Omaze Surrey house

What do we think, Omazers? This one is much more to my taste than the usual glass boxy ones. I don't know how remote it is, but if it's walking distance to s centre of some sort I would happily live there. It's a long way from home though, so maybe I'd have a year or so then sell it, move home and give the money to my adult children.

It says it’s within 2.9 miles of Godalming station so I don’t think it’s really remote but doubt it’s walking distance to shops either

it’s also huge …6 bedrooms is a lot for the majority of people and going to eat through the cash part of the prize in no time just heating the place etx

I really wish they’d do different locations - they’ve done Surrey loads of times! But never places like Northumberland

beasmithwentworth · 21/05/2026 09:02

I don’t think I’d keep any house I’d won anyway…. I have been subscribing for a year now and started off all hopeful (not about winning the house really as it really is a lottery isn’t it?) but there are loads of smaller prizes too. Now I barely pay it any attention! There has probably been a thread on this already but has anyone who enters the Omaze draw on Mumsnet ever won anything at all?

bellacat1 · 21/05/2026 09:07

Morning. Anyone worked out an exact location as yet?

ShyMaryEllen · 21/05/2026 09:10

I don't think so, but I don't know that I would say if I won.

I subscribe, and love looking at the houses and planning what I would do with the house if I won. In reality, I would sell most of them and split the proceeds between us and each of the children, but I'd have a year or so in some of them, just for a change of scene and a long holiday. I like this one a lot - but yes, it's too big for two of us, and I have zero need for a swimming pool, tennis court or stables. It would have been great when the children were at home, but it's not really a retirement house.

My daughter might like to convert the stables to a boarding kennels though. There'd be plenty of room for her to move in till she got it going. In my dreams about winning, I'm allowed to plan the lives of others, too 😎

Edited

No, i just opened the email about ten minutes ago 😀. It usually takes a couple of days for the location to be known, I think.

£10 Amazon voucher and £15 worth of entries but only when I set up a subscription 😁

CaptainBeefheartspal · 21/05/2026 11:08

It’s beautiful. Do they include all of the furnishings too I wonder?

Is it in a village setting? I don't drive, and wouldn't want to live somewhere I'd need to get taxis to go anywhere.

The postcode is GU8 6AZ. Worth a look at a map.

The village of Shackleford has a well-stocked village shop with a Post Office, the traditional Cyder House Inn, a historic 12th-century church, a highly regarded prep school (Aldro), and a multi-purpose Village Hall, according to Google.

EscapeTheCastle · 21/05/2026 17:10

I really like it. I always look for the problems so I dont waste another 10 quid. Ths time its too close to the A3. Thought I could hear a road in the promotional video.
Oh gosh, love it though. I have bought tickets for omaze in the past but I really dont like the idea have having to do publicity. It gives me the fear.

HostaCentral · 21/05/2026 17:12

Its not Cheryls old pad is it?? I know she had trouble selling it!! Shackleford is pretty remote in Surrey terms, and no, it is not walkable to Godalming or its Station as it is the other side of the A3. Nice area though. Very near me.

HostaCentral · 21/05/2026 17:21

Found it on Google. Best house they have ever had, in my humble opinion. The ground are amazing. Huge. But the very back of the "garden" where the tennis court is, does back on to the A3.

The interiors were so much nicer before the Omaze treatment.

I’m actually thinking of cancelling my Omaze subscription I’ve not won anything and I’m not sure I’d keep the houses anyway!

Actually, contrary to you, I would keep all the houses that have been up recently. Either to live in, Surrey, Cotswolds, and London, or to keep as holiday homes, Cornwall and Lake District.

DilemmaDelilah · 21/05/2026 21:31

This one is right up my street. The kind of house I love in an area I like. If have to make a few changes of course... the gym would become changing rooms and a shower and the tennis court would become an enclosed vegetable garden with raised beds.

Bubblebathbefore8 · 21/05/2026 22:45

It looks awful, don’t buy tickets.

Keepgettingolder81 · 21/05/2026 23:30

I won a lovely tweed picnic blanket this week!

Florally · 21/05/2026 23:34

This is pretty close to me but I’d still sell it if I won… too much money to upkeep.

Nice to daydream though!

Why?

DilemmaDelilah · Yesterday 17:33

@HostaCentral presumably because @Bubblebathbefore8 wants it?
