What was it when the ceasefire started ? I think about 10% ?

It's a bit like playing monopoly with 10 years olds and needing to go for a pee. " Don't touch anything while I go to the toilet... ok "

RedTagAlan · 01/06/2026 17:40

I think we’ve been talking too much, if you want to know the truth. I think going silent would be very good,

Guess who just said that ?

RedTagAlan · 01/06/2026 18:51

Yeah. I am pretty sure it is airstrikes Netanyahu ordered on Beirut, not a ground invasion.

But you carry on Mr T. Stopping what was not happening anyway. Good to see you are super sharp and on top of it.

Iran announces suspension of direct talks with US ...Trump tells press he didn't know that. So he is definitely not in charge of policy decision making in this arena.🙄

Iran then continues to make Trump look like a fool by exposing US vulnerability in their best in the world military supremacy.

BBC just said that Iran has targetted high value US military items and managed to damage/destroy more that US is admitting.
eg $3B of THAAD system (1B x 3)

And of course, oil price went up again today.

Trump must be the only person in the world who believes that Bibi listens to him. What a delusional buffoon.

Yeah. I noticed that the other day. Iran said they shot down a US drone. Silence from the US. Then the US strike Iran in retaliation for shooting down a US drone.

Is that another THAAD Iran has destroyed ? They hit one in Jordan at the start.

Yup. But even that TRUTH. He says Bibi wont send troops in. But Bibi never said he would send troops in.

Surely the turd can't be so simplistically gullible ?

According to the BBC, they'd hit three! But you know what, no one knows what the hell is true anymore. Apparently Iran changed their tactics from the start of the war, to specifically target high value items.

Trump meanwhile is posting that peace talks are proceeding at a rapid pace.

In a strange way, it's almost like being a flat earther.

We all have to "do our own research" and try to figure out for ourselves what the truth is. Because Trump has no idea what the truth is.

Former UK ambassador to Iran just said that there is no off-ramp for the US in a situation where Iran is insisting on linking Lebanon and the SoH, Trump has no influence on Israel re their actions in Gaza and Lebanon, and the hard liners in Iran are even putting down any internal opposition with executions so they will be able to continue to their policy to hold out against the US.

Iran are likely executing the CIA agents and the protesters he claimed to have armed.... and boasted about.

As ever, potyato, potarto.

However, be careful "chinny reckon" doesn't seep into the US consciousness. Reckon already has

https://notoneoffbritishisms.com/2020/10/06/reckon/

'Reckon' has a long history here, mostly in the South. "I reckon y'all should get out of the rain" or "What do y'all reckon the weather will be tomorrow?".

My BFF was born and raised in Coastal Georgia so 'reckon' has already seeped into my vocabulary along with other words and phrases.

My family is getting confused between the UK slang and certain phrasings I've pick up here and the Southern-isms and certain pronunciations I've pick up from her. lol

logicisall · 01/06/2026 19:53

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the cargo vessel that was hit by two explosions today, (one was by a drone attack) in the Gulf about 40 n/miles south-east of Iraq's Umm Qasr.

I'm betting it was the work of the Americans.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 01/06/2026 19:56

Didn't the southern states consciously continue with UK usages for a while after other parts of the States had given them up to signalise (as Webster did) that they didn't want our steenkin' badges I mean languages?

That I'm not sure of. But I do know that there were a lot of Scots and 'Scots/Irish' who settled in the South in the Colonial Days and that they kept a lot of their culture. That influence is still felt today, especially in parts of Appalachia.

But whether they'd have been loyal to the Crown or not I have no idea.

AcrossthePond55 · 02/06/2026 00:38

Well, tomorrow is (among others) the CA primary for the mid-terms. CA is a 'jungle' primary meaning that the top two vote getters go on the ballot in Nov. There is not a Senate midterm for us this year. The biggies are Governor and House of Representatives.

The numbers are so close in the gubernatorial race that it's impossible to know what will happen. There are so many Dem candidates we could end up with 1 from each party, or possibly 2 Repugs if people don't realize we need to unite for the Dem frontrunner even if he isn't our personal choice. We won't end up with 2 Dems, the polls don't indicate that at least.

My HoR seat is one of the 'redistricted' and was expected to lean heavily Dem. BUT the 'former' Trumper from my old district 'suddenly' re-registered as an Independent in my new district and is running here AND the last time I saw a poll, he was leading!!! He was one of the Trumpiest Trumpers there was. Talk about a wolf in sheep's clothing! I was so looking forward to living in a blue district, now I just don't know what will happen.

I can't find any polls other than the NYT and it's paywalled for me. If anyone has a subscription, could you please post the polls for California District 6 House of Reps? I feel the need to torture myself.

How did Bibi's ego take to this alleged call from Trump, or was it water off a duck's back?

Trump lashed out at Netanyahu, according to two US sources cited by Axios, and said he had helped him to avoid jail, a reference to the president’s support during the prime minister’s corruption trial.
A US official, summarising Trump’s comments, said: “You’re f*ing crazy. You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your ass. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this.”

I just checked if its 50 years for the Presidential Records Act. And it is. So we will know in 50 years.

However, when checking about the Presidential Records Act, I got all the stuff that we already know about: The Great Turd not being keen on that act.

So we won't know in 50 years.

Unless Israel has a 50 years rule....and wow. I got this.

"The Freedom of Information Act, 5758-1998, was passed on May 19, 1998, and went into effect regarding the Knesset Central Elections Committee in November of 2016. The law defines the rights of any citizen or resident of Israel to receive information held by public authorities."

That is slow, An Act was passed in 1998 and did not become law until 2016. So if it takes 20 years to enact an act.....

Link for the quote above, just for completeness.

And here we are talking about Iran and cage fighting when there are still stories in the US that would be world headline news in normal times.

Protests continued Sunday past a nightly curfew near Delaney Hall, an ICE facility in Newark, New Jersey, over alleged inhumane conditions for the detainees inside.

I have a feeling that the "Southern Gentleman" stuff may have been in part because it was the area of the USA in which defeated Cavaliers (ie Royalists) of "good family" took refuge after Cromwell came to power. They wouldn't have wanted to rub shoulders too much with rabid evangelical or Leveller types, or just hugely Protestant ones of any stripe, I don't suppose.

Fun fact, according to ex-husband whose period that was when he was studying history: there was just one demonstrable difference between the senior Roundheads and the senior Cavaliers in that conflict, which is often presented as "the middle and lower class rose up against the nobility": it was not not family nor wealth, but age. The Roundhead officers averaged older; many of them were old enough to remember the threat posed by Catholic Spain and the Armada, a childhood nightmare for most of England (including Catholics!) at that time. (Sort of equivalent to the later century's "be good or Boney will come and get you" of nurses seeking to quell their charges a bit.) Whether this really is fact or not, it makes for an interesting ponder.

The one thing that united them all was a desire to not pay any tax.

I am Scottish, and I have a bit of a different impression of the Scottish/Irish in the US South. Especially the Irish.

Ancestors left Ireland to escape persecution and famine. Scots left Scotland because Jacobites, and later the highland clearances.

And there is the indentured servitude stuff. And that has a strange mixup with slavery. Where some folk say their ancestors worked out of slavery and all that.

And Irish were persecuted in early America. As were Catholics in general. I remember reading something in the Federalist papers that Irish were not to be included in the 2nd amendment. They were banned from having guns at some point.

So they headed south ? Something like that anyway. Because they could sell themselves into indentured servitude. But even if they done that, they were not at the bottom.

If I am rambling rubbish, feel free to say.

Yeah. I never really got that. They did not want to pay tax on tea, but they are not big tea drinkers. They mostly drink coffee.
