A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Yeh the NATO thing is nuts isn’t it with bollard going. At least the EU have said sort out your leader before we do a summit.

Yes thank goodness 22nd July was cancelled. What a mess.

Sod 'em. Not my circus, not my monkeys.

Kemi is on fire atm, and we're having Bollard BBQ tonight 😎.
Then watching the game and shagging my flag. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 😁

Has Delicate dipped a toe bean in the new paddling pool yet?

Was ‘helped’ in (DH plonked her in there) and immediately jumped out 😁
Seventh pit of hell she says!
Durable dog now thinks it’s just a big new water bowl 🤣

FluffyDog was NOT into the pool we got him the other year. Calls himself a working lab?! 🙄🙄

SapphireCasino · 23/06/2026 19:56

@Nuthatch26 it's important to shag the flag 😂

I saw very few flags on my train journey up here. Sad really.

@TheNoWord I find it really funny thatDelicateDog is horrified by the paddling pool. She sounds so much like me - in dog form.

I'm still up north. I'm on my second place, have moved on from where I was when I first got here. It's really noticeable that I'm mostly hearing southern accents. I guess we've come along and taken over and bought all the property. 😳 but then where did all the northerners go?

Having said that the place I'm in now is a bit strange. I don't necessarily mean strange bad. But it feels very empty. Lots of things are shut down. It's not an obvious tourist place so I'm not sure how much activity I should be seeing but the bars are mostly not open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday -same for a lot of restaurants. Some are open tonight because of the football, thank goodness. I won't name it because that feels a bit unfair if anyone lives there.

first place was Harrogate, which I loved. I could definitely live there. Really wish I'd had the sense to buy property there myself years ago. Also had a nice time because I was occupied for the first couple of evenings, but I also had a kitchenette. So I was spared the unpleasantness of eating out on my own in the evening.

I went to an event this afternoon and everyone I met was from down south, bar
one lady from Newcastle

I'm really hoping I can get home alright on Thursday. They're basically saying not to travel. I've had a word with the hotel and they do have room for me at the moment. I suppose I'll just have to keep an eye on the trains tomorrow and see what happens

On ‘flag shagging’, Julie Burchill’s written a piece in the Spectator about the 10th anniversary of the Brexit vote. In the course of the article she points out that the flag shag sneerers are happy to gather to wave EU flags en masse. (She doesn’t say anything about Palestinian flags but I’d add them in too.).

So it’s really just more left-wing hypocrisy. And I say this as someone who voted to remain.

Its much easier to tire them out in this weather if they swim. He's missing out, bless him.

He also doesn't eat non-stop like normal labs. He's a broken version!

He gets knackered doing lots of sniffing, so it could be worse. He's very scent driven.

Oh yes, very true. Masked up, intimidating jews and waving a Palestine flag is all fine. They have the cheek to label that 'peaceful protest' too. 🤷‍♂️

Our working lab with the spaniel is enjoying her second swim of the day just now DH took pity on the dogs tonight. But she won't go in a paddling pool or swimming pool, hates the hose pipe and the bath/shower. 😁

So Burnham wants to reverse the change to settlement rules, which will give ILR to the Boriswave.
That'll go down well.

CaveMum · 24/06/2026 07:25

Darren Jones saying he won’t stand.

There needs to be some accountability, at the very least I want to hear Burnham explain his ideas/policies and be forced to defend them.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 24/06/2026 07:39

I can’t get join in with this ‘GE now!’ moment.

If Labour wants to replace Starmer that’s a good thing, and within the UK’s rules and conventions. If Burnham wants to change course I think he should have some freedom to do so, short of major departure from the manifesto, otherwise there’s no point in having a new PM.

Of course the outcome will be that after some high spirits and cheering from Labour MPs, reality will bite and Labour will bomb again. But Burnham should have the chance to get to failure in his own way.

I’m the same about a GE. Of course their own tweets are there saying the same.

But I want to see what happens with Burnham.

This is an important test for Burnham: is he going to bat against the British people, like Starmer did? A lot of people are going to be watching eagle-eyed to see whether he intends to continue throwing us under the bus.

I do think that's why Starmer is so loathed: it goes fundamentally against our sense of fair play for our prime minister to bat against us...and utterly infuriating that he sanctimoniously scolded and finger-wagged as he did so.

Agree.
It won't do Burnham any good either in the long run. Even a pretend, short contest would help. If Jones isn't standing, it will be straight from the mayoralty to No.10 without being tested.

I'm not even that arsed if they go against their manifesto, to be honest. They've already done things which aren't included in it, so changing their mind isn't an issue for me.

I'm thinking increasing personal allowance but also increasing either income tax or NI by 1% would be reasonable. I also think they should reverse the employers' NI increases and the VAT on private schools (as that seems to actually be costing money).

I'd prefer sensible economic decisions than rigid adherence to a daft manifesto!

So true re the sanctimonious finger wagging and scolding.
I really hope that Burnham will be better on this front.

I don't think she believed a word she was saying anyway. I just don't believe people change that much I guess.
