Does an additional case on CMS mean there are other children?

Anyone know about CMS claims?

I have recently split from husband and put a claim in for CMS.

They have written to me and stated

Reason for calculation
Additional case

Does this mean my husband has other children, other than our two?

Shameful bump

It's a long wait for Monday so I can call the CMS

I'm sorry I have NO idea, but it does sound like it. However, given the level of incompetence who knows? Please try not to worry & see what they say on Monday.

or you could ask him?

I could ask him but the reason for the split is his consant lies and deceitful behaviour.

The gov website has some information. It’s not clear but it could mean he’s applied to get them to look at additional factors, like costs of travel to see the kids for example

BeautifulBirds · 09/05/2026 12:07

The letter says the number of children he pays for has changed.

OP posts:
ToKittyornottoKitty · 09/05/2026 12:11

Well that’s quite different to what you said in your OP. Unless it’s 50/50 care or one kid lives with him then there must be an additional kid somewhere

Jellybunny98 · 09/05/2026 12:12

If the letter explicitly says that the number of children he pays for has changed then surely that is the answer to your question OP? What else could that possibly mean?

BeautifulBirds · 09/05/2026 12:07

The letter says the number of children he pays for has changed.

Thst would strongly imply your children have half siblings. In fact I struggle to think what else it can mean...

Well that's different to what you said before. What does the letter actually say? Exactly?

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/05/2026 12:15

Sounds like either he has kids before he met you

or maybe new partner is preg ? If he is seeing anyone

New partner being pregnant wouldn’t change the existing number of kids

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 09/05/2026 12:19

Has he moved in with a woman who has children? They would be taken into account even if they aren't his.

BeautifulBirds · 09/05/2026 12:20

The reason given for the letter was as the first post.

In the letter it says

Recalculated due to

The number of children xxx pays for has changed.

Xxx has been named as the paying parent in a new child maintenance application.

Because if this xxx must pay child maintenance for his other children

I am all new to this, its a new claim from me, for our two children.

I am reading this that he has other children i don't know about and the other mother has a claim in too.

I was going to say something like this.

Sounds like it could just be a "new" claim from you
Increasing the number of children from 0 to 2

AAudreyHorne · 09/05/2026 12:22

Is it possible that he was already paying CMS for another child while he was with you? And the recalculation is to include your children on to his existing payments?
I have no experience of CMS claims but thought this could be a possibility.

Ah good point

unless ex has a gf and she’s given birth ?

thing is we can all speculate but till op speaks to cm Monday she won’t know

or she can ask ex. If she has a letter he has obv given info to cms

Well yes he has another child then

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 09/05/2026 12:34

Numbers might help here. How many children do you have? How much does he earn and how many overnights does he have?

Notarealblonde · 09/05/2026 12:39

Sounds like he has a secret lovechild yes.

That has no bearing on OP’s question .. does the wording mean he has more children.

The figures would confirm one way or another. If she's getting the full amount it could either be stupid wording on an initial claim or if not getting the full amount its because there is another child.

However if the op has the calculation on the letter that would show if another child is also being paid for so she can work it out herself and no need to give us the figures.

SixLeggedSugarBug · 09/05/2026 13:29

Either he has another child or has moved in with someone that has children.

Justbreathagain · 09/05/2026 13:30

Can you upload a picture of the letter redacting any personal information ?
