Good Morning Mumsnet! What's Everyone Up To Today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my conservatory spot. Girl cat's ekekek-ing at a wood pigeon in the garden, & I think boy's gone back to bed.

The washer's on for school and work stuff - that'll go on the line since the weather's nice, and last night's tea pots are soaking already.

I have a million and one things I want to do today so we'll see how far I get! I have peg dolls to finish, garden waste to put in the bin, filler to sand, a leavers hoodie to order for dd2, a corner crack to fill, a nip to Lidl for a top up (and to get dd2 out of the house for a walk), and I want to paint at least the short wall in the conservatory. Probably too much for one day but we'll see 🤔.

Dd2 will spend most of the day revising - her Spanish speaking exam is in ten days!! She didn't want to go anywhere or do anything so I'll drag her down every now and again so she definitely has breaks!

Dd1's out and about in London already! She went to a gig in Oxford last night, then straight to queue for Record Store Day exclusive vinyls, and is now waiting for the artists booked to play at the record store. She'll be knackered later 💤.

Later on, we'll make either pizzas or burgers for tea then I'll chill with my book or crochet before an early ish night, so I can carry on tomorrow.

What about all of you? 🙂

Morning all!

I'm getting my hair highlighted today. Then meet DH afterwards and go to a greasy spoon and a big walk by the river.

This afternoon we are going to sort out our balcony and wash our filthy windows.

Elmo230885 · 18/04/2026 08:59

Kids are currently watching strange marble run videos (quietly) whilst I have a lovely coffee from my new machine.
I have two Vinted parcels to post off.
We have a 4 year olds birthday party later, looking forward to it as the kids (6 & 8) are fed up of each other as they have been on Easter break for the last 2 weeks; they both have friends from their class at the house party.
DH has gone to work, last minute as his boss forgot to tell him he was booked on a course.
I'm taking it easy as I played football last night, my 40 year old body thought it could get to the ball before the 23 year old! (Spoiler, it could not!)

Elmo230885 · 18/04/2026 09:02

@SliceofTosst I haven't been to a greasy spoon for ages! Sometimes fried egg, chips and beans is the tonic for my soul! Enjoy!

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 18/04/2026 09:04

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone - early on here for a change! Sadly just had a run in with DD17. Feels worse because we had a lovely day together yesterday. I know that she gets overwhelmed & stressed (neurodivergent) but it’s unfair to take that out on me then also twist things around when I try to explain how she can make me feel 😢
Awake with DH very early & he brought me a cuppa before leaving for work. Bought posh teabags from M & S yesterday. Working this aft so catching up with a few jobs this morning, including cleaning the kitchen surfaces & hanging out a load of washing. A few bits need doing separately at 30 degrees. Was going to go to a farmers market but I spent a lot yesterday. One of the bunnies is poorly & staying indoors so I’ll keep an eye on her. The antibiotics are gradually kicking in. Easy tea of an Iceland stirfry from frozen bag meal for me & probably an egg/cheese/bacon “ banjo” for DH. DD has her friend staying over (ex GF but they’re going to get back together) & they want meal deals plus snacks. This evening, DH & I will just chill & watch BGT then maybe a film. Have a good Saturday folks!

Continuing the sorting and clearance of my mums house in preparation for probate sale once granted.

JacknDiane · 18/04/2026 09:11

Hi @lucysmamand all Saturday people!
Im still in bed, just had my tea and toast, now sadly I have to get up and get moving as I start work soon. The shop will be busy today, hope I dong get too many moany, grumpy customers...

Peridot1 · 18/04/2026 09:21

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

Ive managed to get on here quite early for me.

Been up since 7. Have had tea and did my puzzles, more tea with toast and then another tea! About to hang up some washing, empty the dishwasher and get ready to go out for my walk.

DH has a dentist appointment at lunchtime and I’ll probably take him as he’s terrified. Had an emergency appointment yesterday as has cracked a tooth. It needs to come out. Today’s appointment is a consultation with the guy who will extract it. He’s so terrified of dentists he hasn’t been in over 25 years. I suspect once they deal with this issue they will find a lot more! Last year we spent a fortune on my teeth at the same dentist. This year looks like DH’s turn!

No other major plans except I want to carry on with our new gravel garden at the side of the house. Two beds still to prep and then a lot of planting to do.

No idea what’s for dinner tonight. Hoping for a glass of wine in the garden at some stage.

Tangerinesattack · 18/04/2026 09:29

Morning all.

We've just finished packing ready to head home after a delightful child free break in Turkey. We don't get picked up until 6pm so after we drop the cases down to reception we'll be enjoying the hotel facilities and sunshine for a bit before getting organised to go. Unusually for us, we've done almost nothing but lay about and eat and drink - it was much needed and I feel very restored and excited about getting home. Hopefully the journey back won't undo all the relaxation!

Have a lovely day everyone.

OchreSwan · 18/04/2026 09:34

Good morning all. A later start for me today as we got back quite late last night from our holiday. We were only away for 5 days, so really only a mini-break, but it was very active so looking forward to a very quiet day today!

Will get some washing on shortly and do a small amount of tidying up but we did a big clean before we left so not much to do really. We’ll nip to Waitrose later to stock up for the week, but both feeling that we need to be really disciplined after indulging somewhat while we were away, so planning on lots of fruit and veg, and very little in the way of treats!

Planning on reading some of my book and getting on with some knitting later, and probably quite an early night.

Whiskyfromsmallglasses · 18/04/2026 09:42

Hi had a lie in till 8am which is rare with a kitten. Fed him, done the dishes, taking out some recycling and now just having breakfast. I've been off for two weeks and return to work on Monday. Had something planned every single day so today I'm planning on a jammie day, maybe a soak in the bath, read my book, watch some TV.

Need to hoover cause the kitten has made a mess with his litter but other than that that's all the housework I plan on doing

Simonjt · 18/04/2026 09:51

Morning, I’ve been away with work all week and I finally fly home today, there were issues with Arlanda airport yesterday so our travel was changed and we’re now getting a train on the final leg rather than flying. The train was going to take just over 24 hours and involve six changes (although I liked that one was somewhere called Middlefart). So instead I’ve got the eurostar from Amsterdam and then I’m flying from London so I can be home for bedtime tonight. Its also significantly cheaper so I’m not entirely sure why work went with the train all the way home as the chosen option. There was also zero need for them to cancel our connecting flight, but the cancellation was so late the flight was still technically full so we couldn’t buy seats on it.

We left Canada about 13 hours ago I think, I’ve had terrible sleep all week so I’m really tired. I’m going to do absolutely nothing once I’ve had a shower at home.

Have a good saturday!

thebeautifulsky · 18/04/2026 09:58

Morning @lucysmam and all. I've just got back from my daily walk up and down the hills. The smell of wild garlic is overwhelming today! The sun is shining and the bluebells are in full bloom and look wonderful. Our hawthorn hedge is showing off too.

Not much planned today. DH is washing the car. I'm fancying a spot of baking - a tray bake of some kind so will make a coffee and browse recipes online. Family are coming over tomorrow so will need to give them something to eat.

A neighbour in the Village has invited me over to have a work out in her home gym - we'll see! May go for another walk instead if the sun keeps shining. Simple pleasures!

Have a good day all.

FamingolosForDays · 18/04/2026 10:00

Morning all!
Woke up at 0630 despite it being a Saturday and we all had a late night. My best friend and his DCs came over for dinner and games. Lots of laughs but boy I am tired.
Watching a film with DS, DD is somewhere underneath her duvet in her new bed bless her.
DS has discovered his flying Scotsman kit and voluntarily started to put it together (he struggles with fine motor skills and has eschewed any form of lego/building up until about 6 months ago) which is absolutely wonderful to see so I am quietly observing with a cuppa!
Got to go out today for some bits and one of ex-H birthday presents. DC will spend his birthday with him next week. Will spend this afternoon doing washing/gardening as the garden fairy DM dropped off loads of plants that need putting in places. I've a flower bed that needs some attention too.

Pizza in front of BGT later, probably a roast tomorrow but I have no motivation whatsoever! Really need to do some housework so will try and tackle that before getting everyone ready for school and work. Knackered even thinking about it. Might have a coffee to get going 🤣

Tiddlywinks63 · 18/04/2026 10:02

Good morning @lucysmam and crew, I am sitting in my craft room having a bit of a tidy up and sorting. I’m trying to keep myself occupied as I wait to hear what treatment I’m getting for lung cancer. Unfortunately it’s inoperable and incurable which is shit 😬😵‍💫🤷🏼‍♀️
I have far too much crafting stuff, I really don’t know what to do with it all.
Anyway, the sun was shining earlier, it’s clouding over now and I can hear the birds in the woods behind us.
Dh has walked tiddler, he’ll take bigger dog out soon.
There’s leftover sweet and sour chicken that I made yesterday for dinner, I’ll probably do some jacket potatoes with it.
I’m hoping to sit in my Shed later, I’ll take my embroidery and a cup of tea with me.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend x

On train 🚂 with my Greggs coffee ☕️ and Pain au chocolat… meeting friend to go to Ideal Home exhibition at Olympia

FamingolosForDays · 18/04/2026 10:04

@Tiddlywinks63 I'm really sorry. Hoping you won't have to wait for long for news x

Peridot1 · 18/04/2026 10:09

So sorry to hear that @Tiddlywinks63. That’s a very hard thing to get your head around. I hope you hear about your treatment soon. Sending you lots of healing and positive thoughts.

Flyingkitez · 18/04/2026 10:10

Morning all, I have been up with little dog and a vets appointment since early this morning. I felt I had been robbed for a quick check up and a nice price! I have work to do at home but it’s lovely outside and I’m debating a break for town or dog walk later. Not sure what is for dinner I need some inspiration! Have a good Saturday all!

DilemmaDelilah · 18/04/2026 10:15

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. Goodness... That sounds like an action-packed day!

@MissCooCooMcgoo I remember what it was like sorting out my own mother's house after she died. I'm sorry you are having to do that. I was lucky, she was incredibly organised and I had the help and support of my two sisters, but the day to day stuff all fell to me and it was something I definitely could have done without at the time.

Today I have just had my shower and I'm about to clean all 3 bathrooms. Then I will finish preparing anything messy in the kitchen, before cleaning that. Mr Dilemma has already done any hand-washing-up, put anything else in the dishwasher and put away anything that was drying. I can hear him hoovering at the moment. Yesterday we cleaned and tidied the conservatory/dining room and laid the table, and tidied up in the living room etc., all in preparation for the visit of our granddaughter and her father (the widow of Mr Dilemma's daughter) with his new partner and her 2 children this evening. They are popping in for pizza on their way back home from holiday, and will have a very long journey ahead of them.

We are going to the theatre this afternoon to see something that promises to be very funny, put on by a 3 person theatre group. We go to everything they do and have never been disappointed. It will be a bit of a rush to get back and sorted before they arrive, hence getting as much as we can done in advance.

I am very hungry this morning. I woke early and had a slimfast shake for breakfast and I will only have a salad for lunch, since I will be having pizza this evening and I started a strict diet on Wednesday. It seems to be working though... a few pounds lost but no inches - as I expected. I am being careful and sticking to a sensible calorie allowance - nothing too drastic - but when you are very overweight the first bit of weight loss can be considerable. You just have to keep it going! I want to be able to fit into some nice clothes by the time we go on holiday in the summer - and long term for my health, and my niece's wedding next year. She is very very slender - naturally - and she is marrying a lovely man from a wealthy family and has lots of friends for whom appearances matter, so I don't want to let the side down.

DilemmaDelilah · 18/04/2026 10:18

@Tiddlywinks63 you posted as I was writing. I am so sorry about your news. What a bummer!

All best thoughts and wishes for you.

Good morning lucysmam and others. I've been up for a while and had 2 coffees, a cuppa and a slice of toast. I'm not having a great day, health wise, but nothing like you are going through tiddlywinks
Today will be about resting and doing a little housework. Enjoy your day all.

gingercat02 · 18/04/2026 10:36

Morning all. Last weekend of the holidays, football is back from the international break, so stuff to do.
DS is mega stressed as A levels start in 3 weeks, he's actually looking forward to going back to school for some focus.
While they are at the match I'm going to tackle the soot on the chimney breast, which scares me greatly.
Fajitas for tea as is traditional post home match.
Few wines and a bit of tv for me and DH. Ds will likely be out.
