Amazon have sent me 144 tins of beans- by accident!

paperlightshade · 11/05/2026 12:06

I ordered 12 tins of beans from Amazon. And I have been sent 12 packs of 12 cans. Yep, 144 cans of beans. Amazon won't take them back either because they are a food product and have suggested I do what I want with them. It's almost as bad as the time I accidentally ordered 2000-ish toilet rolls (no, that isn't a typo!) in a post surgery, oramorph fuelled haze.
The only saving grace is a) they have a very long date on them and b) I'm a vegetarian.

Has anyone else ever had anything from Amazon like this?

I keep getting caught out with online sizes of plants. The fig trees I ordered were tiny twigs and will take many years to grow. The "mini orchard collection" turned out to be mini in number, but full size in tree! The lavender I thought was in 9cm pots turned out to be 1cm plugs. I'm sure this ought to be easier.

ShakyBake · 11/05/2026 21:29

Well why don't you have 3 tins each lunch time so you can have a bubble bath in the evening?

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 11/05/2026 21:31

Food bank. Obvs.

Unfortunately they are not baked beans. They're black beans. While I do like stuff like refried beans and the kids will eat a bit as well, we're going to be eating refried beans until the second coming at this rate.

DH who hasnt quite forgotten toilet roll-gate has been asking me if I was actually on planet earth when I ordered them.

Shame not baked beans

but sure food banks would take some

WhatNextImScared · 11/05/2026 21:35

The fact that they are black beans is great! They go in so many more things. You use them in stews and chillis, Mexican wraps, you can turn them into a dip, you can use them in baking - brownies with black beans in are lush.

CheeseWisely · 11/05/2026 21:37

Times have changed! In the early days of supermarket deliveries I deliberately ordered just 12 large bags of crisps from Tesco to a friend’s address (it was an in-joke, a few of us took turns to buy the crisps for a regular night in and I was travelling for a few months but had said I’d honour my turns). Tesco called me THREE TIMES before delivery to clarify I’d not made a mistake!

That's Gross

🤣

I was trying to make a German grandfather joke, but you got there first!

CheddarCheeseAndCrispSandwich · 11/05/2026 21:49

I got sent 2 vacuum cleaners once…I did contact them but they told me to keep them! I gave one to my mum 😂

AWeeCupOfTeaAndAnIndividualFruitTrifle · 11/05/2026 21:50

I remember reading a 'feature' in a trashy mag many, many years ago (Chat or similar) about a man who accidentally ordered 10g of sprouts instead of 100g in his online shopping order, and he was making such a massive song and dance about how utterly stupid Tesco was for... erm... sending him exactly what he ordered, when he received a single sprout!

The more self-righteous he got, the more stupid he came across. I bet, if Tesco had magically guessed what had happened and sent him 10 sprouts, he would have complained about them overriding his order and thinking they knew better - he really did seem like that kind of person!

paperlightshade · 11/05/2026 21:58

Having checked the local foodbank they are indeed one of the ones saying 'no more tinned beans please'. However I will keep an eye out throughout the year and drop a few cans in when they need them again.

@AWeeCupOfTeaAndAnIndividualFruitTrifle I have indeed ordered one or two sprouts from the greengrocer before. DH hates them with a passion, teen 1 will eat a few and teen 2 will only eat them under duress. I'm the only one who likes them but I don't want more than a few on my dinner. Thankfully they know us very well-and would definitely query an order for bizarre amounts of vegetables ordered by accident before sending them!

I ordered X boxes of mushrooms once rather than X mushrooms. But as it was from Tescos, they took them back.

WildGarden · 11/05/2026 22:06

My aunt order one of those teak wall cabinets with glass doors and lights in years ago from MFI.

Over a period of weeks they sent her four of them. She tried calling and writing but nobody ever came to take them away and she was only charged for one.

She kept them all and her front room was like the glass and china rooms in the Fitzwilliam Museum.

Cleocaterpillar · 11/05/2026 22:10

I'm very jealous of everyone getting expensive or even edible freebies. The only thing I ever received by mistake was a random small packet of seeds from China. I later found out its a scam to fake the reviews or something 😂

Besidemyselfwithworry · 11/05/2026 22:13

Love Soap and Glory I’d have absolutely loved that but between friends and family and school and club raffles and a bit of re-gifting I’m sure we could easily have managed that lot!
black beans tho! I’d have been happier with baked beans but I’d have given some away to people - taken them into work and to the food bank

CurlewKate · 11/05/2026 22:21

Straight to the nearest foodbank.

JustAnotherWhinger · 11/05/2026 22:28

I saw a TGTG delivery deal that was, I thought, 25 pots of jelly for a good price. My kids love it and I send it with their packed lunches sometimes so ordered it.

When it arrived it was 25 4 packs of jelly. Even with 3 kids in the house we weren’t going to get through that in time for the short date to be up 😂

Bundle of it went to the food bank. Did have a very cute moment with 3yo DN declaring that our house had “all the jelly in the whole world… even more than Asda!” 😂

Maybe you're not the only local who has been the victim of the bean confusion!

magicpotion2026 · 11/05/2026 23:34

Not quite as many but I ordered 10 x packs of fairy power wipes from TikTok shop
they arrived, 100 wipes in each pack, looked great
Next day, the same arrived again so I now have 2000 fairy wipes….

Incandescentangel · 11/05/2026 23:55

During Covid our local butcher started making deliveries. They dropped off the orders together with a list of all the items they had, and we would fill in the form and hand it over when they delivered. The boy doing the deliveries was lovely, and one week he told me that he had sliced the lamb’s liver himself and it had taken him ages. I couldn’t bring myself to tell him that I had ordered 8oz of liver, not 8lb!

ThatLemonBee · 12/05/2026 00:16

They last years so keep them and use them

It may be still worth contacting them.

By 'no more beans' they may mean baked beans, in the same way almost everyone assumed you meant by beans because beans means baked beans and any other kind we would expect to be explicitly stated otherwise

HoldItAllTogether · 12/05/2026 00:28

Amazon sent me a £500 special edition gaming system instead of a £20 pan. Usually when they make mistakes they tell me to keep the items but this time they asked me to send it back when I told them.

Villanousvillans · 12/05/2026 00:40

I ordered two lilos from Amazon. They sent me two of the same prints of a beach scene with a lilo on. I still wonder if someone was having a laugh.

MaidMiriam · 11/05/2026 12:09

Also, what did you do with the 2000 toilet rolls (apart from the obvious)???

I hope some of them got put in a safe place , might need them what with the reputation beans have….

FourCatMama · 12/05/2026 00:55

I ordered one and received seven Roombas. Their error. They tried to get me to return them but I cited US law that says they can’t charge you for or force you to return a mail order item you didn’t order. Consequently I gave several nice Christmas presents that year!
