3 year old injured by crocodiles - man arrested

So I assume the man deliberately placed the child into the crocodile enclosure. Psychopath? Sounds similar to the man who threw the boy off the Tate?

(And also, not connected but these places are shit for the animals and should be shut down)

Fuck kindness at this point. Just keep your kids safe at all cost.

Agree !

I find this shocking. Let’s hope he has been released somewhere secure, with carers who can ensure he doesn’t repeat it or anything similar.

Eastie77Returns · 19/06/2026 09:08

I completely agree. I don’t understand why being fearful of a man up to twice my size who is impulsive, aggressive and lacking in cognitive reasoning is irrational or misguided. I keep hearing that people with MH problems are more of a risk to themselves than others and I’m sure that’s true. But why does that mean I can’t feel genuine fear when in the presence of someone who is mentally ill and behaving as if they might harm others?

Exactly! I don’t see why him having SN means we shouldn’t be fearful just so we don’t offend anybody. No I’m not chilled about someone’s disabled son coming up to me and my children and hurting us. No it’s not worth minimising just because he’s disabled. And I say that as a mum of two children with SN myself.

Well he’s not fit to be walking around in public either. Fucking ridiculous.

myglowupera · 19/06/2026 10:20

Not fit for interview. Not fit to be standing around a crocodile enclosure either. He shouldn’t have been there.

mrshoho · 19/06/2026 10:23

What a horrific situation. The thought of a happy carefree trip to a zoo ending this way is too much. Poor little defenceless child and his family. I find the reporting odd in that it says a child ended up in a crocodile enclosure. A separate report says he was pushed over. How do you just end up in a crocodile enclosure? How does a tiny 3 year old get pushed over a railing that is taller than him?

Honeyhonay · 19/06/2026 10:29

Released is concerning, released to where and under the watch of who?
This man is clearly a danger to the public.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 19/06/2026 10:35

We really do have problems coming through I’m afraid, and I can say this as someone who has spent the last five years working in education. We have complex need children who are not able to access specialist support - being funnelled and babysat in mainstream schools and the anger and violence is endemic. Those children then become adults who may or may not qualify for carers, and even if they do qualify, we know those jobs are underpaid and often undertaken by people who are not doing it as a vocation.

I have no idea what the solution is as I completely understand why we don’t want to reopen institutions but equally Care in the Community was only ever a cost saving exercise and is now still being touted as ‘inclusive’ when it fails everyone: from parents who have often ZERO respite when they are desperate, patients as the care is often non existent (note how many vulnerable adults pop up on those crime documentaries where they have been exploited by criminals who take over their accommodation and dip into their bank accounts) and the community due to cases of random violence such as the Tate gallery, the one this thread is about, train stabbing etc.

My DP is autistic. I guess I need to tell him tomorrow that he is not allowed to go to zoos.

And my adopted DD1 (17), too. She’ll be studying animal management at college starting in September. There is a wild animal reserve on site. Should they ban her and other autistic students from attending there?

This is my fear now, that this absolutely horrific incident will lead to more prejudice against autistic people in general. We don’t even know the full facts of what happened as yet.

Meanwhile, I just hope that little boy makes a full recovery.

june35 · 19/06/2026 10:59

The Daily Mail says it was (allegedly) a mentally disabled man who broke away from two carers.

and with the white paper and proposed changes to SEND education, it is going to get worse.

My son has complex needs, 2:1 etc but is able to access mainstream with support but far too many children are let down by the educational system and need specialist provision.

Why should he have not been out and about?
Are disabled people with SN to be locked up and never go out? Ever?

I mentioned the lady I see with 2 carers upthread. She goes to my local Costa... always has the same drink. Her carers use Makaton with her. She comes across as enjoying her time there. But, if you get to close to her, she tries to bite you. But from a distance, she will wave at you and give a sweet smile.
Why on earth should she be locked up and never experience all the things we take for granted?

Because innocent people shouldn't be at risk of getting bitten if they get too close to a stranger?
Some people are too dangerous to be allowed to be part of the community. It's not their fault. But we do need some long term hospitals, set up as enclosed communities/villages where people can live long term if they pose any danger.
Their human rights have to be balanced against the human rights of the rest of us to go about our lives without being bitten, stabbed, or thrown into crocodile enclosures.

Nobody is saying your DD shouldn’t be able to do those things just because she has Autism. There a loads of people who have Autism who don’t go around harming people. I’m sure @XenoBitch wouldn’t want to be with a man who thumps her all the time because he’s overwhelmed, so my guess he is nothing like the man yesterday. You just can’t compare your DD and pp’s partner with a man who has severe SN.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 19/06/2026 11:16

I wonder what the risk assessment said when it came to his care plan? If he had shown imputsive/unpredictable/violent behaviour previously, then going to a place aimed for children who are intrinsically smaller and vulnerable - by nature of their age would have needed its own risk assessment.

To be fair, pp didn't say taking someone to the zoo with severe SN or severe autism is a 'bloody stupid thing to do', they just said autism which is why they got those responses.

Oboliskit · 19/06/2026 11:22

I predict anyone with ‘autism’ on their medical notes is going to regret getting that diagnosis in years to come. It’s a very wide spectrum but I assure you, it won’t matter to the powers that be.

Yes that’s why I commented. I don’t disagree at all that it’s very different with someone with very severe LD. But please be specific, don’t just speak about autistic adults in general.

There are obviously specific questions to be answered about this particular individual and what his two carers were doing.

Possibly.
Released on bail because he was deemed unfit for interview.
However he may have been detained under the mental health act, we don’t know because none of the reports mention anything beyond being released by the police.
Hopefully he hasn’t just been released back into the community unsupervised.
