It's 10 degrees Celsius, and I have had to put my heating on!

It's JUNE!

A couple of weeks ago I had the fan on when I was in the house, and I was getting a suntan walking around Llandudno!

I'm sooooo cold!

Anyone else had to put the heating on?!

I’m a heat-hater but this cold and wet weather is miserable.
I have added two wool blankets to my summer duvet and lit the wood burner an hour ago.
It’s ‘10° but feels like 8°’ apparently , DH is out with bigger dog and they’ll both be miserable when they get back, oh joy!

StephensLass1977 · 06/06/2026 12:09

North East England here. Very windy. I can't even pick the dogs' poop up as the wind literally whips the bag out of my hand, and for a few days now.

It hasn't truly stopped raining since last October.

We had some of the heatwave which the rest of the country enjoyed, but not all of it - about 2 days. Two Sundays ago was sweltering but no other really warm days at all this year.

Dog walk at 8pm yesterday. I was freezing. Got my phone out later, and checked photos from the equivalent date 1,2,3 years ago - it was bright, sunny and looked really warm. Right now it's grey, windy and dark.

PuppyMonkey · 06/06/2026 12:13

It’s cold yes, but nothing a cardigan or jumper won’t fix. Or sit under a blanket. Definitely no call to put your heating on imho.

MrsClattenburg · 06/06/2026 12:26

I know, I had y vest and shorts on this time last week and was sweating 🥵

Now I'm digging out my black jeans to wear for a lunch out 😫

And how can the weather forecasters say 'we need the rain'???
Er, it rained non stop for months earlier this year...

GentleSheep · 06/06/2026 12:28

Haha yes I confess I also turned on the heating this morning - just for an hour!! To warm the place up! Yes it is cold today.

AnAutumnCrow · 06/06/2026 12:36

Yep, heating went on this morning for an hour or so. My OH has a horrible chest infection and I don't want him to suffer a cold, damp-feeling house, and I've got arthritis, so fuck it.

It was 6am and miserable, and taking the edge right off the dank atmosphere did cheer me up.

I agree. It's rained for about 5-6 months! 😬

I bet there will be a hosepipe ban by mid July. 😆

I’ve got Arthritis too (RA) and have the same take on it. If I need to, I’ll have the house like Barbados.

I’ve had a couple of people say to me “but think about the environment!”. No, bollocks to that, my RA trumps the bloody environment, so it can do one!!

That's why I popped it on. The thermostat clicked in at 16C! I live at quite a high altitude (750 feet above sea level,) and we get some sharp winds up here sometimes! The temperature is always 3 degrees C cooler than the little town 3 miles from us too (that's a lower altitude.)

It did go off after 35 minutes and hasn't come back on. Much warmer now, and the temperature is 16C now! Bit more bearable! 😁

Well yeah, I'm all for money saving and helping the environment, but I'm not sitting in a cold house. And if you need it to help your condition, it's very important to put the heating on to keep you warm. Flowers

Good god I’m in Ireland and my heating has been off completely since the start of April. Although my house is highly insulated!

HoppityBun · 06/06/2026 13:03

In June 1975 there was a few days of snow and sleet, followed by a drought that lasted into 1976. 1975 and 1976 were among the warmest and driest summers of the C20. Spring 2026 was the warmest on record, I think.

It’s strange to recall that before the effects of the climate crises were so apparent, the Wimbledon tennis championships were famous for having matches rained off “you English with all your rain; we have sun all summer hahaha!”

Yes, having arthritis is no picnic. I've got psoriatic arthritis and osteoarthritis, and being in cold environment makes it feel unbearable. I seem to have been glued to a hot water bottle as well these past few days! I'm so behind on a couple of reports I need to write as my fingers are seizing up, along with my brain. Voice dictation only gets me so far - I much prefer to type things myself.

RA is a big deal and I wish you well Flowers I'm on Adalimumab which seems to not be working as well any more for me, sadly.

the80sweregreat · 06/06/2026 13:08

Heatwave is imminent op. It goes like this in early June. I know it’s crazy. I hate it too hot.

NimbleHiker · 06/06/2026 13:45

I haven't put the heating on but i am wearing another layer. I must admit that i don't like it when it is 30 degrees. I just want a nice sunny day where it is 20 degrees. I just feel like we rarely get anything in the middle. It either feels like winter or it is far too hot.

InconsequentialFerret · 06/06/2026 13:47

I stayed in bed, too.

After jumping out quickly to stick the heating on for a couple of hours!

It was 15C on the landing, but my bedroom window was open and the cold wind was whipping in, so a bit colder.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 06/06/2026 13:48

Obviously I am fine with the weather

But it just means it'll be hot in September and October

Get the summer over with i say

Oooooh, I can't wait. Grin

Funny you should say this about early June, I have been to 2 weddings in early June in the past 10 years and it has been quite chilly - like 13-14C...

Yes, anything over 30C is a bit much. And even 25-26C is difficult to cope with when it's very humid!

Gone cold again! Going to be a windchill of 4C here overnight! Shock

I will put my candlewick bedspread over the duvet! Heating will stay off!

I was on adalimumab for a time, but it stopped working, had Baricitinib for a while, which didn’t either. Now on Rituximab infusions and that’s been good. It’s brutal treatment but worth it.

Edited

I got drenched walking the dogs today - had to put heating on for a quick blast after I got back as was so cold. Now in bed with a hot water bottle! Bonkers weather.

I remember those summers. 1976 was my O'Level year.

Regarding Wimbledon, I think it's rained off less now due to the retractable roof.

Getting back to the thread topic, we never turn the heating off. It's set at 15 and was on this morning and evening.

tillyandmilly · 06/06/2026 23:19

I am happy with the cooker weather! nice and cool and all the fridges are now working in marks and Spencer as opposed when we had that heatwave- I don’t want that to happen again!

That’s interesting. I have RA and PsA and they’re very much better in cold rather than warm weather. However there might also be a link with air pressure that I don’t have the brains or observational savvy to have noticed.
