Art!

My own family are really good at it.
I married an arty man, whose family are all arty.
And now our DCs are quite artistically talented too.
I'm the exception! 😆

What do you wish you was good at?

Swimming. I never learned as a child but took lessons a few years ago and made pretty good progress. But I have never practised enough to keep it up, and now I'm back to one foot on the ground most of the time. 🙁

Languages

Hummusanddipdip · 14/06/2026 15:33

Another for languages. I did French at GCSE but its been a long time with no use. I doubt I could hold a half decent conversation.
Tried using dualingo, but I dont learn like that

Singing

EdinaTheConfessor · 14/06/2026 15:36

Singing. I LOVE singing but tone deaf.

Purplecatshopaholic · 14/06/2026 15:46

Self promotion, lol. Hide my light under a bushel and really you can’t expect anyone else to do it, lol.

muddyford · 14/06/2026 15:57

Reversing the car. Fine doing three point turns and reversing round a corner. But parallel parking, even after an intensive course a decade after passing my test, remains elusive. I'm sure it's genetic as my father struggled right up to when he handed his licence in at 90.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/06/2026 16:02

I'm good at starting things but I often stop and think "I'll just have a cup.of tea now", and then

Larrythecatforpm · 14/06/2026 16:03

Parallel parking, I failed two driving tests on it, the third time I passed as it wasn’t in the test. 😂
I still can’t do it nearly 15 years later even with cameras & sensors!

DIY, the big things like plumbing and electrics.
Drawing and painting.

Stepmum900 · 14/06/2026 16:21

Singing. I sing all the time at home but wish I could belt out a tune and be in tune or have a really powerful voice. It must feel very satisfying

Anjo2011 · 14/06/2026 16:28

Playing an instrument. When I see Orchestras I think how wonderful it would be to play an instrument to that level.

Silverbirchleaf · 14/06/2026 16:30

Grooming - felt my mum never really taught me how to be properly turned out and always struggled since.

JustGiveMeReason · 14/06/2026 16:35

Cooking.

I'd love to be able to confidently invite people round, casually, to just 'have a meal' and be able to produce something tasty. For me it is just too stressful to ever suggest and when I do try, it is always a very disappointing or embarrassing meal. I'm not even talking dinner parties or fancy meals.

RaraRachael · 14/06/2026 16:38

Art and ice skating.

My auntie and uncle were good amateur artists and my cousin is professional. I am beyond useless.

I have bought skates twice. First time I tried to learn by myself. Second time I had lessons but could never get over the fear of falling. I could probably have managed to learn as a child but there wasn't an ice rink anywhere near back then.

NorthernLiner · 14/06/2026 18:46

I can ice skate and swim competently but I also cannot decorate a cake for toffee!
I'm good at reverse bay park and parallel park but do not have a good singing voice, although I too, love to sing.

Sewing - would love to make and alter clothes

Singing - I have a speech impairment and can’t make the right noise even though I know what noise I want to make

Yes!
I am always astonished that my sister knows this stuff.

YelramBob · 14/06/2026 19:05

Sport! I can't run, jump, catch or throw 😐 I can hit things really hard though and have an eye for precision so tennis, badminton and martial arts are the only things I've ever done well at (anything involving short bursts of energy).

I can drive and park pretty well, just struggle daily to stay upright and not drop things 😣

TheeNotoriousPIG · 14/06/2026 19:13

Playing string instruments!

I was not allowed to have much-wanted music lessons as a child, because I was supposed to be a sporty success instead... so I am trying to make up for all of those lost years of music lessons as an adult instead!

The other thing that would be handy to be good at would be dealing with my hair. It generally defies whatever taming techniques that it is subjected to, so I am not very good at looking tidy and well-groomed!

NorthernLiner · 15/06/2026 17:05

@TheeNotoriousPIG
I think Art and music are related as they're all good at that too!
I, again, am the outlier 😄
