School has asked students to bring in a single flower - how the hell do I pack it so it's not dead by the time it's needed?

As the title -

School has asked all pupils bring in a single flower next week for an event.
No tin foil or cellophane allowed.

How do I package this so that it's not a dishevelled dying mess by the time it is needed during the day?

I am really not green fingered!

Put it in the child's hair?

Send a plastic one in?

Lego one.

They carry it in their hands. Pick a long stem like daffodil etc.

Damp kitchen towel around the stem and a food bag?

Jam jar, tupperware, small jewellery box, anything you’re about to chuck in recycling like the plastic packs ham comes in. Toilet roll tube.

What a weird thing for the school to request.
You generally can't buy single flowers and you shouldn't pick wild ones or ones in public parks.
So where are you meant to get one from?
Not everyone has a garden.
(I'd make a paper one...)

A dried one? A pressed one?

Put it in a Tupperware

I was thinking maybe a lot of wet towels and wrapped in twine? And something long stemmed like a lily or daffodil or similar.
Would that work?

Then I guess I'll be getting a big bunch of flowers for the house so I can pick one for DC to bring in! I'm not complaining about that - it's been a while since we had a nice bouquet!

I remember seeing on the news a couple of years ago that the ‘rules’ on picking wildflowers had been updated as it does no harm and it makes for a miserable world if a child can’t pick a flower.

It’s a strange request though. I would just get the child to hold it.

I’d go with the food bag so long as it won’t get squashed in their bag, or the Tupperware with wet kitchen towel wrapped around the bottom.

What’s it for?

Honestly I'd chuck a forget me not from the garden into their bag and be done with it.

Not a lilly , they will get pollen stains on their uniform !

Just pick a daisy or a dandelion on the way to school

Matchbox or empty yoghurt box etc

Out of nosiness, why has the school asked for this? It sounds like a lot of faff.

Wtf for?!? Who could be arsed, pick a flower from your garden give it to your kid voila!

One of those plastic pots you get drinkable friendly bacteria yogurts on would be perfect as a mini vase

Pringles tube?

Pinch it out someone's garden on the way to school? It will be fresh that way 😂

What are they for? I feel like I'd moan about that, but maybe it's for something very special.

Dandelion picked on the way there

A long stem is going to break, or the flower head will get knocked off the end.

Find something short, wrap the cut stem in a load of wet kitchen paper, and put the whole thing in a margarine tub.

Pick it on the way in to school (obviously I mean in a legally acceptable way, like a daisy from the park on the way in, not stolen from a garden by the school, before anyone complains).
