Hlep me - King or SuperKing?

As the title says! Re-doing our bedroom and can't decide whether to get a king or superking bed. We have a king atm but having slept in superking ones recently, they really are quite wonderful.....

Our room measures 4.2m wide (this is the wall the bed would be going on) and 4.9 metres long. We have a standard chest of drawers one side of the bed, a wardrobe the other. Also the ceiling is sloping as it's an upstairs room in a chalet bungalow.

I've always assumed we'd upgrade to superking but now it's actually come to it I'm worried it might feel a bit cramped and the bed might be a bit dominant. DH thinks it's absolutely fine and there's plenty of space!

Do you think we have enough space?

Get the biggest bed possible. We have a king, and when we sleep in a double it feels tiny! A super king would be bliss!

Fourlittlepiggies · 08/05/2026 21:10

Superking!

Well this was always my thought too!! And I do really want the super king - just worried about aesthetics 😁

God yes get a superking. I will never move to a house that won’t allow me to fit a superking. It’s just bliss.

Dontbeatwat · 08/05/2026 21:13

Well superking seems to be winning here .

Superking.

I had a king and thought I was living but then! I got a superking.

I would never go back.

Superking = life

My room is an L shape with the bed wall being 5m. We are planning 3 drawer chests as bedside tables because a normal sized bedside table will look a bit silly I think.

The other measurement of our room is actually slightly shorter than yours and there’s still lots of space at the bottom of the bed for a chest of drawers.

Your room is plenty plenty big enough for a super king and what would you do with an extra foot or so of floor space anyway.

Copperoliverbear · 08/05/2026 21:16

Super king x

DiggoryVenn · 08/05/2026 21:17

Yep super king. I love mine, and we have separate duvets on it too, so even better.

WoollyandSarah · 08/05/2026 21:20

Superking. Think about how much time you spend in bed vs how much time you spend walking around in your bedroom.

SnipItScrapBook · 08/05/2026 21:21

I wish I'd gone for super king. By the time dp, me and the two cats are on the King there's no space!

Foodylicious · 08/05/2026 21:24

The aesthetics from your superking bed will be lovely !
I'd reccomend a double duvet each for the bed too.

Koulibiak · 08/05/2026 21:24

A bed should have its own postcode. Superking all the way,

bellsbuss · 08/05/2026 21:24

Super king

DappledThings · 08/05/2026 21:25

I'd go the other way and get a standard double to maximise space and storage. But then I only learnt from MN that so many people have bigger than that so commonly. I thought it was mainly just a hotel thing.

ItsBestServedCold · 08/05/2026 21:25

I have an adjustable superking and it’s divine! However, I also have two bedrooms knocked into one, so we’re not cramped. I’m not sure how much I would still like my bed if the room was cramped tbh.

I would suggest that you buy some newspapers and lay out the sheets to the size of a superking where the bed will be placed to gage the actual size of it and how much room you have to move around it. And go from there.

We do this when buying large furniture - sofa etc.. to make sure we’re happy with the fit before we buy.

Super king with 2 seperate duvets. We actually have a double duvet each and it’s bliss

BaileysHotChocolateByThePool · 08/05/2026 21:25

Superking. We both sleep so much better having enough space.

This is an excellent idea - off to find some tape....

Although it appears that the consensus is clear!

No chance of that here....we have to sleep in a double whenever we visit my parents and it's really too cosy for our liking 😁we've had a king for years.

Same! We got a super long a couple of months ago and haven’t looked back. It’s amazing. Also went for a double duvet each (so DH can’t steal mine!). It’s all been a game changer. Cats love it too

TheCurious0range · 08/05/2026 21:46

We have a super king does it dominate the bedroom, maybe a little (it's also fairly high) , but a bedroom is for bed it's in the name! I love it

shhblackbag · 08/05/2026 21:47

Superking. Once you have one, you'll never trade down, though! I live alone and will always choose the biggest bed I can fit in the room.

Doubles are terrible. I’m bracing myself not in a good way, for our camping trip in a few weeks with a double inflatable mattress. Neither of us are short and are restless so doubles don’t really work for us

DanceMumTaxi · 08/05/2026 21:49

We upgraded to a super king. It’s marvellous. If you can fit it in, do it.
