Hlep me - King or SuperKing?

As the title says! Re-doing our bedroom and can't decide whether to get a king or superking bed. We have a king atm but having slept in superking ones recently, they really are quite wonderful.....

Our room measures 4.2m wide (this is the wall the bed would be going on) and 4.9 metres long. We have a standard chest of drawers one side of the bed, a wardrobe the other. Also the ceiling is sloping as it's an upstairs room in a chalet bungalow.

I've always assumed we'd upgrade to superking but now it's actually come to it I'm worried it might feel a bit cramped and the bed might be a bit dominant. DH thinks it's absolutely fine and there's plenty of space!

Do you think we have enough space?

Another vote for super king!

CatastroCat · 08/05/2026 21:52

Why would it be a problem for a bed to dominate a bedroom? That's what a bedroom is for. Clue is in the name

WhosGotTheKeysToMyBimma · 08/05/2026 21:52

Get the big bed.

You won't regret it - except for holidays or staying with friends because you'll no longer be able to sleep in a double with DH.

If there's no option for a King we go for twin rooms now & have driven 3 hours home rather than struggle in a double bed for a second night.

Superking, and get an ottoman bed for the storage.

TheDandyLion · 08/05/2026 21:59

Superking. Even in our tiny 3.5 x 3.5m bedroom I still don't regret squeezing in a superking. There's enough room to walk round but plenty of space for sleeping.

Super king. We’re in a loft room smaller than yours - so have built in wardrobes at the opposite end to the bed and I have a small dressing table on the sloping roof side, partner has a bedside table on his side.

we like it as it’s cosy - we designed it that way from scratch.

Highonmyownsupply · 08/05/2026 22:19

Love our super king but bedding for it can be expensive.

BeeNine · 08/05/2026 22:21

I got a “hotel” style super king from Next, it has so much storage underneath, shelves and drawers. I will never look back!

TokenGinger · 08/05/2026 22:26

Absolutely a super king.

Our room is 4m wide. It leaves us both with 1.1m on each side of the bed and it doesn’t feel cramped. You also have the added bonus of extra space at the foot of the bed, which we don’t have much of.

I love ours. We went for an ottoman so tons of storage. It’s great for when the kids inevitably come to join us, or when I want to push DP far enough away to not hear his snoring 😂

NotMrsTumble · 08/05/2026 22:26

On bed size, bigger is pretty much always better. We have a super king, and have had one for years. On a recent holiday we had what must have been an emperor... Damn. I know what I'm buying when it's time to replace the super king. Also, super king bedding isn't particularly expensive. It definitely used to be rarer and thus more expensive, but loads of places stock it now, including argos, supermarkets (sainsburys and asda for sure) and even primark.

currentlybrunette · 08/05/2026 22:27

Superking.

I will never go back.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 08/05/2026 22:29

Yeah go big x

Penkie · 08/05/2026 22:33

What else do you do in the bedroom other than sleep in bed?

Mostly anyway! 😆
Super King definitely.

The only downside is having to iron a bigger duvet cover.

trampolinebounce · 08/05/2026 23:12

I have two kings pushed together to make one super huge bed. We end up with at least 2 kids every night and on bad night all 4 are in with us so it just made sense.
Will say its ruined double beds for us now.
Go as big as you can 😊

We have a king sized bed with a superking duvet on top. Utterly snuggly.

ainsleysanob · 09/05/2026 09:07

Ha!! People would hate our bedroom! It’s a massive room with a tiny double bed in it! We hate sleeping in kingsize + beds in hotels. We don’t cuddle in bed but a body part, usually a foot, has to be touching!

OP, get the superking if that’s what will give you the better sleep!
