Suggestions for a child-free two-night city break

Looking for a 2 night break with husband (child free!) in Europe (or England possibly).
Flights max 2.5 hours from London ideally less.
We like wandering around cities sight seeing, stopping off at nice pubs or wine bars and relaxed dinners.
Any suggestions? Have done Prague (loved), Rome and Budapest before.

To avoid flights, what about Lille, Paris, Rotterdam on the train?

mindutopia · 18/04/2026 19:28

When Dh and I did this, we went to Lisbon. Amazing food and quite different to Spain, more than I was expecting.

I'm off to Nice in September - hoping for city vibe but on the beach with lots of nice places to eat and drink!

Malaga is great for a city break, easy transit, lovely hotels, nice museums…great food! Palma is fantastic too.

Palma, or Berlin. Both amazing cities in very different ways

Madrid is great for wandering, wine and tapas bars, good food plus sights to see. I lived there for a year in my 20s and have been back many times since with friends and with husband!

On the smaller side (suitable for two nights) my partner and I enjoyed Carcassonne in France - it's more for a slower paced trip away!

I went there for my honeymoon 30 years ago.

Prague. Amazing. Cheap. History. Great food. Lots to do. Shopping. Massages. We went in feb no kids absolutely had the time of our lives. Barcelona also one of our faves but Prague topped every city trip we’ve ever had.

Malaga- gorgeous old city, beach, amazing food and wine. Airport only 10 mins from the city so you maximise your time there. I loved it!

Maraudingmarauders · 19/04/2026 01:24

Dijon! Massively underrated and really lovely.

MikeRafone · 19/04/2026 06:21

If you want uk

Warwick, castle, good restaurants, Leamington for some individual shops & coffee, Stratford upon Avon, a few NT places nearby

central so easy to get to from most areas, train stations at leamington, Warwick, Kenilworth and Stratford so can easily be done by public transport
