Do you remove your toothbrushes if you have workmen in the bathroom or am I being paranoid?

We’ve got floor fitters in the bathroom and I moved all the toothbrushes as I always do if men are working in there. DH thinks this is crazily over the top and what do I think they’re going to do with our toothbrushes anyway? Well I don’t want to think about it too much but possibly rub them round their bums and privates is the answer. I told DH that just because it’s not something he would do, there are some very odd men in this world who would get a thrill from doing stuff like that and I would prefer to remove the temptation altogether.

My feelings might be skewed by the fact that we once stayed in a hotel that had a pube in the kettle 🤢

I might be worried dust and debris getting on them. Most workmen are perfectly nice ordinary people. I guess you don't eat out much, who knows what they do to the food in restaurant kitchens...

What kind of deprived mind comes up with that scenario?! I think the builders need to be worried about you!

There's been stories on news and on TV programes of people taking 'little revenge' on others or having sick fetishes.

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 22/05/2026 12:12

Most of the men in my family are trades men and they would never do this because it’s unprofessional and weird. When they’re at your house they’re at work. Tradesmen are sometimes laddish and can be a bit rowdy - when my dads on a job with my brother they definitely have fun and sometimes have been known to take a few too many smoke breaks, but that’s the extent of it. You have a very low and skewed opinion of tradesmen and you should think about why you feel like that. Bad experiences? Prejudice?

yonem · 22/05/2026 12:14

Move if there was going to be dust yes, but for this? No. Don’t they have the door open when they’re working anyway?

ChocolateAddictAlways · 22/05/2026 12:14

👀🍿

Bristolandlazy · 22/05/2026 12:15

Ha ha ha, brilliant

Laurmolonlabe · 22/05/2026 12:30

Definitely paranoid- why would they touch your toothbrushes?

FedBeGone · 22/05/2026 12:34

When I saw the title I was composing a sarcastic reply in my head along the lines of "do you think they are rubbing them on their arses?", then read the OP and realised that they actually do think that.

Insane!

Lomonald · 22/05/2026 12:35

Dh used to be a bathroom fitter including floors ill ask him if he scratched his arse with toothbrushes and get back to you @costafortunum

i only clicked on this thread to find out what sort of batshittery was involved…

and I was not disappointed

Tonissister · 22/05/2026 12:36

I'd remove everything to avoid getting dust or unsafe chemical particles on toothbrushes, facecloths etc.

KnickerlessParsons · 22/05/2026 12:03

Just how often do you have men working in your bathroom if this is something you “always do”?

i
I don’t think we’ve ever had men working in our bathroom.

We've had a plumber to fix a toilet cistern but that was so quick he wouldn't have had time to get up to anything and it would never have occurred to me. When we had the bathroom completely refitted I removed everything anyway.

Well this is what, I thought the Op was going to say 😳

NewGoldFox · 22/05/2026 12:41

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility so crack on op. If it gives you peace of mind what’s the harm?

didalittlenamechange · 22/05/2026 12:46

Do you do it when your male family members and friends come over, too?

Because I hate to put the extra layer of this in your head, but men are men are men, and all of the "very odd men in this world who would get a thrill from doing stuff like that" are related to someone...

JustAboutMuddlingThrough · 22/05/2026 12:49

Err no!! Then again my toothbrush lives in the cupboard

girliepop · 22/05/2026 12:52

Gosh I wish this was top of my worry list!

Waitingfordoggo · 22/05/2026 12:55

This thought wouldn’t have occurred to me but you’re not wrong that there are a lot of very fucking weird men in the world. At least one of them probably would do or has done this, just because they can.

But on balance, it’s very unlikely- I probably wouldn’t hide my brushes.

Is this your thinking OP?

hugasaurus · 22/05/2026 12:58

😂😂😂

What makes you think they would want your grotty mouth germs around their genitals?!

Twizzlelolly · 22/05/2026 12:59

I’m in fits of laughter 😂

But, I also sometimes get these random intrusive thoughts sometimes.

Not sure if it’s normal or a type of OCD thing

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 22/05/2026 13:01

Wtf. Recently we had work done and there was dust everywhere in the bathroom. I had to replace all the heads. I would move them for that reason but as for what you’re saying. That’s mad

Heylittlesongbird · 22/05/2026 13:02

So weird!

I would remove the stuff from the bathroom, to give them a clear area to work in. Also, then I'd be able to take the stuff back in without having to dust it all off earlier.

Not because I suspect nefarious toothbrush behaviour.

Now I feel bad, because maybe any workmen I have will think I don't trust them!

SnappyUmberLion · 22/05/2026 13:04

Yet more tedious misandry.

luckylavender · 22/05/2026 13:05

TheyGrewUp · 22/05/2026 11:50

Well I'd probably remove them due to potential dust.
