Do you remove your toothbrushes if you have workmen in the bathroom or am I being paranoid?

We’ve got floor fitters in the bathroom and I moved all the toothbrushes as I always do if men are working in there. DH thinks this is crazily over the top and what do I think they’re going to do with our toothbrushes anyway? Well I don’t want to think about it too much but possibly rub them round their bums and privates is the answer. I told DH that just because it’s not something he would do, there are some very odd men in this world who would get a thrill from doing stuff like that and I would prefer to remove the temptation altogether.

My feelings might be skewed by the fact that we once stayed in a hotel that had a pube in the kettle 🤢

It's common knowledge that men only become bathroom fitters, plumbers, etc, to have easy access to random toothbrushes so that they can indulge in their vile sexual practices and acts of petty revenge.

Daftypants · 22/05/2026 13:07

I’d put my toothbrush away because they won’t necessarily close the lid when they flush the loo .
no other reason

ForestHare · 22/05/2026 13:08

I hide my toothbrush from my dh because he's a clumsy fecker who will either use my one by mistake (yeuk), knock it off the shelf onto the floor (yeuk), or forget to close the lid before flushing (double yeuk).

I've never considered him using it as an anal flosser before though! There are some very strange people about though so no harm.

Also...dust

dontdillydallytoolong · 22/05/2026 13:09

I think your mind works in such a strange way! Why would this even occur to you? They are respectable tradesman. How judgmental. Would you hide your toothbrushes if a doctor wanted to wash his hands in your bathrooom?

costafortunum · 22/05/2026 13:11

I feel sorry for the majority of you and all the bum and privates germs you must have ingested over the years due to your trusting (naive?) natures.

Here’s one of those non-existent workmen who do disgusting things in people’s homes for no reason other than a sick thrill.

I’m not showing DH this thread and I’m going to keep hiding my toothbrush when unknown men are around, just in case.

OP posts:
Renataz · 22/05/2026 13:14

i hide mine when anyone is in not just workies!

Iriseee · 22/05/2026 13:16

First it was spiders rubbing their willies on the laundry, now it's builders rubbing their willies on the toothbrushes ! I was so innocent before I joined MN.

Giraffeandthedog · 22/05/2026 13:17

It would never have occurred to me until I read a couple of MN threads, one where the OP was complaining about her DH and then just casually dropped in that she had got her own back by sticking his toothbrush in the loo, and then another where I think someone’s DH had told them they got even with their boss by doing something nasty to their toothbrush.

pinkspeakers · 22/05/2026 13:18

Depedning on what they are doing in the bathroom, I might move them and other things because of potential dust. But definitely not because I think the might do something inappropriate with the toothbrushes themselves!

What about other visitors to the house? Do you need to hide the toothbrushes from them? Any other household items?

CowTown · 22/05/2026 13:19

I only have a small sample size to go by, but all of the tradespeople who have ever been on my toilet leave the lid up. Because of this, I remove anything that I don’t want the microscopic droplets from open flushing to settle on. Not because I’m worried that they’ll rub anything in their bum crack.

Yellowpapersun · 22/05/2026 13:20

Our toothbrushes are kept in the bathroom cabinet but it wouldn't occur to me that anyone would do anything weird with them.
I agree with you about hotel kettles, I never use those. I've heard too many disgusting stories.

Blarn · 22/05/2026 13:23

I'm wondering if they queue up and take it in turns or just select a toothbrush and do it as a group, like a team-building exercise.

AgnesX · 22/05/2026 13:23

If workmen are working in the bathroom I remove everything apart from loo roll.

Just so nothing gets dirty/dusty.

BertieBotts · 22/05/2026 13:31

This is a completely bizarre worry.

I believe you that it probably does exist as a fetish, because, well, everything is somebody's fetish but it is surely an extremely rare one. I'd have thought that if it was relatively common, then you'd come across people having reported that they had caught their ex or someone else doing it at some point, but I've never seen or heard this.

Do you remove them when you have a male visitor to the house as well? I would have thought that most men if they have a fetish to put some stranger's stuff on their bits would probably avoid doing it at work in case they got caught, whereas they might be more likely to do it when visiting a friend/family member.

Come to think of it if there is a fetish to rub your bits on someone's stuff why toothbrushes specifically? Why not teaspoons or hairbrushes or pens or phone chargers or any number of random items which might be lying around the house?

abathofmilkwithladydi · 22/05/2026 13:31

You are completely batshit, OP. But, you know that.

DoloresDelEriba · 22/05/2026 13:33

CornishPorsche · 22/05/2026 11:45

You're batshit tbh.

First post nails it, as ever.

RaraRachael · 22/05/2026 13:35

Wouldn't enter my head to remove toothbrushes if I had workmen, nor that they were going to use them for purposes described by the OP 🙄

Ednaelias · 22/05/2026 13:36

I remember a French and Saunders clip when they were working as chambermaids and they were using the toothbrushes that guests had left in the bathroom room to clean the toilets. This was many years ago now but I always hide my toothbrush as a result of this clip.

Whereland · 22/05/2026 13:37

Good god are you ok?

Wickedlittledancer · 22/05/2026 13:38

What am I even reading, how do you get through life when you’re so paranoid,

MummySleepDeprived · 22/05/2026 13:39

I wouldn't remove but then have the same intrusive thoughts as you. 😅

stichguru · 22/05/2026 13:40

I'd remove toothbrushes in case the work made dust. As for the other things, you really need proper psychological help OP.

SleepingStandingUp · 22/05/2026 13:41

do you scrub the entire bathroom once they leave? they might have wanked in your sink, rubber their penis over the shower head, licked the door handles, dried their penis on your towel, rubbed their bum cheeks on your shower curtain etc.

and why workmen but not other people? if a friend needed to use your loo, do you run up first to remove your brushes?

yes, yabr and u and s

BertieBotts · 22/05/2026 13:41

Weeing into a non-toilet receptacle is not unheard of among tradespeople (I've heard that they sometimes get told to avoid using customers' toilets and so they get caught short) although tipping it into a water tank is really grim. I suppose he assumed it was a tank to feed a heating system or something and so nobody would notice. Hot water tanks in attics are not usually for drinking water.

This seems very different to rubbing someone's toothbrush on your bits.

SleepingStandingUp · 22/05/2026 13:42

so why let them in your home if you think they're like this? I wouldn't let someone into my home if I assumed they were going to shove my tooth rush up their bum! just do the work yourself. Google is your friend.
