Wealthy banker with connections to royalty is arrested in hunt for notorious 'Putney Pusher' | Daily Mail Online

I vividly remember this case which still haunts me and cannot believe it was ten years ago. Finally someone has been arrested who appears to be an ex army wealthy man.

I hope he is charged - so arrogant.

If guilty it'll be interesting to know how he got away with it so long.

@PeoniesAreMyFavouriteFlowers I'm assuming because they don't think they're going to be able to gather sufficient evidence to prove that he intended to kill her (attempted murder) vs intended to very seriously injure her (attempted GBH).

I think there are a lot of Attempted GBH / GBH cases that to you or I would be Attempted Murder/Murder because there's a high evidence threshold for murder.

I suppose its right when you view it from the angle of avoiding miscarriages of justice

It was a truly callous event that has stayed with a lot of
people (especially women as we all know he wouldn’t have tried to do that to a man).

If someone pushed you under a bus, wouldn’t you want him found?

You can see on the footage that he ran straight past a man before running straight at the woman to push her. Misogynistic bastard. I really hope this is him and I really hope he thought he was off the hook for it as I’d have loved to have seen his arrogant face when they arrested him.

Wealthy banker , allegedly royalty connections, army type and no doubt the best lawyer money can buy! He won’t go to prison!

Hopefully it's the right man because as this thread shows, if it's a fit up, the public appetite for absolutely anyone to go down for this is apparently quite high.

Er, no, the public appetite is for the right person to go down .

If in the past the police have decided they are getting so much heat for not getting a perpetrator that they fit up a random plausible suspect, that tells you that the police thought it was ok to pull the wool over the eyes of the public, not that that was what the public wanted.

Nobody on this thread is thinking ‘well he might not be the right person but if not, he’ll do’ and I bloody well hope the police aren’t thinking it either.

If he's found guilty of course he'll go to prison. The scrote who attacked a police officer with a sledgehammer while smashing up an arms factory is now serving several years for GBH. He had an Oxford degree and a middle class background. I'm pleased to say it made no difference. It should make a difference in the opposite direction. If you have a great start in life and still turn to crime and violence you should face a worse penalty.

Do they know for certain that he was a stranger to the victim?

I just can't imagine what kind of person would do such a thing. I bet he'll claim he was having temporary acute psychosis or something or if he's ex army he might wheel out the excuse of PTSD?

For people who do suffer from PTSD it is a very real thing. And not an excuse.
No idea and not commenting on this person.
But please do not say ‘wheeling out the excuse of PTSD’.

AplineDaisies · 15/06/2026 12:50

Police must have a lot of strong evidence to charge him. I pray he gets a very lengthy sentence.

He must have been. The woman would have told the police if she'd had any idea who he was.

I'm still struggling with the idea mentioned earlier that people around this violent misogynist knew what he'd done and didn't tell the police. I can just about see why the partner of an abusive man might feel unable to do it. I can't for the life of me see why colleagues and friends would hold back. How would you live with yourself if he did it again?

I suffer from it myself. I was implying he was such an arsehole he'd falsely blame it on that. Same as I said he'd pretend to have acute psychosis.

Not that people who have PTSD or psychosis push people under busses.

Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

He hasn’t been charged yet…that’s also why no name has been released.

Yeah he'll say her coat made her look like she was an enemy combatant or some such crap..

Did not spot that hes been charged though. Police and DM sailing v close to the wind if so..

I think most of us would struggle to think a friend or someone we felt OK about could do something terrible. Humans are great at rationalizing and a think a lot of people would seek to minimise or explain away bad behaviour. It's really common.

At the risk of further endangering justice, Ill add that contuing his run and coming merrily back past does rather undermine that one, so maybe they won't try it...

I thought one of the pp implied they knew but they haven't expanded on any of it.

If those who knew were colleagues in the banking industry then I would guess perhaps they felt they couldn't risk even anonymously reporting it without risking their careers. Or maybe they just didn't care.

Thelnebriati · 15/06/2026 13:04

I vaguely remember they thought they had a suspect but he was supposed to be out of the country at the time, or something. If anyone covered for him and gave him an alibi, will they be charged with perverting the course of justice?

ThePalla · 15/06/2026 13:05

Hopefully the judge will congratulate him on behaving well in court and sentence him lightly so as not to damage his future.

PerkingFaintly · 15/06/2026 13:05

Yes, I remember this about there having been a strong suspect, named by many people who'd phoned in but then ruled out.

AlexandraLeaving · 15/06/2026 13:06

Thank you for sharing that news. I hope they have got the right man. The one who did this really needs locking up. I think about it every time I walk near the bridge.

As others have said, the bus driver is a hero. There is very little room for manoevre on the bridge and the fact he managed to swerve to avoid it is something of a miracle.

EasternStandard · 15/06/2026 13:06

I’m amazed no one at work recognised him and say who he was.

PerkingFaintly · 15/06/2026 13:06

It's made my day to know someone has now been charged with this, but I'm also with @DierdreDaphne that I really, REALLY, don't want to say anything which could jeopardise the trial.

I hope MNHQ will keep us on the straight and narrow about this.

MeltonInTheHeat · 15/06/2026 13:07

I'm delighted someone has been arrested and hope that they have the right person and can prove it.

If you suffer from it I am shocked you would use such a phrase as ‘wheeling out the PTSD excuse’. It is a condition that needs understanding. Not prejudice.
But thank you for explaining to all what you meant.

I get hoping that the person who did it is charged and convicted, but you have no idea whether this guy is the actual criminal yet, only that he's been arrested.

PerkingFaintly · 15/06/2026 13:11

In fact I've just reported the thread to MNHQ to ask them to keep an eye, to keep us legal.

I'm sure all of us want justice to be done.
