Two things are puzzling me.

If it's perfectly legitimate and above board to accept a large sum to pay for security, why wouldn't you declare it anyway, just to be on the safe side?

If it was a private gift between two individuals, how has it come to light?

Did he or was it his partner? Somehow the details seem vague as to who bought/owns the house. Nigel has other properties so capital gains may be involved (or not). There may be stories of a couple of payments of 1 million that the press hasn't released yet.
In other news there is the Reform councillor in St. Helens who is an enthusiastic performer in gay porn. Glad to see Reform are inclusive for the Gay community.

It all sounds dodgy AF. Yet nothing seems to stick to Nigel Teflon man. He seems to be far less scrutinised by the the press than Labour or Green MPs. Anyone would think most of the press were right wing billionaire owned or something…

His supporters don't care about the money. He helped Britain with Brexit and he makes the right noises about immigration, Trump etc. If a loyal Englishman who has made a lot of money and happens to live 6000 miles away and wants give Nigel a handout to secure Nigels comfort then who are we to be suspicious.
