the beginning.

My son and my partner went on Pointless and won the trophy. They got it in the first round so everything was over for them by lunchtime. They complement each other very well in different knowledge areas and both have very good general knowledge/vocabulary. They won £3250 and their episode was aired few months ago. They were intervieved over zoom prior to their invitation.
Both enjoyed the whole experience and we enjoyed watching them winning.
Good luck in your application!

On Stage? - Yes.
On TV? - No.

I know someone who got to the audition stage on a new TV show; didn't get selected much to their shock. I think it depends a lot on how you look at the screen test and how fast you respond.

I was on The Chase in 2012/13 (filmed November 2012 but it didn’t air until March 2013). We beat The Beast and won £10,500 each.

madameimadam · 18/06/2026 22:54

My DH was on Popmaster when it was still on Radio 2. He won and got the 3 in 10.

The (cheap and rather plasticky) digital radio has pride of place on a shelf in the living room.

SeasideDaisy · 18/06/2026 22:58

Not a game show but I was on Bluepeter when I was 8. I went to primary school in Greenwich and the episode was about the Meridian line. I’ve lost the badge though, I wish I still had it .

I was on Popmaster on BBC Radio 2 in 2019 and won a digital radio.

DH and I applied to go on Pointless in the same year but didn't get the call back.

Dd suggested applying now that she's old enough to come with me if selected. Still waiting to hear back.

Go for it. You won't know u less you apply and you have nothing to lose.

youalright · 18/06/2026 23:34

I feel like I'd freeze up on camera and my mind would go blank and id just end up looking stupid

GoodkneeBadKnee · 18/06/2026 23:36

I haven't, but Dd was on 1%Club last year.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 18/06/2026 23:42

I have sat in the Mastermind chair in the studio, prior to watching two episodes being recorded. That's as close as I've got 😆

topcat2014 · 18/06/2026 23:42

My father won weakest link.

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 18/06/2026 23:44

I was on Bullseye, early days. We came 2nd, the winners refused to gamble. We had a go. Furthermore, we didn't manage to get 101. Lost everything. Such is life.

Wingwalk · 18/06/2026 23:46

Yes I was on Only Connect. It's easier when you play it from the safety of your sofa! Fun though.

I can't do Only Connect. You have my admiration.

JudithsDead · 18/06/2026 23:51

Yes!! I won Singled Out. Went to Sticky Fingers and saw Rent.

I did this to some extent. Watching The Chase at home I regularly got loads right, went on the show and had the biggest brain fart/freak out. How I got through I have no idea as I only got 2 on my cash builder and only definitely knew one of the questions on the head-to-head part, everything else was a pure guess. You’re meant to talk over your answers and I just couldn’t because I was just guessing the whole time. I still kick myself over one where I had worked out the answer then I doubted myself and chose something else. It took so long for me to get to the bottom they actually had to edit out a couple of questions we had both got wrong. 🙈

I actually knew more answers during the final Chase and pushbacks at least, one pushback I was the only person who knew it so hopefully that redeemed me a little.

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 18/06/2026 23:57

I was on University Challenge in the Bamber Gascoigne days. I answered one starter towards the end, I got it right and got huge ironic cheers from the crowd, and Bamber made some cutting remark. Otherwise, I had remained completely silent. I was so embarrassed, I didn't tell anyone about the experience. My parents never knew that I was on the show. I have never told my sister either.
