I don't, but sometimes seemingly "bad" things happen, which turn out to be for the best.

Nitgel · 23/05/2026 21:11

😂 that's funny. But yes otherwise you would forever be in despair.

Tryanalogue · 23/05/2026 21:11

When one door shuts, another one closes.

TFImBackIn · 23/05/2026 21:12

When one door shuts you have to shove hard at a number of other doors and eventually one will open.

bakingsodar · 23/05/2026 21:13

Depends what is your destiny. If God has a new man for you, yes. If you are old and He has not got another man, then no. Same for jobs ...i am now between jobs and thinking ....do I have a new job soon, Lord

double0seven · 23/05/2026 21:16

Yes, but the door may not open into a better room. Frying pan, fire and all that

Giraffeandthedog · 23/05/2026 21:19

Yes but from a purely practical perspective. While you are perusing the original opportunity you are not looking for others. When it doesn’t work out you are more open to other opportunities and so you see them.

TofuTuesday · 23/05/2026 21:35

No it’s comforting bollocks

Nottopanic · 23/05/2026 21:42

It doesn’t necessarily open into something good, though.

mondaytosunday · 23/05/2026 23:31

No. I also don’t believe ‘things happen for a reason’ or ‘everything turns out for the best ’ ‘what’s meant for you won’t pass you by’. Bollocks.

KojaksLollipop · 23/05/2026 23:35

I do not believe in fate, not in the slightest. But when one thing comes to an end you just get on with life and do the next thing.

margegunderson · 23/05/2026 23:36

Of course not. But it might make you look around at other options - or doors - which you might not have otherwise considered

Bumply · 23/05/2026 23:38

I don’t so much believe in fate as use it as vague comfort when something doesn’t go the way I hoped like in job hunting.

VintedQ · 23/05/2026 23:39

Sometimes doors open and sometimes doors close.

Sometimes one has a somewhat causative effect on the other (first home purchase falls through, which causes you to carry on looking and find a better home) and sometimes they're entirely independent (job interview falls through, has no effect on other interviews).

mumofoneAloneandwell · 23/05/2026 23:39

Yeah i think I do x

Everything for a reason

SaraOnSaturday · 23/05/2026 23:44

I believe it. Some of the best things have happened to me when I least expected it!

To an extent, hundreds of 'Sliding Doors' moments must happen every day anyway! Watch that film!

Dontlletmedownbruce · 23/05/2026 23:45

No I don't believe it really, and agree with PP who say it's a practical thing. If plan A collapses, unless you drop dead at that moment, your life has to take a different path, so in hindsight it seems like a door opened when in fact that door was there all along it was just a shit door you didn't want to go through because you really wanted to go through the first one.

I have had situations when I'm glad things didn't go as I initially wanted. Thank god for your unanswered prayers is another way of phrasing it. I think most people have moments like this in their lives

KnittyKnotty · 23/05/2026 23:51

Only in hindsight, when a door closes you have no option but to continue, life goes on as they say.

Whatever path you take from then on will eventually be your door opened.

I always remember as 20 year old desperately wanting a job I had applied for. It was working with disabled people of working age. I got down to the last 2 candidates and didn't get the job. Pretty sure I would have made a lifeling career of it but hey ho. That door firmly closed I eventually found myself with a career in IT. Never thought of it as a door opening kind of thing at the time but it was. I had absolutely no inclination to work in IT in my youth.

JLMA · 23/05/2026 23:55

My grandpa used to say just that.

Wecanbeheroes26 · 24/05/2026 00:01

No.

I also don't believe "everything happens for a reason".

SnowFrogJelly · 24/05/2026 00:31

Only in a draught

YoBetty · 24/05/2026 00:51

'When one door closes, another one slams in your face'.

That's what we say in our family anway. 😏

Dilbertian · 24/05/2026 08:13

No. I believe that ‘doors’ are opening and closing all the time. It’s up to the individual to decide which doors matter, which to go through, and which to open for themselves.
