What would you buy? The weather is set to turn glorious here from Friday onwards and it is also half term. The plan is to get the garden ready, stock up on everything we need and pretend we’re on holiday!

Currently on the list is:

Burgers and Koftas
Pitta
Salads
Feta and Halloumi
ALL the dips
Ice lollies
Crisps
Wine
Chorizo
Fruit, yoghurt and pastries for breakfasts

Sun cream.

Morocca · 19/05/2026 17:34

I’ve just been to Asda and got Cider lollies 😂

And the bbq meats are dated until the end of next week so I’ve grabbed some koftas and pork steaks

low cal ice cream.

There's zero point in eating ice cream if it's low calorie. We don't get many really hot days so you might as well enjoy them properly!

It'd be nice, it's coming down like stair rods here and my heating keeps coming on 🙃🙃

It won't be a heatwave though, just nice and warm.

PloddingAlong21 · 19/05/2026 19:52

Watermelon.

paddling pool (realise you can’t eat that).

gracioushoratio · 19/05/2026 20:05

Aldi do some really rather nice raspberries coated in chocolate in the freezer section.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 19/05/2026 20:08

Sausages

Burger buns and baps etc

Ice poles - lollies are great but poles go down well and take up less space imo

Margarita ingredients!

I've got myself an industrial fan in, and i'm prepping the flat for radio 1's big weekend

Have a great one!

Oh lighten up. 26 degrees is a bloody heatwave compared to what we’ve had so far this year.

I’ll pick up a couple of daiquiris for you 😉

Sounds interesting. I’ll get some

Suncream
Wine
lots of soft drinks
ice lollies and icecream
disposable barbecue for the garden (we don’t have a real one)
I also need to buy myself a hat and some shorts

TheChosenTwo · 20/05/2026 07:52

Water balloons or water pistols if you have kids?
we have weekend plans but will pick up some ice lollies and ice creams for the freezer and some limes for lime and soda.
might even try and recreate the best caiprinha I ever had…

Morocca · 20/05/2026 08:48

Oh wow. That is my favourite cocktail

Dreading it. Not for the nice sunny weather, but all the sodding BBQs. What's with the obsession of BBQs. The foods generally shit and they stink and ruin being outside for everyone else. I just don't to get it. Meanwhile in properly hot countries everyone continues as normal. Eat outside by all means, lovely, but don't smoke everyone else out. Rant over.

Yeah those Aussies hate a barbecue.

What we've had so far is 'spring'.😂

A glorious idea! Our go to hot-weather shopping is:

Meat we can BBQ
Salad
Cous cous
Tomatoes
Asparagus
Burrata
Feta
Mozzarella
Crisps and dips
Olives
Strawberries
Ice lollies
Cans of beer
Cans of lemonade
Pimms

I cannot WAIT to make a shandy or a glass of Pimms, put crisps into a bowl and sit in the garden with my book.

Oh god me too, after a wet and cold winter and beginning of Spring we NEED this heat 🌞

Blossom81 · 21/05/2026 10:26

Thank you for this thread. We’re planning on doing something similar. We’ve had a tough last 18 months and we’re planning on having a holiday at home for a few days.

I’m doing an online food shop to arrive tomorrow and then our holiday will start tomorrow evening.

OP - what’s your plan for the week?

I’d love any other ideas of what any of you would have for breakfasts, lunches, dinners. Preferably fairly easy prep, so we can try to relax/have fun as much as possible. We won’t go over the top, but I’d like to try to make it feel a bit more special than a normal weekend or half term.

Tabarnak · 21/05/2026 10:32

Pimms
Sunscreen
Sangria
A sexy Spanish Waiter
Set your alarm for 5.30 am and dash out and put your towel on your garden furniture

Morocca · 21/05/2026 13:06

My kids like it trying the different juices and drinks at hotel buffets so I try and have a selection in that we wouldn’t normally have.

Chocolate Milk
Tropical Juice
Cranberry Juice

Then a selection of pastries and little mini doughnuts with a big bowl of fruit salad and yoghurt pots and slices of cheese and ham.

Another day we will have a stack of pancakes with blueberries, bacon and maple syrup. All nice and easy to do but not our normal daily breakfast.

Similarly in the afternoon we will put out meze or tapas and a basket of bread and just graze rather than big meals. Feels more like holiday.

Take orders for pizza as if we were in Italy and have a whole unsliced one each with Aperol spritz or San Pellegrino.

Alexa is good for atmosphere. Tell her to play Italian restaurant music or Greek traditional music etc.

Uno and Exploding kittens are a must too. If your local shop or garage has a slushy machine go out and collect large slushies for everyone.

How old are the kids? Get some activities in that mimic a kids club if they’re that age. Mine are older but used to enjoy the T-shirt painting, you can buy packs of white T-shirts on Amazon. Make a kids disco playlist with chu chu ua, the chocolate song and other kids disco classics 😂

I hope you have a great time.

Thank you @Morocca. Lovely ideas. Children are primary age.

Hope you have a good week!

QuestionableMouse · 21/05/2026 17:16

I've been inspired and ordered some picnic bits on my next shop. Forecast is only around 20c here but it should still be nice!

Also of anyone is looking for a fan, the Amazon basics one is amazing and moves a lot of air!
