Amazon have sent me 144 tins of beans- by accident!

I ordered 12 tins of beans from Amazon. And I have been sent 12 packs of 12 cans. Yep, 144 cans of beans. Amazon won't take them back either because they are a food product and have suggested I do what I want with them. It's almost as bad as the time I accidentally ordered 2000-ish toilet rolls (no, that isn't a typo!) in a post surgery, oramorph fuelled haze.
The only saving grace is a) they have a very long date on them and b) I'm a vegetarian.

Has anyone else ever had anything from Amazon like this?

I would be delighted by this - I love beans! If you can't store them though, you could always take them to a food bank.

needastrongone · 11/05/2026 12:08

Oh dear!

I would think a food bank would be delighted to receive any excess cans of beans if you can get them to one?

Food bank or farting seems to be your choice here

I've had this from Ocado before- 2 trays of 24 (I think) jars of ground coriander rather than 2 jars.

I'm sure a foodbank would gladly take some beans off your hands,

MaidMiriam · 11/05/2026 12:09

Also, what did you do with the 2000 toilet rolls (apart from the obvious)???

Hoppinggreen · 11/05/2026 12:11

I did similar with toilet roll
Then Covid hit and I felt very smug about my daft mistake

purplecorkheart · 11/05/2026 12:11

As others said Foodbank is the best bet. How do you store 2000 toilet rolls.

maftan · 11/05/2026 12:17

Beans on Toast party incoming.......

I ordered 4 large plastic storage boxes, fairly large ones. One was cracked and broken so I tried to arrange a replacement, but they wanted me to send all 4 back so they could send another 4. I contacted them through chat and asked if they could just send me one replacement because I would struggle to get the huge parcel with all 4 to the post office. They asked for a photo of the damage and then arranged to send a replacement and said I could just dispose of the ones I had, so in the end I got 7 storage boxes for the price of 4.

I had a special offer for Ring cameras, 50% off, so decent discount. It looked like it was a personalised offer sent to a few people rather than something everyone had. I'd taken screenshots and had a couple of weeks before the offer expired but was trying decide between 2 cameras. When I decided, the offer had disappeared. I contacted them and they said order them at full price, then call us and we'll refund the difference. I ordered 2 (which the original offer allowed), called them and the person I spoke to was struggling to do it properly. In the end, I got a refund of 50% for one camera, so had to call back and explain everything again. The first call had taken ages, sharing screenshots of the offer and asking loads of questions, second call, the guy said something like "sure I'll sort that, all done" and afterwards when I checked the email, he'd given a full refund, so I got 2 cameras for free!

My steak is too juicy and my lobster is too buttery :)

SmallTreeDeepRoots · 11/05/2026 12:18

I ordered a clothes airer from Argos and they sent me 12, clearly the pack from the manufacturer with individually wrapped airers inside. Tried returning the excess, but they were so bloody painful about it I gave up. Kept 3, gave a few away and sold the rest.

Also in lockdown bought 2 packs of 2 duck eggs for fun from Ocado. Subbed for 2 packs of 18 cheap normal eggs. And I already had nice normal eggs in my order. Gave some away and got through the rest over the following month. So those egg shortages were probably me - sorry!

I once got sent a box of 100 items instead of 1 item. This was from the hut group not Amazon. A hair product travel size. I hadn’t used it before and wasn’t particularly impressed with it so still have about 90 left to use. I might give them to a charity shop actually.

I thought the Vegetarian bit was related to the saving grace of the toilet rolls and thought that was a bit TMI 😳 💩

If you have space to store the beans, well worth keeping and using them yourself! Will save you some money over the next year or so! 💷

tinyspiny · 11/05/2026 12:21

When our son was small we got sent 30 Thomas the tank trains to fit his brio train set rather than the one that I ordered .

PurpleNightingale · 11/05/2026 12:22

This week I had a six pack of walkers crisps missing on my Iceland order. I'd ordered them on a 3 six packs for £5 deal so I wasn't too bothered.

Iceland refunded me the full £5. I'm not sure if they were meaning it as goodwill or they made a mistake but I am pleased with my free crisps!

Gettingbysomehow · 11/05/2026 12:24

Its perfect for your armageddon storage cupboard. Im still using up the industrial size toilet rolls I ordered during covid. I didnt realise how massive they were 😂

paperlightshade · 11/05/2026 12:28

Said toilet rolls were kept in the garage. It took us years to get through them. DH almost fell off his perch when the van turned up and the damn things kept on coming. The kids (teens) thought it was hilarious- both the sheer quantities and DH's apoplexy.
How did it happen? DH said 'we need more' so I ordered them. However I didnt register that a pack of toilet rolls was already a multipack so added way more than I should have done into the shopping basket and then clicked 'buy now'.

That’s wonderful. I’d donate some to your local food bank. It’s good karma for the freebies.

I once had a labelling mix up with Amazon. I ordered 5 litres of pickling vinegar (I wanted to make batches of pickled eggs). Instead I got Mr John Smogglesberry’s 30 count pack of Tena for men overnight pads. 😳😂

It had his name on the label, but my address. I googled and there is only one John Smogglesberry in the UK, living about 200 miles from me. He was of the age where perhaps Tena for men pads may be needed. I can only guess that Mr Smogglesberry received my 5 litres of pickling vinegar and was just as perplexed. 🤣

Amazon would not fix it unless I paid to ship the pads back and I refused so never really got the bottom of it and I never ended up making my pickled eggs.

mindutopia · 11/05/2026 12:32

Oh and I once accidentally received 15 random unordered teaspoons in my Tesco online shopping. Dh unloaded it all and was like why did you buy so many spoons. I hadn’t but it’s great because spoons disappear in our house. Now we have like 6 left.

FIFIBEBE · 11/05/2026 12:33

Currently donating Soap and Glory products to charity shops weekly. A well known chemist shop initially only send a third of my order to me. Customer Services dealt with this by sending hundreds of bottles of product over seven deliveries. They told me to keep it all or donate. The local Foodbank don’t want anymore and it’s quite heavy taking it up and down the high street to various charities and friends no longer want it. In a few months it will all have gone and I’m left thinking this must happen all the time.

GameOfJones · 11/05/2026 12:36

Well, the UK Government has issued advice that all households should be prepared in case of an emergency and have some back up food stores..... I'd say you've made a good start on prepping for the armageddon! 🫘

7238SM · 11/05/2026 12:41

Amazon sent me a tongue scraper once! No, I didn't order it, it just came with the thing I'd ordered.

Another time, they sent 100 little make-up brushes- again, I didn't order them.

NotAChanceIn · 11/05/2026 12:48

@FIFIBEBE if you have any women's refuges they would take things like soap and glory off you. :)

UnctuousUnicorns · 11/05/2026 12:51

That's my worst nightmare - I'm vegetarian but I detest the things. 🤮 Off to the food bank with the lot!
