80s TV Theme Tunes….warning..may contain earworms.

After doing a quiz about 80s TV on YouTube I’ve ended up with an earworm that I just can’t shake. Every time I stop consciously thinking about other stuff up it pops, sometimes aloud 🙄. Anyone else got a TV theme tune earworm that they’d like to share?

I might jump an open drawbridge,
Or Tarzan from a vine,
Cause I’m the unknown stuntman
That makes Eastwood look so fine

I love an 80s theme tune - namely kid's TV shows.

It wasn't enough that it was the best era for pop music - even the TV themes were amazing.

"You can run with us
We've got everything you need
Run with us, we are free"

MamaBobo · 21/05/2026 15:57

I must be a bit older than you @Bedheadbeachbum ! I had to look that up…I sadly missed out on the Raccoons! Growing up in the 70s it seemed to be a near continuous loop of Mr Benn and Bagpuss with odd episodes of Trumpton and Camberwick Green. A couple of fantastic theme songs there too!

You can knock it
you can rock it
you can go to Timbuktu
but you’ll never find a Nessie in the zoo!

Toblerone, out on its own
Triangular chocolate, that's Toblerone.

Just checked and this was actually the 90s. Still one of my favourite adverts (and chocolate bars).

Is that family Ness?
🎶 mactoot blows on the bagpipes…🎶
something something
🎶Ferocious-Ness appears at once,
And grabs a note or two for lunch,🎶

Blue Peter's poor relation.
And now I've got the Blue Peter theme.

There's a voice that keeps on calling me
Down the road, that's where I'll always be
Every stop I make, I make a new friend
Can't stay for long, just turn around
And I'm gone again..70s into 80s..

Round the twist
Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds

Two of the best

MamaBobo · 21/05/2026 18:19

The Littlest Hobo! I always felt sad listening to the theme tune! And Rentaghost…loved that…it was a classic! The Tomorrow People…a bit spooky!

Have you ever, ever felt like this, when strange things happen, are you going round the twist…that’s a blast from the past.

And Dogtanian…he was mentioned a lot on a thread about crushes on cartoon characters the other day. A very catchy theme.

Eighty days around the world,
we'll find a pot of gold,
just sitting where the rainbow's ending,
time - we'll fight against the time,
and we'll fly on the
white wings of the wind.
Eighty days around the world,
though we won't say a word,
before the ship is really back...
Round, round, all around the world,
Round, all around the world.
Round, all around the world,
Round, all around the world!

Dogtanian and Eighty Days Around The World immediately transported me to after school in my parents’ living room on autumn/winter days, often with an after school snack and feeling that cosy winter contentment.

I would add Rainbow and Grange Hill to the list. Also just remembered Chock A Block.

Curlygirl06 · 22/05/2026 23:04

My children, (now in their 30's) used to love Balamory. I did too, knew most of the song. My grandson watched it briefly but there was a dispute between BBC Scotland and BBC England and it was only shown for a while. They've just started it again, with some new characters and Miss Hooley and PC Plum (?)still there. 30 odd years on and I still remember the words! I'm so proud.

It's not much of a life when you're just a pretty face
Just to be whoever you are is no disgrace
Don't be scared if you don't fit in
Look who's in the reject bin!

Raggy dolls theme tune

Just realised the theme tune is not as positive as I thought- reject bin!? 🤔

Raggydolls, raggydolls, dolls like you and me
Raggydolls, raggydolls made imperfectly
So if you're not at ease with your knobbly knees and your fingers are all thumbs
Stand on your two left feet and join our raggydoll chums.

Jamie and his magic torch ( “Wordswuuurth, Wordswuuuurth, no two nights are the same…”)
Storybook International (“I’m a storyteller, and my story shall be sung. In Germany I’m Johann; in England I am John”)
Why Don’t You
Number 73
The A Team
Knight Rider
I used to adore the Littlest Hobo!

Meredusoleil · 23/05/2026 05:33

Loved The Fall Guy, Dogtanian, The A-Team and Hawaii 5-0 theme tunes.

Also, does anyone remember a cartoon called The Mysterious Cities of Gold or a theme tune with those words in it? I used to love that one. Oh and Inspector Gadget too!

Meredusoleil · 23/05/2026 05:34

Omg! How could I forget Knight Rider. What an absolute classic 👏 Had a massive crush on David Hasselholf in those days and thought KIT was just the coolest car ever 😎
