Wealthy banker with connections to royalty is arrested in hunt for notorious 'Putney Pusher' | Daily Mail Online

I vividly remember this case which still haunts me and cannot believe it was ten years ago. Finally someone has been arrested who appears to be an ex army wealthy man.

I hope he is charged - so arrogant.

Thanks!

Make around 35k-40k and 40-45k? That seems incredibly low for ED and MD at a well-known private bank!

That's an age range not an income level!

Very distasteful unless she had signed away her rights to the article or there was some other contractual obligation to publish. If not, an appallingly crass decision to go ahead.

Not to be flippant when it’s such an awful case.
But I hate her bathroom.
Very reminiscent of one of those previously grand but now hopelessly outdated and crumbling hotels.

The link to that article is from an archive website. The original article is gone.

Yes, but it was published in 2024. The date of publication is clearly shown in the archived version under the headline and the date the interview was carried out is at the end.

Google 'Descendant of Queen Victoria crashed Harley Davidson into cyclist'. You'll find an unusual story of a former British Army captain and descendent of Queen Victoria who apparently hit a female cyclist with his motorbike, fled without exchanging details, and claimed later he had no memory of this incident.

This is of course in no way related to the Putney incident, but is very striking to me how inhumane people can be to others on the road or pavements.

This person has just got divorced

I notice people on social media are already claiming the woman kicked him or tried to trip him up 🙄

People are very stupid and don't watch the full video - many have just looked at the still image that a lot of the media are using where her legs flail up in the air in front of him -but this is AFTER he pushes her and as she is falling backwards over the kerb.

Not sure why the media constantly uses this stil?????

Am I wrong in thinking that Freemantle had her first epilectic episode while behind the wheel and that's why she lost control? If so, that is radically different from shoving someone under a bus to avoid having to divert your jogging path six inches to your left.

That is what has previously been suggested, yes. The fact that the case has been re-opened possibly suggests the police may now have new evidence either about the medical condition or something else, e.g. use of phone while driving. There must be something to justify the case that's about to start. We'll known in a few months.

The one thing that's unarguable is that losing control of a huge heavy car like that is far more likely to cause serious injury than a smaller car. I am not a driver and it is a mystery to me why so many people drive massive cars in London when the roads are quite unsuited to them and they often seem to have only the driver in them.

This is what she originally argued and led to her not being prosecuted

But there is apparently new evidence so we must wait until the trial next month. One possibility is that she had suffered previous epileptic attacks and didn't report them to the DVLA. Possibly if she saw a private Dr they weren't on her NHS notes

Obviously more will come out at the trial and perhaps more about the police investigation after that but I’m shocked to see that 11 police officers are being investigated for their handling of the initial inquiry with five (four serving, one no longer in the force) for possible gross misconduct.

It isn't a mystery, it's because they think they're a status symbol like going ski-ing.

Except that "everyone" has a SUV these days (not me) and "everyone" goes ski-ing, so it's not really a symbol of wealth/middle classness at all.

What is clear is that if she had been driving a normal sized car the fence/wall/gate would have stopped it and she wouldn't have hit those children.

But that's for a different thread.

I wonder if some high up institutions or even the Royal Family are clearing house, given that the internet has many tenacious armchair sleuths.

I bet he does Parkrun

More likely the City Race or the JP Morgan Challenge.

When my DH did the City Race someone told him to get out of the f*cking way. I should say that my DH isn't fast and was nowhere near the fast wave, so the guy who told him to move wasn't going to win anything and if he'd actually been any good he would have been in the fast wave.

Well I don’t have much faith in the police for a variety of reasons, but to be negligent in a case like this seems particularly egregious. And whilst no doubt more will come out in the trial about eg the likelihood of a one off epileptic fit but that aside I’d have thought most of the evidence was far from difficult to obtain. We aren’t talking about a devious murderer who carefully covered their tracks requiring a complex investigation to identify and incriminate.
I’d just expect that an undisputed traffic event like this would leave relatively little room for mismanagement and given the tragic outcome that there would be a strong determination to do everything correctly and ensure justice is done.

Yes imagine lots of people close to you knowing you could just randomly shove a strange woman under a BUS and not anonymously tip the police off. I wish everyone who knew could get named and shamed so people can see who covers up people like that.

Maybe there were whisperings but they didn't know for sure, and didn't want to ruin the life of someone who, as far as they knew, was probably innocent. They would have known him as a friend/family member etc. and may have simply thought the rumours couldn't be true. He's getting divorced now (second divorce) and it's quite likely that she's given evidence to the police. Perhaps he confessed to her when he was in his cups and when they were close.

I'm no longer anything other than resigned when I hear of any public agency displaying weapons grade incompetence.

They did at the time too. I was on mumsnet then and some posters really went to town claiming it was obvious she had tried to trip him up. It got really nasty on here as I recall.

Yes I remember this. It was bizarre.

Really vehement need to make the victim seem at fault.

It’s unlikely to have been so life-endingly child-crushingly horrendous if she was in a fiat punto. Who needs to drive around urban areas in a massive tank? Selfish knobheads, that’s who.

It even mentions them on Wikipedia.

Though I suspect he will soon hire the same lawyers as the lady involved in the Wimbledon crash and all evidence of him and his family will be duly scrubbed off the internet.

She's been in court today. The trial will be at the Old Bailey.

I got my smartphone in 2014 and mine is showing back to 2015 or so

To me, I would assume someone jogging fast might be wearing a smartwatch or tracking their runs somehow too.

pouletvous · 16/06/2026 18:07

How on earth have they caugjt him?

MyRubyFox · 16/06/2026 18:08

If it was him, he's a complete arse. I hope they throw the book at him and he has a decent term in prison. Although going by current sentencing comparisons he'll get a couple of days.
