Not a sniff of rain in Sarf Lunnun. It did, though - thankfully - cool down quite considerably, with a very fresh breeze. But temperature already rising.

We're off to a wedding this afternoon. Thankfully it's 'smart casual' so no need for overly formal dress/shoes.

dontcallmelen · 28/05/2026 09:26

Enjoy Biwi I love weddings.

PickAChew · 28/05/2026 09:32

Plenty of rain up here and we've done nothing to deserve it. I'll be wearing my coat again, this morning. At least I've persuaded DS2 to make his morning outing one with as little outdoors as possible so we can dodge the heavy showers.

Reposted from the previous thread,

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2026/may/27/nigel-farage-phone-hacking-claims

Report ‘phone hack’ to police or I will do it for you, Labour chair tells Farage

Anna Turley gives Reform leader 24 hours to report Russian hacking claim in ‘public and national interest’

That merely opens the door for Farage to bang on about not trusting the elite. Which the MSM will lap up.

SerendipityJane · 28/05/2026 10:18

Brum was hit with thunder and lightening for a couple of hours. Can't recall the last time we had such a prolonged intense storm. Beautifully epic - happy God spared me to see it. Makes up for the more profane shitshow on earth 😃

SerendipityJane · 28/05/2026 10:45

Wind and solar power making up over 60% of our electricity today.

Fuck you Trump.

LizzieW1969 · 28/05/2026 10:50

dontcallmelen · 28/05/2026 09:05

That’s so odd @LizzieW1969 you must be living in uncharted territory.

It would be strange if that were the case seeing as we live in Leeds! But yes, it feel that way!

The thunderstorms were just like the ones in Brum, @SerendipityJane!

🤣🤣

Have a lovely time at the wedding @BIWI .

Random musings here , if Andy Burnham wins does he have to challenge Sir Keir?
I am thinking a new role could possibly be created.
I would really like to have stability for a while.
I am a born optimist though.

It is still very hot here.

Farage got his own 'elite experts' on espionage security to look at his phone. He's painted himself into a corner. But far from being an idiot or stupid, he's little Jack Horner.

pointythings · 28/05/2026 11:21

No thunder here. It's warming up but not quickly, and there's a good breeze. Slept much better last night.

I’m really surprised that the Raise the Flags march has been authorised on the same day as the Orgreave Anniversary march @MsJinks. It’s so obviously provocative. Sheffield police must be absolutely dreading it.

All the various organisations are and letters have been sent in.
It’s clearly provocative and they’re also ensuring they will be very heavily outnumbered- but they’re sending some big guns of the raise the colours down - I understand it’s to literally ensure high tension ‘fight for Britain’

However, I’m thinking, and hoping, they’ve overstepped and misunderstood stuff here - the mining communities remain angry and disaffected and committed to justice for Orgreave - if raise the colours piss them off then they’re potentially losing some recent voters.

And believe me these communities will always back the miners - I do know it’s understood quite differently dahn sarf, and amongst certain demographics here of course - but I’m surprised the group are so oblivious to the toxicity they are bringing to a massive community/many communities movement.

I can remember Jack Dromey remembering how roughie toughie northern workers travelled down to support the Grunwick strikers - who were predominantly immigrant Asian women.

Farage still hasnt been able to provide a reason for the £5 million payment.

It's weeks now and no clear answers.

If this had been any other politician the Mail/Telegraph/Times would have wall to wall coverage every day until an investigation was launched.

And then there would be a deep dive in to the cars/houses owned by the politician, any previous relationships and a list of their last five holidays.

After that there would be profiles of everyone involved in the investigation - with at least one reference to Sue Grey - and an expose of the private schools their kids attend and the cost of their houses etc.

Weird lack of engagement from certain media quarters.

Karistyleaftea · 28/05/2026 13:07

I could not agree with you more @Notonthestairs .

Exactly

And the 'Russian hacking' is a useful distraction

I thought he said it was for Brexit, after he changed his mind about it being to pay for his security.

Farage is too busy writing to the Charity Commission to whine about Robert Kenyon being exposed to worry about his spare £5 million.

Piggywaspushed · 28/05/2026 14:07

Never sure about stuff that comes from CSJ...

I agree with that.

Their numbers are being used by different media outlets even when Milburn already said migrants are not blame.

It just makes one wonder what happened at that time....

Good thing there are plenty of people around to remind him.
