I’ve got Rivals at the moment so that’s this evening sorted at least @TeaAndStrumpets

JewelleryCat · 16/05/2026 18:48

I’m sorry to hear about everything you’ve had going on @MewithME 💐

MewithME · 16/05/2026 18:55

I e ordered takeaway too @martha79

Sweet and sour prawns and fried rice. Comfort food.

Audiobooks here too. Still hooked on Rivers of London. The narrator is amazing.

I haven't tried Rivals on TV. Might give it a go. Will it make me miss sex? 😆 God, I don't know if I'll ever have sex again. Wish I'd had more nice sex when it was possible. 🙈

Grin Possibly

I heard a song recently that went Lonely with a capital H if you know what I mean?

MewithME · 16/05/2026 19:14

@ValleyClouds I think I probably just miss the me that could feel attractive and had such possibilities tbh.

I don't think I have the energy for a capital H !

Jeeeeeeez I'm a barrel of laughs 😆

On I TOTALLY hear that @MewithMEgetting some vicarious thrills here

TeaAndStrumpets · 17/05/2026 13:24

Quiet day here, got up at 6 and browsed online for several hours. Such a bad idea! My eyes are so dry and sore. I need some automatic kill switch to yank me away from the screens. Sunday is worse with reading papers etc.

DH likes any excuse to get his drain rods out, he's been out there with the manhole cover up and went to 9 metres before the drain unblocked. Victorian clay pipes and lots of trees, a bad combination.

He is very pleased but thinks he should buy some more rods for next time! I would rather just hope there won't BE a next time but he likes to be prepared!

Audiobook this afternoon to rest my eyes.

I had a minor brainwave today, well more of a noticing the very obvious solution really.

I find it really hard to put the washing on the line, its too much up and down, and my heart really objects to that, and I tend to keel over a bit. But I like to do things when I am able, its part of the not giving in unless I have to. Kind of a managed belligerence that does my head good, if not my body.

I suddenly realised we have a redundant patio table, so I got DH to move it next to the washing line so i can put the laundry basket on top to save bending.

Ta-Da!! washing out, and in again, without falling over! quite cheered me up.

MewithME · 17/05/2026 15:15

@danglethedingle I have a little stool by the washing machine and tumble dryer. Anything that can't be tumbled goes on a clothes horse. Haven't used a line for a few years now..

That is a very good idea and it just shows that little adjustments can make a big difference. We have an old fashioned tea trolley we use for pushing the laundry basket into the kitchen, and we also use it to transport our shopping deliveries from the front door. Also use it for its intended purpose!

TeaAndStrumpets · 17/05/2026 15:44

Had an accidental nap listening to my audio book, eyes feel better though!

ValleyClouds · 17/05/2026 16:30

Done some more painting - it looks crap but that’s not the point!

martha79 · 17/05/2026 16:41

Good brainwave there @danglethedingle. I was thinking about getting a perching stool for the kitchen - might see if there's something I can repurpose.

Felt awful this morning, had to go back to bed after breakfast with eye mask on and earplugs in. Emerged and had the biggest cry I've had in years, which I feel a bit better for, but also exhausted. My poor dad being the only person I currently feel comfortable enough around to sob for ages 😳🫣 Still, it's been a nice visit and I think he understands better about how I am (I last saw him in November when I wasn't at all great but was pre-diagnosis and still trying to push through everything). And I've realised I do struggle with company for more than a few hours - I've got so used to my quiet house!

danglethedingle · 17/05/2026 17:16

@TeaAndStrumpets thats a genius idea with the trolly, I will look out for one in charity shops when I feel up to a trawl.

MewithME · 17/05/2026 17:44

@martha79 I think my first year after diagnosis was the hardest. It's a lot to process. Flowers

Ours was £20 on eBay but it is rather nice...dark pink anodised aluminium! Very posh.

TodayIsatrickyone · 17/05/2026 17:59

I think sometimes a good cry is cathartic @martha79 it sounds like the visitor was lovely in one way but a bit much in others. Maybe think how you could make it a little easier next time?

You may already do something similar so feel free to ignore this idea but might help someone. One of the things the CFS clinic suggested that I found helpful when first diagnosed when first diagnosed was instead of resting for say 2 hours in the afternoon when exhausted. Try and split that into 4 30 mins of rest. Total rest, so maybe meditation music but no other noise or stimulus. The key is to try and build these rests into your daily routine and timing them before the exhaustion kicks in. Sort of like topping up your battery!

Had my face to face appointment today with a GP over this ongoing pain since the stroke. I had a rough night and was struggling just to get there so I sobbed pretty much as soon as I got through the door. A bit embarrassing but she was absolutely lovely and very understanding. I decided I liked her when she actually used the words ‘you're only 58, you don’t expect this, it’s totally shit and unfair’ I think that pretty much summed up todays mood.

So another juggle of medication to try a muscle relaxant to see if that helps this pain. She’s referring back to stroke clinic to see if they need to scan again and maybe a therapist re the anxiety of it all happening again that likes to kick it at 4 am.

Slept this afternoon which isn’t surprising in the least after all that.

TeaAndStrumpets · 17/05/2026 18:43

@TodayIsatrickyone so pleased you found a nice doctor! Puts your other GP to shame. Hope you get some relief.

A good idea to break up the rests into short stretches. Seems more achievable somehow.

I've been getting adrenaline rushes in the evening the last couple of days. I am wondering if it's my Prednisolone (sp) eye drops. Makes me feel weird but only for about for 20 mins. Apparently this can happen...well if anyone is going to get it it will be me! A sensitive plant. I have been putting my own eyedrops in the for the last few days and can't get the hang of pressing the inner corner of my eyelid so it doesn't run down my throat...all thumbs. Got DH back on duty now, he's a pro!

TodayIsatrickyone · 17/05/2026 19:24

Thanks @TeaAndStrumpets Eye drops are so tricky to do solo! Well done DH 👍

DoAWheelie · 17/05/2026 19:40

Just finished my new book that released last tuesday - it's part 8 of 10. I'm already feeling antsy about the wait for the next one in a year or so.

I'm awful at waiting for things and usually don't start an unfinished book series because of it, but a friend told me it was finished (he was mistaken) and I've been obsessed with the series since starting it last year.

@TeaAndStrumpets I hope eye recovery is going well. My mother's surgery went without issue and she is recovering nicely. She's finding all the eye drops a pain too.

Glad it's all gone well for your Mum. She'll see a difference in colours I'm sure. At one point after the first eye was done I was looking at some flooring and it was light oak in my new eye and golden oak with my old one! Like a yellow filter on everything.

I really hate to start a series and have to wait for the next one!

martha79 · 18/05/2026 10:14

That's really good advice, thank you @TodayIsatrickyone - I've got rests planned in to my work days like that but not so good at scheduling them at the weekend. I'm glad your GP was good.

Back to having the house to myself today, and at work although I still feel pretty rough and am trying to do the bare minimum. Got my first appointment (by phone) with the talking therapies service this afternoon.

TeaAndStrumpets · 18/05/2026 10:21

Morning all!

Had a good sleep after nodding off at 2am. I've been pottering round gently tidying a few things, changing towels etc. Got washed and dressed then 120 pulse so really should have stopped sooner. I have been worried about deconditioning after a few sedentary weeks but I've realised I actually need more rest. Certainly I shouldn't be tidying round my chair, putting away laundry, then getting washed and dressed, all in one go.

It does really bug me when clutter accumulates. We've had to bring in a reclinable garden chair because I can't sit in a normal chair, the room is very crowded. DH also has to sit in an upright chair for his back, so we have 2 large sofas totally unused. I sit and glare at them, useless things.

TodayIsatrickyone · 18/05/2026 10:42

Hope the talking therapies app goes well @martha79 I’m trying to access something similar as I think it might help right now. I seem to keep getting passed back and forth between stroke team and GP though.

I hear you wirh the pottering @TeaAndStrumpets I tried to move more last week as worried about deconditioning but I can’t say it went well. It’s frustrating when the smallest things sends the HR sky high. I’m back to a 5 minute timer and then check the HR and it’s usually my sign to sit. I’m also not comfortable on the sofa right now but the outside recliner is okay! That’s a genius idea but my lounge is small so not sure its an option here. I find if bring my V shaped pillow with me I can prop up for a short spell.

Goal today is a bath to relax these horribly tight muscles and physio coming this afternoon. So a busy day in my world!

Hope work goes smoothly and everyone can have a peaceful day 😊
