What little acts of rebellion or activism do you do?

I’m not talking about going on marches, but minor things, that you know about.

Mine is I won’t play Michael Jackson songs, after all the alleged behaviour, which certainly wouldn’t be accepted by today’s standards.

The second is I won’t buy McCain products, after they put out an advert for Smileys, which referred to ‘knocker’s’ in them. I thought that language had died out in the seventies.

I cancelled my ChatGPT and Claude subscriptions and moved to Mistral's Le Chat (a French company), losing 18 months of very valuable discussion threads in the process. I am simply not having conversations about my life or my business with AI tools based in what is turning into a dictatorship led by a total wassock. I have found that I like Le Chat better for multiple reasons - it definitely feels more European in approach and it looks worldwide for sources of information. As much as I liked Claude in particular for my work, I haven't regretted the move.

It should be possible to move your chats between models. I have certainly done that to transition from ChatGPT to Claude.

Anyone here boycotting / rebelling in a minor way against Elon Musk will be bitterly disappointed with the news that Musk's Tesla is set to start supplying UK homes with electricity. Ofgem has given Tesla the green light to provide electricity for some households. Yep. Grim. At least we have a choice of supplier. I've a feeling they'll come in cheaper tho. Lets see.

I deliberately scratch the cars that park on the pavements leaving me no choice but to take my buggy and kids out into the road.
If I'm not in a rush I knock on doors and ask them to move the car.

That is not a small act of rebellion @Hadenough32 - that is criminal damage and vandalism.

justasking111 · 20/04/2026 17:28

Very mild rebellion I stick my tongue out at my DH, flick the V sign behind his back when he's droning on nagging about something I haven't done.

Makes me feel better 😀

Charlize43 · 20/04/2026 17:28

When Liz Truss wrote her memoir, Ten Years To Save The West, I kept moving it from the biography section to the crime section in the Waterstones, Piccadilly.

This was a daily occurrence, I might add.

Most of these are just part of a normal, thoughtful eco conscious lifestyle though.
Not acts of rebellion.

  • use Ecover washing up liquid, surface cleaner and laundry powder
This isn't. They are owned by Johnson and Johnson who animal test etc etc.

They put a botanical in a formulation to add 'natural' to the label. Its not an eco brand at all, just big brand marketing

AuxArmesCitoyens · 20/04/2026 17:31

I nipped out late at night and drew a Hitler moustache on Marine Le Pen's posters at the last election. No regrets, will do it again next year on Bardella

There is a shop in Rye that sells ‘trendy edgy arty’ gifts and household stuff. They sell doormats stacked outside with ‘witty’ misogynistic jokes on them about which women are un/welcome

Every time I go past I turn the top couple upside down

I love this.

This is really not funny. This is a matter of safety - if the family were on the golf course that is against the rules of play and public right of way and exceptionally dangerous. Whoever is playing has priority.
If one of them was hit by a golf ball they could be seriously injured.

The rules of golf state shouting if a ball is mishit to warn other golfers let alone random members of the public. This is also part of a golfers insurance too.

It was not rude at all. It was correct and totally relevant.

It is a Wildlife Trust woods that the golf course happens to be on. It is not solely a golf course, it is covered in public paths so the public have right of way.

Most people cannot see the golfers due to the shape of the land. They were not shouting ‘four’ to warn them politely they were aggressively telling them to hurry up because a child was taking their time. People that do not play golf do not know or care for the rules of golf. There is not
one sign telling people golfers have right of way. Why is their shitty game of golf more
important than that families stroll? It isn’t.

most of the golfers are very polite and respectful. They were being rude. You sound like an entitled rude bore yourself, I can’t wait to chuck your balls in the thorniest bush x

Why don't you want any screening?

I have aged out of all but bowel screening and have never been rung to give me an appointment or to chase me to make one. Maybe you have a medical condition that requires regular monitoring? When I was being offered screening, I just used to get an invitation letter and destroy it if I didn't want to go.

No you just make more work for existing staff - well played. They aren’t going to think ‘ooh people are leaving shit by the self checkouts, let’s get more staff in’.

This is what makes me laugh about some of the small ‘acts of rebellion’ - the people you have an issue with don’t know and don’t care that you do it.

Of course there will be an impact if increasing numbers of people ditch goods at the self checkout. Companies do understand customer behaviour and profit margins.

Jumping in - I really love Green Sheets for detergent and softener should you be wanting to try a good eco brand. The company were also created from school children that wanted to make a new brand which is pretty neat too!

It was founded as an eco brand and was later taken over/bought out. I understand the objections to Johnson and Johnson but has the formulation of the Ecover products actually changed?

I see. I don't know Sheila Bloom. You do know that wealthier people buy more expensive things. In the same way a poorer person will drive a cheaper car, a wealthy person will drive a more expensive car, because they can. Not to try and impress randoms, not to make it their personality..

It's the boy racers in stupidly (usually cheaper by the way) noisy cars who Are looking for attention, I ignore.

I know wealthy people who buy old bangers cos they like a bargain.

nodramamama · 20/04/2026 17:43

Fascinating how many people 'definitely know' Michael Jackson definitely did 'x' or 'y' and so boycott him. The entire US legal system could have used your exclusive expertise years ago. So I boycott this kind of person .

Aside from them I try my best not to buy Nestle, to challenge mysogyny, not invest in companies like BAE, American Tobacco, etc.

Ecover lost their Vegan Society accreditation years ago because of their testing. I don't know what made them think it was acceptable! They were involved in lengthy discussions with the VS before they conceded defeat.

I use their dishwasher tablets because you don't need salt where I live and they seem to be the only brand who have a salt free option. Happy to hear of any other salt free brands with a better reputation and ethos (Smol are not the answer).

Ecover are just a greenwashing brand.

Because I don’t!

That's not really a reason though is it. You don't want to know if you have cancer? Wouldn't it be better to know sooner rather than later?

Hadenough32 · 20/04/2026 17:39

I really don't know why you are finding this so funny. you are choosing to damage somebody else's property and cost them a serious amount of money. And you are happy to shout about it and put in writing on a public forum. extraordinary.

Michael Jackson was innocent.

I teach my boys to be manly.

WTF? He most certainly wasn’t innocent.
