Evri marked parcel as handed to customer but left at door

My parcel was left at my front door earlier this evening. I’ve just checked and Evri have written ‘parcel handed directly to customer’. This is a downright lie, they didn’t even knock or ring the doorbell.

Evri are shocking.

It's quite common for drivers to do that imo. More usually Amazon. If you get the parcel ok, no harm done, but what if it disappears from your doorstep?

My Evri driver usually writes that she's left the parcel in an outhouse. I don't have an outhouse, she's usually dumped it on the doorstep, like yours OP.

Friendlygingercat · 07/05/2026 01:42

Evri are the default drivers for Debop and I wont use them. I use Royal Mail.

Stressybetty · 07/05/2026 01:44

Our Evri man does this, he basically bangs on the door, drops the parcel and runs away.

Villanousvillans · 07/05/2026 02:26

It’s the fact that they wrote ‘handed directly to customer’ that really annoys me.

Mine put a package in the recycling bin the other day 🤮 and no note through the door. I only realised as I have a ring doorbell. I suppose it beats being chucked in front of the front door in terms of thought but it was still pretty gross fishing it out and I would not have known had I not checked the footage.

OP I have had this too. I think most people receive such bad service and constantly have this kind of thing happen that it’s no longer even considered a big deal. Just part of modern life, even though it shouldn’t be.

This happens to me all the time. It enrages me.

Royal Mail usually ring, but they are utterly useless if you try to change the delivery date.

tiramisugelato · 07/05/2026 08:56

That’s standard for pretty much all of them these days - they only get paid if the items are delivered.

I've had Royal Mail put "you were out" cards through the door when I've been sitting in the living room!

Ours doesn’t even knock, bright does the usual amazing guy. If you are not on top of the tracking constantly the feral neighbours will lift it. Impossible to discuss this with other anyone and stop it happening. I have now started using lockers for the majority of things and I get Amazon deliveries to my dads house instead.

ShodAndShadySenators · 07/05/2026 09:09

My Evri couriers have been great. I have a parcel box tucked among the bins and the previous ones always used it, even if we're plainly in. I suppose it saves them time if they can just put the parcel in the box knowing we'll have heard the bloop bloop of the Ring saying someone's on the drive. Latest one just rings the doorbell and waits, she's good.

Amazon couriers are more of the "dump it on the doorstep and mark it handed to resident" ilk. Very annoying, especially if we are out and don't want a parcel sitting blatantly on the step. We've never had anything stolen so fortunate in that respect, but I agree with you @Villanousvillans it's the deceit that's irritating.

Akao · 07/05/2026 09:34

It’s not great, but I get why it happens, you get paid per package, it can end up coming out under min wage and there’s a pressure to get it delivered no matter what, evri are terrible to work for.
it’s not the fault of the drivers, it’s the companies that pay pennies and have unrealistic expectations that means this is what ends up happening

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 07/05/2026 10:36

Do any of you ever complain about the lying? What happens if they say it was handed directly to you and it wasn't and somebody nicks it off the doorstep?

Villanousvillans · 07/05/2026 10:38

Who do you complain to? Evri is impossible to contact, I’ve tried.

Our stealth Evri guy knocks and dashes. He's brilliant but we do live in a flat where parcels are safe to be left. I think there are probably more problems caused by the depot.

I find RM the most frustrating. Either they say they couldnt deliver when they obviously havent tried or they give you a delivery window that started an hour before they even told you!

Its pot luck with deliveries though. My Evri guy is brilliant though, always cheerful and always lets me know if something is left with neighbours.
The Amazon guys are pretty good as well.

CelticSilver · 07/05/2026 10:46

When they say 'Sorry, we missed you!' and you've been in your front room all morning staring at your driveway. Bastards.

It’s the fact that they wrote ‘handed directly to customer’ that really annoys me.

This is why some services are requiring a photo of the “handing” now; they don’t take a picture of yourself exactly, but the amount of times I’ve seen my husband’s right hand and legs on a delivery notice is a bit hilarious.

Bananarice · 07/05/2026 10:49

Royal mail, took a picture of my parcel next to my window. When I got home, it was no longer there.

Ebay refused to refund me. As the photo shows my address and my window. Not even my door. No one was home at that time. I live few door down from a bus stop.

Villanousvillans · 07/05/2026 10:50

I had one from Evri that said they’d tried to deliver but couldn’t get access. I was sitting in my front room at the time. There was absolutely nothing on my camera.

It’s the blatant lies that gets me.

Evri are awful

I had a notification from them yesterday that delivery had been attempted and failed. This was at 1:30pm in a fully occupied office building. Definitely no attempt here and no other details or way to ask for more information just "we'll try again tomorrow". This is the 2nd time it's happened with Evri recently - never had it with another company in 20 years of working here and multiple deliveries daily. To be fair the other one did show up the next day so I’m hoping that happens again

They are also used by Hello Fresh. My delivery earlier this week was due between 2-3pm. It eventually showed up at 9:45 PM in a damaged box and was left at the front door without ringing or knocking. Luckily we saw a shadow move through the curtains and went to investigate because I doubt it would have been still been there the next morning! That's just the most recent issue, but there have been others - we're cancelling our subscription because of it

If someone can tell me how to make a complaint that will be heard I’m keen to hear about it.

Complain to the supplier of the goods. Until people complain to suppliers and tell them they will buy elsewhere unless offered the option of a decent courier this won’t change. In my area Evri/Yodel both dump and run, leaving parcels in full view of the road and in all weathers. Amazon are more variable - some are good, others terrible.

I also always use the feedback systems and comment where couriers have lied and I always explicitly thank couriers who knock and wait. I also make it clear that I am willing to pay more for a decent service - I don’t want cheap delivery if its not paying a fair wage to the couriers.

I have had this happen and also goods damaged due to being dumped on a doorstep in lousy weather.

I don’t waste time talking to the courier - my contract is with the supplier, its their job to make sure the goods are delivered. I’ve not had a problem getting goods replaced, the courier is obviously not able to supply a picture of the item being delivered and they have always accepted pictures of damaged packaging and goods. From the speed with which they accept the claims, I assume this is factored into the price of the goods already which makes it especially frustrating.

Pemba · 11/05/2026 12:03

This morning I had Amazon ignore my delivery instructions and dump something on my doorstep in the rain when I'd told them to put it in the garden. 30 minutes later Evri arrived and did the same thing, ignoring my instructions.

Luckily for me it's a quiet street, but the front door is close to the road and there was nothing to stop anybody walking by from stealing them.

I feel a bit sorry for the drivers as I know they are probably exploited, but it's not really acceptable, they don't even try. So I've left crappy feedback.
