If you had a 'spare' £400k, which lavish but mundane items would you buy?

I've got the £100 pencil sharpener and the £2000 salt and pepper shakers and I'm eying up the gold plated toilet brush holder for £1480

https://www.harrods.com/en-gb/p/zodiac-cylinder-gold-plated-toilet-brush-holder-000000000001590094

But I've still got quite a lot of money left over. What should I get?

Probably a Karcher power washer. It's one of those things you don't actually need

DH has one to help him clean my car. (Don't keep a dog & bark yourself.)

I want a kitchen aid because they look so nice. But I never bake and have not much desire to. Only another £399500 left. I might have a huge pink diamond ring. They're very expensive. An orangery sounds nice too. I can see how you could get hooked on spending. Even if it's other folks money.

What the hell? £19k on a diamond toothbrush and it isn't even electric? I have to brush my own teeth??

Ooh, a Thermomix. And I see on the website they also do a vacuuming system. Add on a few accessories and you've got an easy £3k on what looks like a nondescript cordless vacuum cleaner and a blender.

I’d walk into the local jewelry shop, announce ‘I’ve got the money’ and buy the most expensive thing in the shop. I think shop staff would be very impressed

You might just have enough left for a couple of his 'n' hers washing up bowls.

What does an all singing all dancing kettle do that's not just boil the water?

Digital ones that can heat the water to any temperature you set it to, have a keep warm function so if you forget you boiled it, it's still hot to make your brew, control it via an app so you can set it to boil when on way home / before you come downstairs. And a few light up different colours so just look super pretty 😂

I'd have damp proofing done, new windows and decorating. Nope, dh wouldn't notice a thing.(as he is totally oblivious to everything.
At least he bought some serious stationery related stuff.

Art
Gold bars
A couple of boxes of Neuhaus chocolates
Opera tickets
Fortnight & Masons hamper

I thought you meant these... You could get 268,456 packs and still have change.

I know. Absolutely appalling isn’t it.

I think £400,000 MIGHT just clear my Amazon wishlist of all the books I want

Errolwasahero · Yesterday 13:32

A new pair of socks for every day.

Jaxhog · Yesterday 13:32

Another few trips to Antarctica, but in a decent cabin this time. I'm slightly obsessed with Penguins.

At the height of his fame Craig David did this and I honestly respect it as a choice.

I’d pay off my mortgage - that’s mundane, right? 😁

I’d also get the work done, which we need doing in the house. A fancy new staircase, which will suit my Victorian terraced, plus hardwood parquet flooring in the lounge.

I’d love a Ninja slushie, a new mattress and a tub of Ben and Jerry’s too. 😄

BashfulClam · Yesterday 13:39

2 Dyson hairdryers even if only one person in the house has hair…very short hair at that.

Education is never wasted. I think I'd sign up to do gcse Biology.

Thanks to the MNetter who PM'd me offering private tuition for £40 ph. Very kind.

That Ostrish is horrible. The price tag is just insane.

I think this thread has shown that you can spend a lot of money in stuff that looks like it cost about a fiver, at a car boot sale, 😀

I like the idea of a Whisky decanter, engraved with ‘from the people of Scotland’

I’d probably get a load of custom made clothes. My DH would have no idea how much any of it was worth, and he already thinks I buy too many clothes so I don’t think he’d notice at all.

Bjorkdidit · Yesterday 14:15

But it's (just about) life size, so might be noticeable by even the most unobservant spouse.

Iliketulips · Yesterday 14:16

Right now, a couple of air con units!

Oh that's a good one! You could probably employ a seamstress for a few years. I liked a pp idea of getting their curtains quietly replaced, a good seamstress could do that, also loose covers!
