The storm has arrived. Looking out to sea and it's quite dramatic.

BIossomtoes · 27/05/2026 19:46

Unsurprisingly. It’s a real indicator of how far away from Labour principles Blair’s moved when all the Tories are fan girling him.

What a difference a few miles make!

Last night we had a lot of rumbling and a short sharp thundery shower, just a few minutes of welcome but not excessive rain, but a few miles away in Northamptonshire they had flash floods.

Piggywaspushed · 27/05/2026 20:23

There were HUGE puddles in Beds too! Flood by the big Sainsbury's.

DuncinToffee · 27/05/2026 20:23

No sign of rain here.

And here I am 20 odd miles east and not a spot!

Notonthestairs · 27/05/2026 20:26

We had an evening of thunder and lightning and zero rain.
Quite Reform-esque.

Efacsen · 27/05/2026 21:09

The humidity has shot up this evening so even tho' the outside temperature has dropped it still feels as hot as ever

Not a cloud. Not a drop of rain

BestIsWest · 27/05/2026 21:53

A few flashes and rumbles and a brief shower here. Obviously after I’d watered the garden.

In a somewhat more heartwarming story, Durham's Reform council cut all funding to Durham Pride so that it would have to cancel. The Trades Unions were not having it so led fundraisers and now Durham Pride will go ahead. With even more funding. Solidarity, comrades.

Even though there are aspects to Pride I'm uneasy with (a parade of guys in fetish wear, walking down from the rail station is something I don't particularly want to see again) I was quite pissed off with the council for trying to scupper Pride. I am tempted to sneak into Cunty Hall and dress one of the cardboard cutout Farages in a risqué pvc number, mind.

I'm waiting for them to try to find a way of stopping the Miners' Gala. If they can't join them, they'll beat them.

BIossomtoes · 27/05/2026 22:13

Do it @PickAChew! Lots of pictures for social media.

They'd obviously had a lot of rain yesterday morning too when I went about 11. Again I'd heard the rumbling but we didn't have a drop.

Justanothernamele · 28/05/2026 06:07

Thunder and poured down around 2.30 this morning <insomniac and not looking forward to work starting at 10am and ending at 6pm.>

placemats · 28/05/2026 06:15

The thunder clap woke me up around the same time @Justanothernamele I love the sound. The lightning was both sheet and forked. It was quite the spectacle.

Edited

So in Sheffield Raise the Colours have organised their ‘Family Fun Day’ on the same day as the Orgreave Anniversary March and Rally. I doubt our local group could find their ass with both hands, a mirror and a map, so they are clearly being driven/organised from elsewhere - I believe they’re expecting the current leader of this group.

I think to do it in this day is to encourage violence - it’s abhorrent it was allowed on that date - the starting points are really not that separate either.

If anyone is interested the day isn’t called Family Fun Day but is being advertised as such (barring my better spelling!). Anyway, it includes meeting in the Peace Gardens (I don’t know if they’ve heard of irony) to wave flags and shout and then take a pleasant flag waving March to the hotel that houses asylum claimants to stand outside and shout at them.

To note this is not my personal definition of Family Fun - I will be there countering this. I do actually feel for any shoppers and am a bit irritated when Sheffield has enough work to do to get folk back to the centre.

PickAChew · 28/05/2026 07:37

I wonder if any of them will find time for a quick murder on their way to their family fun day.

Our bus up to Stanley took us past a house entirely draped in flags, yesterday. It's right opposite a massive park and nature reserve. The pokestops we spin there include a war memorial, some reflecting on calm and mental health, celebrations of biodiversity and this one. Obviously the squirrel felt the need to say it and it does make it sound like a less than pleasant place to tale a quiet stroll.

My tax, Vermeer’s Girl With The Pearl Earring will be shown in Osaka, later this year, and this was the press conference.

I’m really surprised that the Raise the Flags march has been authorised on the same day as the Orgreave Anniversary march @MsJinks. It’s so obviously provocative. Sheffield police must be absolutely dreading it.

dontcallmelen · 28/05/2026 08:46

not a sniff of rain or thunder at the moment it’s 26deg at the moment climbing to 30deg apparently this afternoon @BestIsWest tears were shed during the film mine included.

We’ve had massive thunderstorms here, @dontcallmelen. Yet whilst they were going on they weirdly didn't show on the Met Office weather app. 🤣

dontcallmelen · 28/05/2026 09:05

That’s so odd @LizzieW1969 you must be living in uncharted territory.

Another warm 30c sunny day here.

Incredible lightning here in Swansea last night. I’ve never seen anything like it in this country. It went on for ages. I had a 13kg dog shivering on top of me for most of it.
