Is this enough food for a lunchtime spread?

Hosting a family garden party in a month. There will be 9 adults, a 4 year old and two 3 year olds. Arriving at 11, staying at least a few hours. Plan is to just cover the kitchen table in food buffet style. 3 adults (including myself) are vegetarian. Plan is:

2 large quiches (one meat one veg)
Pasta salad with roasted veg + pesto
Potato salad
Sausage rolls
Lots of french bread and rolls
Range of cheeses
Range of sliced deli meats
Cooked chicken slices
Caprese salad
Crackers
Crisps and dips
Tomato, cucumber, pepper sticks etc.

Abundance of these ie the potato salad will be a big one, I am overweight and like a good portion so trust me when I say a large portion (anyone remember a similar recent thread? 😅)

Not sure on puddings yet, probably a fruit salad, biscuits and the birthday cake. Cake has not been planned so cannot give specific dimensions on size or volume of cake.

Is this enough? What else would you suggest?

Sounds great!! I would be tempted to do a pavlova for pud, can be made before and always looks great!! I use nigella’s recipe!

Totallyfrazzledmum · 16/06/2026 21:33

Olives
roast chicken thys / legs (hot rather than cold sliced chicken) or chilli

DaisyChain505 · 16/06/2026 21:33

Two quiches between 9 adults and 3 kids isn’t enough.

I would also get some pizzas to cook and cut up.

add some houmous to the dip selections and make sure there’s plenty of crisp varieties.

Things like cocktail sausages and scotch eggs are a good filler to chuck in too.

Pizzas is a good shout I was thinking about that!

I think two quiches is enough. I reckon only about 50% of people actually like quiche.

That sounds fine to me.

You could have some kid-friendly crisps and breadsticks amongst the selection so the parents aren’t stuck with giving them Pringles or whatever.

No the one a few weeks ago was absolutely criminal. She had a lettuce leaf per person and when people kept saying it wasn’t enough she just kept repeating how she’d buy more potatoes 🤦🏽‍♀️

ItIsGreen · 16/06/2026 21:38

I always like cooking too much because then there's leftovers for days!
You could add a pizza or two, homemade coleslaw, decent samosas, dhaal, roti if you have a good Indian place nearby

Easy but impressive looking pudding suggestions... Lemon cheesecake, raspberry and almond trifle, red berry pavlova, tiramisu

TheTwenties · 16/06/2026 21:38

If they are all platter size as opposed to plate size then yes that should be plenty, enough for healthy appetites but not enough to have stacks left over.

Good point I think I actually need to buy some more large serving bowls for the salads, or maybe get the tin foil platters

Definitely get some pizzas as I think you might be slightly under-quiched!

YoBetty · 16/06/2026 21:41

Chicken nuggets. Vegetable samosas. Cocktail sausages. Are any of the kids likely to be fussy? If so, ask the parents for suggestions.

hahabahbag · 16/06/2026 21:41

Quiches come in different sizes! My quiche pans are large, make 8 generous portions each so that would be fine but if smaller I’d make a third. Quiche is yummy especially goats cheese with roasted red pepper and caramelised onions …

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 16/06/2026 21:41

You need way more quiche! I’d eat half a quiche myself 🤣

backformoreofthesame · 16/06/2026 21:42

Sounds plenty - I might add some veggie rolls to give the veggies more choices

OMGitsnotgood · 16/06/2026 21:46

Sounds great but would add another quiche. Appreciate not everyone likes quiche - but what if these people do? I like a bit of everything to be available to everyone.

BrownTroutBluesAgain · 16/06/2026 21:51

2 quiches isn’t enough especially as it’s the only veggie main choice
So one quiche choice for veggies ?
Unless the sausage rolls are veggie ?

SemmaLina · 16/06/2026 22:01

Personally , I don’t like eating food cold , if it should be hot ie potatoes , pasta etc
How about some coleslaw ? instead or as well as
But the rest sounds great

This is my food dream, I love this sort of spread. I was at my mums the other day and she had baby mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes to put with some fancy breads. It was INSANE. You can buy a pack from M and S or Sainsbury’s etc, well worth it!!!

Have you tried mozzarella, slices of tomatoes with pesto drizzled over the top 😋

This is the kind of thing my family usually tends to do, like make your own rolls. Breads, cheeses, meats, tomatoes avocado. So I'm kind of expanding that for a larger crowd

The kids are covered, they'll have cheese or ham bread rolls, babybels, veg sticks, crisps, fruit. Will get some yoghurt pots, and someone suggested breadsticks I always have them in
