Anyone else put the heating on yesterday?

It felt so cold and damp yesterday that I put the heating on for a couple of hours. How are you all drying washing that can’t be tumbled in this weather?

Yup it was 12c on the school run yesterday so put the heating on in the afternoon. Have also been putting my heated seats on in the car.
Although I'm not moaning as I hated the previous heatwave we had!

As for the washing we have heated dryers, hang it up before bed and dry by the morning 🤗

Butteredtoast55 · 12/06/2026 10:18

We had the underfloor heating on in the kitchen and it was the only warm place in the house! Today is meant to be much warmer but do far it's wet and cool 🙄

Aleiha · 12/06/2026 10:20

we lit a fire!

Boobyslims · 12/06/2026 10:23

Yes. And getting clothes dry is a nightmare.

DramaAlpaca · 12/06/2026 10:24

Yep, and on Monday. It was freezing. Normally I turn the heating off at the end of April and we don't put it back on until October.

PenandPip · 12/06/2026 10:25

Yes

chirrupybird · 12/06/2026 10:26

I just leave the thermostat set, and the heating has come on a few times over the last few days.

the80sweregreat · 12/06/2026 10:26

I’m sure that the weather will cheer up eventually. The Uk had three heatwaves last year and most things that I’ve read all state it’ll happen again.
I don’t like intense hot weather myself, but June can sometimes be unpredictable and not having hardly any rain in April or may where I live did feel unnatural. The five days heatwave we had in may was very hot so I suppose it’s a shock it’s now a bit colder and rainy.

Totallyfrazzledmum · 12/06/2026 10:27

Yes on all week and blankets out.

GasPanic · 12/06/2026 10:27

No. Heating goes off on 1st April and comes back on 1st November.

Actually this year there was hardly any used in the second half of March and the first half of November. It was a very warm autumn.

Duffybearblue · 12/06/2026 10:28

yes, had it on yesterday and it's on now as well

DoAWheelie · 12/06/2026 10:30

I had it on for about 2 hours. My house retains heat very well so that was enough to keep it at a reasonable temperature for the rest of the day. Usually I'd just grab a lap blanket but I have a sick cat at the moment and he was shivering (and I'm a big softie). He spent the night under the duvet with me as it got quite cold at one point.

He's much happier today and is lounging in the window in the morning sun.

As for washing - I just don't buy anything that can't go in the machine or tumble dryer. Life is too short to faff around with fabric demanding special treatment.

Gettingbysomehow · 12/06/2026 10:33

I absolutely refuse to turn to central heating on in June. I got the electric blanket out instead and the cats hogged it all evening 😅

Snippit · 12/06/2026 11:04

Yep, also had my sheepskin boots on. Getting really pissed off with this weather. I want to get into the garden, not sat indoors all bloody day, there’s only so much housework you can do. Even the dogs are fed up with getting wet in the rain, one is refusing to go for a walk, 🤪

StephensLass1977 · 12/06/2026 11:07

Yes. Cold, cloudy and grey in the north east for most of this year. I was also in London this week and it rained solid. People were in coats.

Today is a beautiful day with blue skies but it keeps drizzling on and off so can't put washing out.

At very few points this year can I honestly say I've felt warm / it's felt like Spring.

Yes, me too. I was WFH yesterday and was glad when it kicked in!

Too right! It either survives or dies in this household 😂

I was very tempted to put mine on so I got the hoover out, worked up a sweat and then hid under a blanket with a hot chocolate. Not a good start to June Sad

drammmalllammma · 12/06/2026 11:21

Yes plus 4 layers ! A lot warmer today thank goodness.

PersephoneParlormaid · 12/06/2026 16:57

It threw it down this morning, but not a cloud in the sky now, cracking the flags 🤣

I put mine on today. So fed up with the cold 🥶

Myfridgeiscool · 12/06/2026 17:07

came very close to putting the heating on yesterday, it was so cold and damp. Nearly put my ‘big coat’ on for the dog walk too.
The heated airer went on and I’ve still got two duvets, a quilted throw and fleece blanket on my bed. Brrr.

Chipsahoy · 12/06/2026 17:15

We had the wood burner lit last night. It’s much nicer today.

hobbydrama · 12/06/2026 17:41

Haha yes 😳 Even DH suggested it and he’s a firm ‘turn it back on in October’! It was grey and cold and I felt the house just needed a warm as well as us 😂

tiramisugelato · 12/06/2026 17:45

No way, it's not that cold.

I thought same thing. I was outside most of yesterday and all I noticed was the odd rain shower. The house temperature didn’t drop anywhere close to triggering the heating to come on.
