Hi all, DD wants to do a daytrip in a day post GCSEs, preferably to Venice. Is this 'a thing'? I hear it is... love to hear your thoughts

What's the point? Genuine question. Is it to say you've "done" Venice? Well if course you haven't, you've just indulged a trend. You might as well watch a few YouTube videos, at least it wouldn't involve a flight for the hell if it, and at zero cost.

‘Done’ Venice !!
so how many hours / days must one spend in a location to be allowed to claim that a place has been visited ???
many people staying in Italy will day trip to Venice - are you as critical of them ??
venice does not have the capacity to accommodate most of its visitors overnight !!

Damn. We have booked to go for ten days after the exams finish! Are we going to be plagued with TikTokers making inane videos?

No more than all the other tourist hotspots where people are taking pictures / selfies / videos etc etc …

plagued indeed !!!!! Ridiculous

Its a fun day out. Plus if you find somewhere you like, you can go back for a long weekend or proper holiday.

I've done a Christmas markets one, and been to a couple more places. Currently looking for something to Ibiza or Alicante. Wander round, nice lunch, sea swim, sleep on the plane on the way back.

Of course, you're quite right. Even better, you can say you've done Italy and Europe as well. Job done.

My daughter recently did a day trip to Dublin - 6am flight, day in Dublin, night out in bars, crashed at airport for a few hours and a 6am flight back. My idea of hell, but then, I'm not 18. She loved it. Your daughter could presumably do something similar to Venice, even factoring in the longer flight.

I see you are looking at staying a couple of nights now.
We went to Venice for 3 days and I think it is probably still my favourite place I went with my teenagers.
We got a private water taxi to transfer to the hotel. It was a bit pricey but the kids felt like they were in a scene from James Bond.
We went in Carnival time (February) but of the tourist attractions they particularly enjoyed -
Doges Palace - particularly the prison
Day trip to see the glass making on the island of Murano. We also saw the lace making on the other island but they weren't so taken with that.
Leonardo Da Vinci museum
Gondola ride
