Friend forgetting lunch

Hi this is pretty minor but it’s bugging me- messaging back and forth with a friend and we arranged to meet today- I messaged yesterday asking if we are still on and no response so the day has now been and gone! I don’t have the mental energy to keep checking and reminding another adult, I have GCSE age kids and a husband etc etc- I can’t prop up other people too but now feel deflated- she’s notoriously scatty but manages to go to work and catch flights 😊

So you had already made the arrangements? Did you go?

Thebinisrightthere · 08/06/2026 17:42

That's very annoying. I always try to write down appointments etc in my diary so I have no reason to forget. No doubt you'll get a reply from her at some point

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 08/06/2026 17:42

That’s not her being scatty - for whatever reason she changed her mind and didn’t have the decency to tell you.

Wendalicious · 08/06/2026 17:49

I didn’t go as she didn’t reply to yesterdays message,

I just have a vision of her sat there wondering why you didn’t come.

That’s what I’m thinking!

If she has form for flaking on plans then stop making them.

Silly. Who doesn’t check their phone?

LlynTegid · 08/06/2026 17:52

A one-off you I think could accept as one of those things. Not if it is repeated.

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 08/06/2026 17:52

Maybe she's ill?

Me.

plims · 08/06/2026 17:52

Me.

Why?

Ilovemyshed · 08/06/2026 17:57

Why not just call her?

JohnnyFedora · 08/06/2026 17:57

plims · 08/06/2026 17:52

Me.

You wouldn't check your phone if you were say waiting for a friend and they weren't there 20 minutes after the meet up time?

plims · 08/06/2026 17:59

ThisOneLife · 08/06/2026 17:55

Why?

Because I’m not particularly attached to it. It lives in my bag and I use my laptop/tablet for most things. I would hear it ring but I wouldn’t check for messages every day.

Wenttoaweddingonamonday · 08/06/2026 17:59

You made an arrangement but didn’t turn up? Maybe she thought that once the arrangement was made that was it. Can’t be doing with all the double checking etc.

I have 2 phones and sometimes one will sit in my work bag for days without being checked.

Mary46 · 08/06/2026 18:02

She should have confirmed yes or no. Op I stopped planning stuff as found people flaky or days replying to me!!

fruitypancake · 08/06/2026 18:03

They obviously didn’t confirm time and place or the OP would have known it was confirmed and gone along . Sounds like it was a loose arrangement that would have been confirmed with details nearer the time - which is what the OP was trying to do !
how frustrating and annoying - this has happened to me before , it’s rude unless there is a good reason for her not replying

latetothefisting · 08/06/2026 18:04

it's really rude to not reply to you at all. Cancelling last minute would have been bad enough!

EverytimeItPours · 08/06/2026 18:04

Had she read the message op?

Maybe it was a plan that needed confirming. Like ‘let’s have lunch and work out the location closer to the time’.

Lol, whilst wilfully ignoring texts from the OP?

That’s exactly it! When she would have replied yesterday I would have then said “Mclunckys at 1?” Etc

Life’s too short. Personally I wouldn’t bother contacting her again.
