Do you remove your toothbrushes if you have workmen in the bathroom or am I being paranoid?

We’ve got floor fitters in the bathroom and I moved all the toothbrushes as I always do if men are working in there. DH thinks this is crazily over the top and what do I think they’re going to do with our toothbrushes anyway? Well I don’t want to think about it too much but possibly rub them round their bums and privates is the answer. I told DH that just because it’s not something he would do, there are some very odd men in this world who would get a thrill from doing stuff like that and I would prefer to remove the temptation altogether.

My feelings might be skewed by the fact that we once stayed in a hotel that had a pube in the kettle 🤢

Now you have put the notion in my head, I would absolutely be removing my toothbrush from the bathroom if I had people in to work, especially men.

I hide the toothbrushes if I think a guest will need to use the loo 😂

i can see why!! It’s the mumsnet stance of no toilet brushes - what else can you grab if you need to clean up?!!🤣

CatA27 · 22/05/2026 22:55

Ok, so I was coming here to say you are a bit weird, who would even think of doing something like that? And then I read it to my husband who told me a story about 3 of his friends and now I am traumatised and going forward will be taking my toothbrush to bed to save it from abuse! 😮😫

KatrinaMakestheWaves · 23/05/2026 00:22

This post has me crying with laughter, only because I am so glad I am not the only one who is this crazy 🤣
A friend of mine once came out of my bathroom and informed me she had used my toothbrush to freshen up before the school run, I was mortified! But then I once went round to hers and one of her daughters came out of the bathroom and gave the toothbrush she had in her mouth to her sister and said “your turn”, her four children were sharing one brush 🤦🏻‍♀️

Pinkpony123 · 23/05/2026 12:24

I'd take them out but more because the dust from like the floor and stuff I'd take anything that could potentially get Dusty or in the way when they are working! This is definitely not my thought process how did you get to this idea

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 23/05/2026 12:50

I’d love to know, if you have children, what other bizarre actions your children will grow up thinking are perfectly normal.

upinaballoon · 23/05/2026 13:00

I haven't up to now, but i don't think you're daft to do it, and I may well copy you in the future.
The pubic hair in the kettle might have been merely an escaped bristle from a blusher brush.

Blueuggboots · 23/05/2026 13:06

WTAF??! Why do you think that???

i only clicked on this thread to find out what sort of batshittery was involved…

and I was not disappointed

Best giggle of the week.

Sprogonthetyne · 23/05/2026 14:19

Well, your reasoning is absolutely bat shit, but moving the toothbrushes so they don't get construction dust on them or accidentally knocked off the counter if the workmen put tools there, would be a relatively normal.

Whyamiherenow · 23/05/2026 18:57

We don’t keep our toothbrushes in the bathroom. Not ever. I’ve always found keeping something that goes in your mouth near where you go toilet odd tbh.

Usernamenotav · 23/05/2026 19:06

People tend to judge others by their own standards. Remember that!

AquaShark · 23/05/2026 21:07

I would probably move personal items due to dust / dirt / space / privacy but have never worried about workman inappropriately using my personal items

mondaytosunday · 23/05/2026 23:39

You are completely out of your mind! I would remove them as world is dusty and they might get knocked over but it would never cross my mind that they would do anything like what you suggest (unless you severely piss them off then they might dunk them in the toilet).
