How much are you spending on petrol a week?

I realised that I had filled up exactly 7 days apart (sat am to sat am). It cost me £22 (5 year old petrol golf).

I figured out that I did just under a 100 miles of mostly city driving. Work, supermarket, odd trip.

How much are you spending?

I had a quarter of a tank left on Thursday when I filled up - it cost me £42.79.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 02/05/2026 10:01

I only fill up when the light comes one which is approx once a month. Costs around £50 I think, so maybe £12-£15/week?

DilemmaDelilah · 02/05/2026 11:25

Nothing! We have an EV which costs us about £5 a week to charge - £10 per week in winter when we need to have the heater on. But when we did have a petrol car, 18 months ago, it was around £30 per week.

Ilikewinter · 02/05/2026 11:38

I was on quarter of a tank and just put in £45, and it's still not full! However, just like @DilemmaDelilah , DH has an EV and a full tank, circa 330 miles, costs under £5 🙃

bugalugs45 · 02/05/2026 11:41

You paid £22 for a full tank? 100 miles ? I had a golf that would now be about 12 years old and sure the tank wasn’t that small! I wonder if I’m misunderstanding and your tank isn’t empty to start with , if not how bizarre .
but in answer to your question , I fill up roughly every 3 weeks , and costs me around £85 ( Kia sportage ) . Get about 400 miles from full tank .

Purplewarrior · 02/05/2026 11:49

About £5 a week. I hardly use it really as try to walk or use public transport whenever possible.

SlashBeef · 02/05/2026 11:50

I fill it up every payday and it gets down to about a quarter of a tank by the next payday. Costs about £60.

intrepidpanda · 02/05/2026 11:53

I drive 250 miles a week. At current prices around £50 a week.

TheChosenTwo · 02/05/2026 11:58

Currently I reckon about £60 a week. I fill up every 10 days or so from empty and it costs £80 (price obviously varies from one week to the next and moreso at the moment!)
my maths doesn’t actually look quite right, hang on! oh, no I think it’s about right.
i drive 70 miles a week for work but it’s a windy stop start journey which isn’t very fuel efficient. I then probably do an additional 40 miles over the week, sometimes more sometimes less. Today it will be a lot more than 40 miles in one day.

EmbarrassmentLovesCompany · 02/05/2026 11:59

I fill up each Sunday when I do the food shop.
Upto just over £40 a week now.

notacooldad · 02/05/2026 11:59

About £60 pw

DeposedPresident · 02/05/2026 12:01

Small car. I drive 200 miles a week. Roughly £45 pounds. It used to be around £38.

DeposedPresident · 02/05/2026 12:03

In comparison, if I took the bus, thanks to the numbers of buses I would use (6) and the £3.00 a trip fare brought in by Labour then I would be spending £90 a week on the bus.

How much money do you spend on public transport, out of curiosity?

JustAboutMuddlingThrough · 02/05/2026 12:26

£20 tues Wednesday and Friday. I probably average about 60 miles a day just travelling to my first 2 calls and back plus whatever calls I have afterwards too

I commute to London a couple of times a month by train which costs about £70 but I would never drive into central London. Aside from that, maybe another £5 a week. I try to walk everywhere. I have a huge out of town shopping centre with M&S, Next, Tesco etc less than a mile from my house. I work from home. Friends are local…

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 02/05/2026 13:22

I put £35 in usually twice a month and get 300 miles out of a full tank usually

Oilofeveningprimrose · 02/05/2026 13:23

Approx £110 to fill every 6 days or so

66babe · 02/05/2026 13:24

Hybrid Puma .. filling the tank used to cost me £60
Filled up in the week it was £85
That will last me approx 2 weeks - work x 5 days - gym x 4 days and seeing friends .

EnthusiasticDecluttering · 02/05/2026 13:29

About £45 once a week (full refill), I do about 380 miles a week.

DanceMumTaxi · 02/05/2026 13:35

Not completely sure, but think it’s probably about £60-70 a week. I have a bit of a drive to work though.

mondaytosunday · 02/05/2026 13:44

If not visiting my son on the iow then I could go a month between filling my car as I only use it two or three times a week to drive locally. It’s about £55 to fill it.

Crucible · 02/05/2026 13:47

Just put in just over half a tank for £32, then filled up two petrol cans totalling 20 litres to store at home.
Before anyone jumps on me for hoarding, I am a carer and look after folks in two different locations and I cannot run out of petrol. Thanks Trump you're an arsehole.

34feeling54 · 02/05/2026 13:48

Nothing because I have an EV and solar panels 🤣

NB 20 litres cost £30.58. Sainsbury's south London area.
