Morning all!

Up for several hours last night worrying about the state of the world. Quite futile!

A bit grey today. British Gas have sent their noisiest machinery to dig outside our house, but the road is closed so when they're not drilling we enjoy the absence of traffic noise!

I have got vertigo again but hope it will go in a while. The vision is good in my new eye but it's very red still so looks a bit gruesome. Should calm down with drops.

Hope you all have a good week.

danglethedingle · 11/05/2026 10:01

@TeaAndStrumpets The world was keeping my awake last night too, I gave myself a talking to about doing what you can do, and accept what you can't. I didn't listen, and just could not shut off.

Apart from being exhausting, its very annoying when I am trying to be holistic and do self care and whatnot, and then my bloody brain keeps me awake worrying about things I have absolutely no control over or able to influence in any way. Well done brain, thanks for that. 😊

TodayIsatrickyone · 11/05/2026 10:24

Glad it’s over and done with for you @TeaAndStrumpets and hope recovery goes smoothly. Sending empathy as vertigo is horrible.

Well done on the promotion @Swanhilde but take it steady.

well done on the toilet seat @MewithME and hope this week is calmer.

Things are moving frustratingly slowly recovery wise, some little improvements but utter exhaustion still and so much pain especially in my shoulder which makes getting comfortable difficult or holding/ picking things up with my dominant hand.
After relief that dr prescribed slow release morphine for a little longer, chemist just didn’t deliver it and we didn't realise til I took the last one from the hospital yesterday morning. So stress and pain yesterday. DH went first thing and sorted it so I have meds at least.

Positives from the weekend, a friend popped in briefly and gave me a hug, little dog makes me smile by just being silly, DH set up some trays outside and brought everything to my chair so I could sit and plant some herb seeds. ( Types of Basil and coriander)
Have managed to get downstairs twice each day just for short spells so that’s an improvement on last week and tolerated a short spell of TV.

TodayIsatrickyone · 11/05/2026 10:28

Oh @danglethedingle I hear you. One of the hardest things is switching my damn brain off. We can only do what we can do.

TeaAndStrumpets · 11/05/2026 10:36

@TodayIsatrickyone so glad you are being well looked after!

martha79 · 11/05/2026 11:03

Morning all.

Sorry the recovery is slow @TodayIsatrickyone but glad you have DH and dog and friends.

Hope the eye settles down soon @TeaAndStrumpets

I'm trying really hard not to think too much about the state of the world (and then catastrophise horribly), but it's difficult.

Feeling washed out today after yesterday's adrenaline, but it's a fairly quiet day at work. Signed up to an online workshop this evening which is about 'body release' for stress and trauma, aimed at people with chronic illness, will be interesting to see if that's anything different from other things I've been trying.

TodayIsatrickyone · 11/05/2026 11:06

Both DH and DD are doing so well but it’s hard not to feel guilty at having to rely on them both. It’s a lot for DH with his own difficulties. DD has exams this week bless her and I really feel like I should be looking after her. So emotionally it’s hard.

The housework is taking a back seat so I’m just trying not to look when I do make it downstairs! May have to find a cleaner at some point but right now, none of us want strangers coming in plus it’s tricky with a reactive dog, so we’ll muddle along. I have a friend who used to clean so I could reach out and see if she still does but means explaining everything. Currently only told people close to me in real life, but maybe an option a few weeks down the line. She knows the house at least.

TodayIsatrickyone · 11/05/2026 11:51

@martha79 the workshop sound interesting, hope it’s useful.

TeaAndStrumpets · 11/05/2026 11:52

@TodayIsatrickyone it's such a quandary about cleaning. Our house had a massive declutter and deepclean nearly a year ago when we went on the market and every viewing was an ordeal keeping on top of things. It has rather backslid since then! Our buyers aren't going to care because they are developers so we are keeping fingers crossed it completes OK. The thought of doing it all again terrifies me! Just to maintain my self respect I will get a professional clean done when we go. DH already does so much in the house I can't ask him to do windows and paintwork too.

I would absolutely hate having a cleaner coming in but in your situation do you think you could book a one off deep clean to tide you over?

@martha79 if you find a way to turn off adrenaline rushes please let me know! They seem to reverberate for days.

Had an orthotic appointment today, got a new knee brace. It’s on now and I’m not sure when I’m meant to take it off Confused

TodayIsatrickyone · 11/05/2026 13:21

Yes @TeaAndStrumpets I was thinking a one off clean even just bathrooms and floors might be an idea over half term and they take the dog out of the way for a couple of hours!

DH is currently doing school runs, dog walks, shopping, breakfasts and lunches ( DD doing dinners and feeding dog) keeping on top of laundry, watering garden & mowing lawns, dishwasher, kitchen, helping me with baths when I need, running the vacuum around when he remembers and probably more. I am worrying it’s hard on him. Trying just to stick to the basics but as we all know, the basics is a lot! Once exams are over, DD can help a bit more but next few weeks I want her to just get through exams. Timings hard enough as it is. And breathe… this will pass.

It's just overwhelming how it mounts up, isn't it? And the the sun shining in doesn't help! We have a Roomba which is great for routine hoovering but it's no good for edges.

Your family sounds great and hopefully you remember to take things easy, that is your main job at the moment!

That sounds like quite a device! Maybe you could ring and ask. Do you think you should build up the wearing or will it work straight away?

ValleyClouds · 11/05/2026 13:41

@TeaAndStrumpets it’s down my whole leg. She mentioned 20 minutes but I can’t get it off and I haven’t got someone who can help for a few hours C’est La Vie

Oh dear that sounds tricky. Hope help arrives soon 😟

MyAutumnCrow · 11/05/2026 14:00

I had a terrible reaction to the Ciprofloxacin antibiotic (a side-effect that I wasn’t warned about, despite being in the 60+ old gimmer age group, and with - I know realise - another contraindication); so now as well as all the original gut problems and pain, I’ve got fluoroquinolone-induced tendinopathy in my Achilles tendons. Great. Just fecking great.

I appreciate having MN to while away the time. And DP can WFH this afternoon, as I can barely hobble to the bathroom.

I’m not eating again but have some supplements including collagen.

MyAutumnCrow · 11/05/2026 14:07

I feel like so many of us here are wasting so much of our potential, time, energy and lives just waiting for some effective, joined-up medical treatment.

So frustrating. I should be working, contributing. Not spending so many days languishing, messing up DP’s working potential as well, endlessly waiting for NHS ‘call backs’ that may or may not happen.

ValleyClouds · 11/05/2026 14:52

I just went to pick up a parcel and a man walked around me then in front of me (wheelchair user) to get to the counter first. This is the second time in two weeks this has happened to me in a shop!

ValleyClouds · 11/05/2026 14:55

Amen. I’ve basically been told there’s nothing can be done for one of my disabilities and I suspect it’s because I was disabled anyway beforehand and so the medical world has just shrugged 🤷‍♀️

I clip their ankles when people do this to me and claim I couldn't stop in time as they suddenly were in front of me.

It's always men who do it as well, and the same men always refuse to make eye contact and stare at the space above you.

There was a lovely man working at the cinema yesterday though who let me go inside without a ticket (mum was in the queue) as it was the furthest one away and I'm slow. It meant I got in right as the film started instead of missing the beginning. Usually we get there early but there was road works that gridlocked traffic. They also only charged me for a child's ticket and told my mum not to worry when she pointed it out - since she gets in free as a carer it meant we only paid £9 total.

The Great Sheep Detective was pretty good - though I expected it to be more of a comedy. There was some funny moments but it was far more sentimental than I expected and I cried a few times.

ValleyClouds · 11/05/2026 16:43

@DoAWheelieNo chance of clipping him unfortunately

CoffeeBeansGalore · 11/05/2026 18:23

@TeaAndStrumpets & @TodayIsatrickyone wishing you both a comfortable recovery.
It sounds like you are both doing well.
@ValleyClouds that is really annoying.
At a Village fete thing I was watching a display from my mobiility scooter. A couple walked round me then stood right in front of me, blocking my view. I said "excuse me" but they ignored me. Sine people are just ignorant.

My goodness this is enraging. Small cattle prod? Air horn?

People are such oafs.

The little horn on my chair is a joke! Todays was a man, but the previous offender was a lady on a walker. The post office man told her off. Nothing happened today.

Gosh, this makes me so angry. I have lost a lot of faith in humanity. People are becoming more and more selfish.
