Wealthy banker with connections to royalty is arrested in hunt for notorious 'Putney Pusher' | Daily Mail Online

I vividly remember this case which still haunts me and cannot believe it was ten years ago. Finally someone has been arrested who appears to be an ex army wealthy man.

I hope he is charged - so arrogant.

Why no name and nationality? isn't that mandatory now or is it just for certain perpetrators?

I also think he will evade jail, he'll have a solid defence of something on the line of momentary lapse/fit or something with medical evidence being provided. I really hope he goes down and never get his life back together

No name released because he hasn't been charged yet, just arrested.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 15/06/2026 13:32

Someone must have given him an alibi at the time. And allegiances change so they can now nab him.

@Monty36 its pretty clear the PP is not saying that PTSD is an excuse for bad behaviour, or not real. She’s saying it gets wheeled out (falsely or unreasonably) to avoid punishment for bad behaviour.

FayeMumsnet · 15/06/2026 13:32

Hi all,

Just a gentle reminder to be mindful when discussing cases involving potential crimes. It’s really important that we don’t speculate about the identity of anyone involved or try to “join the dots” based on limited information.

Guessing or naming individuals, directly or indirectly, can have serious real‑world consequences for people who may be completely unconnected. It can also be distressing for families and those affected.

Please stick to discussing the situation in general terms and avoid posting anything that could identify or unfairly implicate someone. If in doubt, it’s always better to leave it out.

Thanks for helping keep the board a thoughtful and safe space for everyone.

Best wishes.
MNHQ.

There's a huge amount of speculation on this thread. He may just admit it was him. After all this time, unburdening may be what he wants to do. The courts are much harsher towards people who perpetuate lies both for a period before they are caught and when they are on trial. Dishonesty is punished as well as the offence.

MNHQ are right to post a warning but I don't think there is 'huge speculation', no one has posted anything other than what's in the Mail. White, banker, West London, Royal connections could describe thousands of men in London.

He must have been. The woman would have told the police if she'd had any idea who he was.

I'm still struggling with the idea mentioned earlier that people around this violent misogynist knew what he'd done and didn't tell the police. I can just about see why the partner of an abusive man might feel unable to do it. I can't for the life of me see why colleagues and friends would hold back. How would you live with yourself if he did it again?

Yeah it's absolutely terrible isn't it. I hope he goes down for life. Which will probably be like 7 years FFS.

Hoping it’s the right guy and that he is punished most severely. It’s horrifying that a violent misogynist could to try to kill to a woman and then causally jog back past the scene to see if she’s dead and make off uncaught. God knows what else men like that get up to in their spare time. What has he been doing before and since? Horrifying.

Agreed

PerkingFaintly · 15/06/2026 13:40

Thanks, @FayeMumsnet .

I'll be gutted if justice isn't done – which includes it being the right person who is convicted.

And certainly no one should be adding their private speculation about names to that.

I felt a PP might – perhaps inadvertently – have been fishing for that.

PerkingFaintly · 15/06/2026 13:42

We will be told more as the situation develops. I can wait.

So delighted he has been caught.

Well this is the 4th person they have arrested...so we will see

ServietteUnion · 15/06/2026 13:46

Remember this very well and it's excellent that he appears to have been identified and charged. Attempted GBH seems pathetic but if he'd found guilty his victim would have a strong case for a civil suit, I would think. So I'm also glad he's got money and I hope she gets plenty of it.

Passingthrough123 · 15/06/2026 13:46

Regardless of whether it's the person arrested or someone else, I'm quite fascinated by the fact that whoever the pusher is, they have lived with it hanging over them for 10 years. Either they're so sociopathically arrogant that they just dismissed it from their mind like it never happened or – more likely – they've been haunted by knowing what they did and have spent ten years fearing a knock on the door from the police. I can't imagine living with that secret given how high profile the case is.

nomas · 15/06/2026 13:48

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 15/06/2026 13:25

Although the guy appears to be a psycho, he didn't kill the woman and her physical injuries were described as cuts and bruises. I wouldn't keep that kind of secret for someone, but I bet there are plenty who would, especially if they were enjoying his money. The CCTV appears to show the victim take a step towards him - he may have told someone that something was said to him or that he reacted. We just don't know and may never know.

I've just watched it again and I really can't see why you would think she takes a step towards him. She is clearly walking in a straight line.

Hoardasurass · 15/06/2026 11:30

I expect him to go with the It wasn't me defence.

I wonder who he pissed off enough to hand the police new information though

Ex wife who he abused would be my guess.

DivorcedButHappyNow · 15/06/2026 13:50

Something similar once happened to me walking through busy Notting Hill. A male runner elbowed me out the way and into a wall.

Not caught on CCTV and over v quickly. Hard to describe him. A flash of blue.

I was covered in blood and didn’t go out to dinner as planned.

Lifeomars · 15/06/2026 13:51

GameOfJones · 15/06/2026 11:37

Hopefully this results in a charge. That poor woman, and what an amazing bus driver!

The bus driver was incredible and my heart goes out to that woman. Today's news is very welcome but it must be bringing back traumatic memories for her and she will be on edge waiting to hear if he is charged or not. Very much hope the police have the right man and that they have a water tight case against him

Sally2791 · 15/06/2026 13:51

I’ve often wondered about families and close friends of people like that, if they know or suspect something

DryTerryandJUNE · 15/06/2026 13:57

Owl55 · 15/06/2026 12:46

Wealthy banker , allegedly royalty connections, army type and no doubt the best lawyer money can buy! He won’t go to prison!

Would be good PR if he did though. What with the whole Andrew Windsor, Peter Mandelson farce.

Savoury · 15/06/2026 13:58

The runner’s outfit always struck me as interesting. It echoed the kit that gyms in investment banks gave out to use at the gym that were then laundered and replaced, free of change, and naturally a few migrated out the door.
Shapeless tees and huge shorts in the same colours basically.
Not surprised the potential suspect is a banker on many levels.

Depends if he were suspected. It might be that he was never identified as a potential suspect at the time so the issue didn't arise. Agree though, allegiances change. He's pissed someone off or someone's got free of him.

Aluna · 15/06/2026 14:01

Yes! This was down the road from me. He’s absolute arsehole.

There is no way his DP did not recognise him from the 2 pics and probably his friends too. They must have colluded in protecting him.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/06/2026 11:42

Why didn't the people who knew go to the police?

If he’s like this in public, who knows what he was like with his family in private.

I don't see that on the CCTV

I see him running in the middle of the walkway and her walking on the left - when he veers onto her side and shoves her and continues running on her side although he has plenty of space on his other side
-at 0.08 - man running in middle of the path
-0.09 - still middle of path but woman on left walking into view
-0.10 he steps towards her and shove her at the bus - despite having 4-5 feet of space on the other side
