I am watching an episode of One Foot in the Grave, and the Meldrews have the same duvet cover we do. Not only that, but ours in on our bed right now, and I've just checked - the episode was first broadcast in 1993.

Blimey, I knew some of our bedding was old, but I didn't realise it was that old.😂

Photo or it didn't happen!

I have a gorgeous duvet cover from the year I moved into this house, 1988. It is still in use and the pattern is timeless (well I would say that wouldn't I!). I've no idea where I got it, but the quality is just amazing. Nothing I've bought since comes near it.

It is. I bought it from BHS I think. We've not used that duvet cover for some time, it was in a drawer in the spare room and I only rediscovered it the other day.

If you want to know what it looks like, the episode is called 'warm champagne' and their bed is in several scenes. No photos of it in situ in my bedroom I'm afraid, not until after we've decorated, the place is a slum at the moment. 😂

I have the same kitchen units as Terry and June 1979-87!

I feel I should point out that Richard Wilson was 53 when that series started.

Marmite27 · 24/04/2026 20:19

I had some pjs from BHS that Dorothy wore in an episode of Men Behaving Badly.

Silverbirchleaf · 24/04/2026 20:22

i have a duvet set from BHS purchased around 2000. It was my ‘smart duvet set’ for when guests stay. I remember buying it.

I’m always surprised when I look at old photos and realise how old some of my clothes are.

FettchYeSandbagges · 24/04/2026 20:26

We took dc to the Science Museum once, and there's a section with old vintage electrical goods, in the basement I think, and they had an iron on display that was identical to my mum's one.

They made things to last in those days.😁

I never liked BHS clothes because they weren't great quality but their duvet covers were.

Definitely. We used to buy stuff from BHS in the 80's & 90's as they were just as good quality as M&S - but not quite so expensive.

I saw Standing At The Sky's Edge in the theatre a few years ago and in the 1960s part they had my dinner plates. (Rose pattern, Pyrex.)

Hallamule · 24/04/2026 20:38

My oldest duvet cover dates from 1990. I dont even like it any more but the bloody thing just won't wear out!

I was once wearing the same top as Lisa Dingle in Emmerdale. Not my finest style moment.

MelancholiaOrRaving · 24/04/2026 20:49

I love this thread 😄. Oh how I miss BHS homeware. I shopped there all the time. Infact when my daughter was primary age (in the 90s), she was asked, by friends of the inlaws, where she lived. She thought for a minute and answered "British Home Stores". That's a family joke now.

Weirdly I watched OFITG earlier and I haven't watched it for 20 odd years!

I bought a top from Evans and wore it until someone saw Nellie Dingle wearing the same one
