What little acts of rebellion or activism do you do?

I’m not talking about going on marches, but minor things, that you know about.

Mine is I won’t play Michael Jackson songs, after all the alleged behaviour, which certainly wouldn’t be accepted by today’s standards.

The second is I won’t buy McCain products, after they put out an advert for Smileys, which referred to ‘knocker’s’ in them. I thought that language had died out in the seventies.

I also use "human made" instead of "man made" as a term. I am increasingly bored of man being the default term for human.

I say "artifical" or "synthetic"

Buses near us have a 'safe space' sticker, as do a couple of cafes.

I always want to ask the driver (but I don't because it's fuck all to do with them) 'as opposed to what? Are you saying it's dangerous out there, but not in here? What precisely is the danger? And what are you doing that makes it safe in here but not out there? '

There are laws, in effect both on the bus and outside it, that prevent harassment, violence, sexual harassment, racial hatred, etc. The bus doesn't have extra special rules (and if it did, they would likely be illegal by infringing other people's legal rights).

Its nonsense virtue signalling that wouldn't survive a logical conversation.

Absolutely spot on. So whilst I daresay this establishment couldn't care less that I take my custom elsewhere, it's my little rebellion.

What has Mark Ruffalo done? He's my secret crush, I don't think I can bear it if he's not one of the good guys

Depends on your definition of a good guy. He’s one of the keffiyeh+red-hand-pin-wearing charmers who repeat lies about Israel but never criticise Hamas. He also kept strangely quiet about the IRGC’s slaughter of its own people, but is now very critical of the US’s actions in Iran. Some say good guy, I say shameless antisemitic hypocrite

AnnaQuayRules · 20/04/2026 19:49

Thanks @Squidgoals I'll dig into him a bit more

If I'm talking about clothes I generally just say plastic clothes for all the stuff which is petroleum based.

NetZeroZealot · 20/04/2026 19:59

If I’m in a public loo with a Dyson hand drier I refuse to use it. I take paper towels ( or just shake & wipe on
my jeans) instead.

old Landrovers are money pits. You need to be rich to have one.

i do like the landrover defender especially the lara croft version from the films but yes to fully customise one your looking at 100k plus

I'd like an old defender soft top. They aren't outrageous to buy but need deep pockets to keep them running.

Not sure if this fits the question but I go through the recycling bin for the flats where my mum lives and take out all the things whispy plastic, build up a pile and put it in the non- recycling bins. These are those wide , Wheely bins, not the standard size for a single house. Felt scared in case someone came in and saw me doing it for the first few times but now I don't care..Just can't stop it.

ThisOliveKoala · 20/04/2026 20:22

I now do shopping in person not online grocery so I make sure I don’t buy any made in Israel products and make sure to actively support the few Palestinian products that are verifiably from there, eg I found some amazing dates that are from Palestine and benefit the region.

I also don’t buy any coca-cola products and I really miss Orange Fanta, but needs must.

I figure I pay enough council tax to let them do the sorting. I don't deliberately put the wrong stuff in recycling but I certainly wouldn't sort other people's

Weirdconditionaltense · 20/04/2026 20:29

@godmumits may not be such an issue for single householder bins if you're only putting a tiny bit in but they don't sort it. They make an assessment of the degree of contamination with plastic and when they find a certain proportion it means the entire quantity goes to landfill.

Very mild rebellion I stick my tongue out at my DH, flick the V sign behind his back when he's droning on nagging about something I haven't done.

Makes me feel better 😀

Hopefully he does the same when you're droning on nagging too!
