Why would my height differ between a workplace check and GP measurement?

PerkyOchrePeer · 19/05/2026 00:11

Had body check up at work. They checked height with usual rod and said i was 5 foot 5 and a half. My Gp did it about a month ago and said I was 5 foot 4. I dod use to be 5 foot 6 I dont get why im taller from the work test than my GP A MONTH AGO

Yeah, it's weird people cling on to it. It's so out of date. I have no concept of what stones and pounds mean.

As imperial measures are widely used by the general public, of all ages, maybe it would be a good idea for you to educate yourself so that you can understand what they are talking about.

Or maybe not, just stay in your bubble if you prefer. I doubt anyone else minds.

How odd when most of those how tall are you/ how much do you weigh threads on here are mostly imperial measurements

I still say height in feet and inches. Seems easier to visualise.

Thanks for your concern. I don't feel like not being stuck at least 50 years in the past has held me back in any way. I'm sure the great British public will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I do find it fascinating anyone my age or younger has even been exposed to imperial to any degree. Let alone why they cling to it so hard.

It’s weird. I do my height in feet and inches but my DC height in metric measurement!
I have no idea what I am in metric or DC is in imperial (although could obv hazard a rough guess!).

Well, I'm quite a lot taller than you OP so whether you are 5'4" or 5'6" to me you are still a shortarse.

But no one says ‘I like a man over 185cm’

Yes it does matter. I like being a bit taller than some of the females I interact with. Having said that I used to have a female boss at work who was 6 foot 1

Why? Honest question.

I wonder if they do in France? Or anywhere else.

Mind you I have no idea what DH's height is in any format. He's a bit taller than me. Don't know what that translates to.

Maybe somewhere they give it in mm to make it sound even more impressive!

YoullWishYourLifeAway · 19/05/2026 15:10

GP surgeries have an outside company in annually to check their scales, tape measures, blood pressure machines etc for accuracy, so I’d assume the work one is out or that they made a mistake.

Tall is graceful and some shops have stuff on shelves too high for short people to reach

Maybe being taller also makes it easier to jump the shark.

Measurer rounding up or down, standing up straighter, dehydration (discs in spine).

You aren’t tall either way (even at your ‘tallest’ round up of 5.6) so what difference does it make?

Weird to compare heights in context of workplace adults (it’s not school!).

Well you are fucked then. I’m sorry that you are not very graceful. Poor lamb.

This is probably the funniest/or most batshit thing you've ever said. You must realise being 5ft 4,5 or 6 makes no difference. It's still short.

BlueRidgeMountain · 20/05/2026 19:51

maybe they measured you in metric and did the conversion wrong

'Females'? 🙄

Lamb Shepherd GIF by The Sheep Detectives

To be fair she didn't specify humans. They could be female sheep in which case I'm glad they are smaller.

TotalBaloney · 20/05/2026 22:07

You’re around average height. That’s pretty much all you need to know. You’ll be taller than some women, shorter than others. i doubt you tower over many people.
Im quite a bit taller than you and don’t feel particularly graceful!

TotalBaloney · 20/05/2026 22:07

(Oh and I can use both metric and imperial. I’m clever like that 😉)

I think this happens with police height measurements too and it’s strange! So many males who have been in custody seem to think they are 6ft
