Is that the 4 episode documentary? I might try and plough through that. Is it really worth it? Will the shockingness grip and entertain me or is it just depressing? Quite possible that these are my internal questions and not ones I expect you to be able to illuminate! I just wrestle with how much time I spend on these bloody awful specimens of humanity.

Those are my internal questions too, @TemporarilyCantDoMyself , so thank you for expressing them. Especially about spending time on these specimens.

I have put the Trump administration – and their pals in the UK – on an attention diet.

They function in an attention economy and their modus operandi is to grab our attention then direct it where they want (be it ragey ragey outrage against their target of the day; or simply into the sands of the Trump daily melodrama), to prevent us paying attention to things they'd rather we didn't notice.

So I'm keeping them on a mental 36-hour delay. If it's something I need to pay attention to, it'll still be there in a day or two's time; if it's not, I haven't wasted my life on it.

I know it's still necessary to winnow the "urgent and important" from the "urgent and dross", and that I won't always get it right.

But I think I'm going to class that Musk documentary as "still important after 36 hours" and give it a go. But will brace for it being depressing.Sad

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 22/05/2026 11:24

@PerkingFaintly interesting! They are basically massive attention seeking toddlers but because they are also powerful and dangerous we are in the double-bind of if we give them attention they want more and if we don't they'll wreak havoc that we'll have to clear up. I mean, this is the family psychodrama writ large.
What does the wise parent do? Live by the adage - give them an inch they'll take a mile? Or give them enough rope to hang themselves?
We are enduring a plague of out of control little boys. Argh!

PerkingFaintly · 22/05/2026 12:00

Exactly! Perfectly articulated!

Describing their behaviour as toddlerish isn't an insult; it's useful recognition of the behaviour, which we can use to guide our response to it.

Though as you say, it's still a dilemma when the "toddlers" are in roles of power.

Smack their behinds? Bit out of date I know 🙈🤣 - take their toys away then? put them in secure care?

I used to think Tories at some point latterly were like a gang of 6th formers giving ruling a whirl - but nothing on this!

But I do know we have to leave these toddlers be - still can’t believe the world has come to this in 2026 - sigh.

I simply cannot believe I live in a timeline where journalists helped force the last president out of his reelection campaign for being too old, so the country put an unstable 79-year-old who falls asleep constantly in office and none of the same journalists care at all,” one observer, Jamesetta Williams, put it succinctly on X.

Rubio urges NATO countries to develop plan B for opening Strait of Hormuz
Marco Rubio has called for a "plan B" for opening the Strait of Hormuz in case Iran refuses to lift its blockade.
"What if Iran decides, 'We refuse to open the straits, we're going to own the straits and we're going to charge tolls for it'?" Rubio asked, addressing reporters after the NATO meeting in Sweden.
"At that point, something has to be done about it."
The US secretary of state said everyone affected would have to "start thinking" about contingency plans and claims he "got a lot of nods" when he raised that point at the meeting.

"I don't know if that would be a NATO mission necessarily, but it would certainly be NATO countries that can contribute to it," he added.
European NATO members have previously firmly rejected Donald Trump's requests for help in breaking the Iranian blockade by force, saying they would only help secure the shipping lane in case of a lasting peace.
(My bolden)

In Sky News NATO interview, looking at Yvette Cooper's body language plus her words that Iran can't be allowed to control/prevent usage of a body of water that is important to the world made me think that whatever is afoot for the SoH might well involve a breach of Iran's territorial rights over it's portion of the Persian Gulf and SoH.

Little Marco was pretty feisty too. What I would give to know what's on the negotiation table from both the US and Iran.

I don't get this stuff about "something having to be done about it" re fees for the strait. After all, it is Trump that is pretty much keeping it closed. He claims he is in control.

Rubio also said it is "unacceptable".

But the thing is, until the US piss off from there, nobody will know what will happen.

One of the problems, of course, is that there’s just so much.

But that shouldn't stop MSM from reporting and pointing out the abuses of power, should it.
I do understand the MSM dilemma, as people are fed up with every day being groundhog day.

The EU has moved to extend the scope of sanctions against Iran in order to "address Tehran's military support for Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and various armed groups in the Middle East and the Red Sea region".

Apart from scale, how much different from Iranian support for Putin differ from the reality of UK support in the recent decision to ease sanctions on Russian oil/jet fuel.

Did NATO even try to put any pressure on the US to end the war? Strong words even?

I just saw that and hmmmm. mixed feelings.

First thought is Iran is sanctioned to the hilt already. So maybe they will just dig in deeper.

On the other hand, it is something to negotiate on.

But, ships are moving in the SoH now. 40 vessels in the last 24 hours I think.

So my overall thinking is.... bollocks. Lets get it open again before throwing any more spanners in the works. The EU should leave alone for now. Let Pakistan and the regional countries carry on with their discussions. Throw in Asia too. They are the main oil buyers after all.

I mean what arms will Iran be to supplying to Russia just now ? If anything it is Russia supplying Iran I would have thought. To re-arm.

And I agree re the US. Trump started it. Trump is keeping it going. How about slapping some sanctions on the US.

Jesus wept. Greenland, South American fast boats, killing a government, kidnapping a head of state, when will somebody stand up to the knob.

Tulsi Gabbard is resigning as Director of National Intelligence.

"Earlier this year, Trump said he and Gabbard are "a little bit different" in how they approach Iran's nuclear capabilities.”

That obviously didn't sit well with a man who values 'loyalty' ie total agreement, above all else.
I note that Trump doesn't even want Iran to enrich uranium for civilian/medical use. Trump jr probably already has a new company in the wings, to supply all Iran's uranium needs.

This irritates me soooo much - the US caused the block ffs - now they’re acting like it was a whim of Iran’s that we all need to resolve.

This has been Scrotus' modus operandi in all his failed real estate deals. He goes in gangbusters with how great it will be to make the sales, then something doesn't go according to his usually idiotic and unrealistic plan so he bails and calls over his shoulders on the way out "You guys figure it out". He then declares bankruptcy and leaves the other investors (and purchasers if it's condos) holding the bag.

So as far as he's concerned, he's done with opening the Strait, let 'the other guys' (of which there are actually none) open it. I think this is one of the reasons why he's become a 'Iran must not have nukes' one-trick pony. He's hoping to get the world's eyes off the mess he made of the Strait of Hormuz and focusing on Iran's 'nuclear dust'.

BruceAndNosh · 23/05/2026 00:49

I'm guessing trump is turning his attention to Cuba as an easier roach to step on compared to Iran. He might even have to "regretfully withdraw" from the Iran conflict to concentrate on the suddenly "much more important problem of Cuba"

Tulsi Gabbard is resigning as Director of National Intelligence.

I would like to think it was Trump shouting " Find me some intelligence" that was a last straw.

She likely thought to herself, " Well there is no fucking intelligence in this room, that's for sure".

But nah, it won't be that.
