Help me choose where to stay in Blackpool

Wheretostay · 18/05/2026 22:13

Hi was hoping to get some help with staying in Blackpool in the summer.
It will be myself and my 16 year old.
I have never been to Blackpool so don't really know what I'm doing. I dont drive so whilst in Blackpool we will be walking and public transport.

I have booked a room close to Blackpool North Station and North pier. Thats costing me 300 for 3 nights. But I have just come across a room for 164 for 3 nights but its near the south pier they are bith budget hotels. Both have private bathroom. The reason I booked the hotel in Blackpool North wss because it's close to the train station and north pier which is where we are likely to do more stuff.
But is paying 300 worth it or when I can get a room for 164. Im wondering how easy travel/walking is and how safe it is. Im torn between 300 or 164. Money wise 164 makes sense. But im not sure in location..

So has anyone been /know the area?

Ok im going to reply as a whole since replys are simlar.

The reason for blackpool is because of the airshow and the dates. My younger children are away with their dad on them dates. So me abd dd want to go away just me and her. The other air shows dates don't work for us.

Also I don't think my budget is being fully understood. The hotel I have booked is 300 which near north pier. The cheaper one which was 164 was south pier. I asked about the cheaper one because im on a tight budget. I can do the 300 if I really need to if it makes a big difference. But that is my very top budget I can not afford the hotels that people sre suggesting they are 500-600 o can't possibly do that. As long as the hotel is safe and clean I'm not bothered if its a bit out dated. We are nitveven planning on eating there its really just a place to sleep

With the area in general I'm not saying people are wrong i don't know the place so I'm partly guessing. But most of the replies sound like horror story's worst case situations. Like with the drugs people do that where I live. Everyday I see people sitting on steps 40 feet from my house doing drugs . I see them about in my area all the time. I'm in a rough area but im not bothered by it. Probably because that's how its always been. It doesn't have an effect our day today living or stop me doing things. The example of people laying on the floor due to drugs that's 2 people in how many? The news paper about the crimes and how many there were . My has way more than that. If people are choosing to be drunk take drugs does that really have an effect on me and dd? And in the summer wouldn't there be other familys enjoying time alway. Doing normal family things. Regardless of what other people are doing.

You took the bit about 2 people but ignored the 1000% higher than national average crime rate. It has the highest crime rate in the entire UK.

Still comparable to where you live?

Thetimeshop · Yesterday 09:16

Me and DP stayed at the Garnett recently and it was fab. The hosts were great and the gay quarter is notoriously friendly.

Yes, blackpool is a dump. But it is also a lot of fun and has its charms. I am not familiar with the airshow so I don't know when it is, but the hosts are moving to a new hotel in June, and we're going to stay with them again there(I can find out if you are interested)I don't recall specifically how much but it was cheap and a Blackpool B&B is never going to be luxury, but we had everything we needed and they couldn't do enough for us.

I was just mentioning the things that had stayed in my head. But does the crime rate effect me and dd? Is it going to stop us enjoying it.

If you witness or are a victim of it, yes. But regardless, I do hope you have a lovely time.

I do agree with this OP. I mean yes, be careful, close your handbag, don't leave your drink unattended and don't talk to anyone who appears to be off their t1ts on something 😆 but that's common sense everywhere.

We didn't see any crime while we were there (went to see a show at Funny Girls and because DP hadn't ever been so it was a birthday trip. Some people on stag/hen dos who were a bit drunk etc but so what? A lot of pearl clutchers on this thread.

Hope you both have a great time. I will go back to Blackpool 100%.

PolitelyHardNo · Yesterday 09:36

I last went to blackpool 2 years ago for a friends hen do. It was rough but we had a good time and felt safe. Unfortunately I seen some homeless men goading a poor vulnerable homeless woman and I interviened which probably wasnt wise and make sure the woman was ok and sat with her and chatted for a while got her a drink and some food.
There was alot of security around but didnt seem anyone wanted to help her. Broke my heart.
However I have been many times in the day doing "family" things in the past. Like the air show, fireworks etc all been fine. Just have your wits about you!

R.e your budget. If the hotel on south meets your requirements then go for it. The trams are good and its not a long walk just have an across the body bag on and keep to the lit areas!

Haha, whenever there’s a thread on here about Blackpool everyone is horrified and urges the op to stay in that lovely Lytham or Southport. Which is fine unless the event is in Blackpool!

I don’t mind Blackpool. It’s a shithole sure but there’s plenty to do, and if you have young children there’s a beach, ice cream, soft plays and a water park and donkey rides. We went a few years ago and dc1 was only about sixteen months and didn’t care at all that it was a shithole! We stayed in the big blue and it was really nice.

Exactly.
OP:
'Where can I stay in blackpool next weekend on a tight budget please?
Mumsnetters:
'Stay at the Radisson Edwardian in Manchester, It's only £80000 for half a night and there's an airshow there in 6 months' time' 😆

Northermcharn · Yesterday 10:37

I wouldn't mind the tackiness and crapness, everyone likes an ice cream and a portion of chips by the sea (and it Is a sandy beach), however the town is literally filthy.
You can easily get an airbnb from much less than 300 a night in Lytham.
Anyway, enjoy op, whatever you decide 🙂

Shocke · Yesterday 10:38

OP I am getting the beachfront hotel on hotels dot com for £200 and the Beeches for £173 including breakfast. Give them a ring and see if they can beat that rate, they prefer direct bookings so you might get a deal.

Ignore all the posters trying to make you feel shitty about your trip. The air show will be great fun. The streets off the promenade are rough, yes. There are druggies around, yes, but it sounds like you are used to that!

Things to do on a budget are a walk on the prom, obviously, the comedy carpet, the ballroom in the tower, the Spitfire museum but definitely book, a tram ride, 2p slots (coral island is best for tickets), a walk up and down the piers with chips, interesting displays upstairs in the lifeboat shop and a stick of rock on the beach.

Enjoy

One of the worst places I’ve ever been. Only time in my life I’ve seen a dead body.

BringBackTheLight · Yesterday 10:43

Id stay in either Bispham or just past the south pier, the tram runs along if you don't want to walk and both are a bit quieter than the centre

EdinaTheConfessor · Yesterday 10:47

South pier is a good location, you are near the pleasure beach and water park.

We went last year and got a good deal on The Big Blue hotel which included please beach entry.

for those saying don’t go it’s a shit hole, yes it’s not for everyone but there is plenty to do and it’s a laugh, if you like that sort of thing.

x2boys · Yesterday 10:59

Lythem St Annes is much nicer and only a mile or two from Blackpool.

But the OP will be asleep. I’m not ‘getting’ it - not being a dick but I genuinely don’t understand what is to be gained by returning to Lytham st Anne’s to sleep only to return to Blackpool for the air show Confused

You can’t catch poor!

I live in Bolton so have been to Blackpool many many times , Lythem St Annes is only up the road frim Blackpool and is much nicer

I have a soft spot for Blackpool despite uts reputation but only living an hour or so we drive there quite often
Its years since i have stayed there though.

I stay in Blackpool for an event in Lytham!
It's cheaper and perfectly fine.

Its a ten minute drive away and nicer imo.

BringBackTheLight · Yesterday 11:14

Check out Brincliffe Hotel on Booking.com! https://www.booking.com/Share-p9PSUU

I stayed here a couple of years ago, it was fine. Bispham is easily walkable and the tram is just a few minutes

Christ. So you keep saying on repeat. But the OP isn’t driving, the roads will be busy anyway as it’ll be packed for the air show and the school holidays and there’s literally no reason to spend all day at an event in Blackpool then travel to lytham just to sleep

Upandoff · Yesterday 11:22

But that doesn’t address what the point would be? Yes it’s nicer than Blackpool but the event is in Blackpool! It would be different if the op was wondering ‘where should I go for a break in the northwest’ but that’s not the case!

stayed in a b and b close in Blackpool South a couple of years ago. It was on a road near the Blue hotel. Felt perfectly safe coming back to it at night. As other have said the trams run up and down the se front and are not a long walk from either station. Enjoy the air show.

I go to Blackpool every year and love it! People are such snobs
